Thundercloud Subs

This is my favorite location, the staff is always super friendly and I love how bright the seating area is.
Everything is good here — seriously just randomly pick something on the menu and you’ll love it. The prices are great, very affordable and you get a good amount of food.

How? How do you get a sub order wrong? This is what you do… this is what you get paid for… this is what I paid for…. One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone can’t get a simple order correct. I ordered a gluten free veggie sub with turkey and no onions. What did I receive? Gluten free veggie sub NO turkey and WITH onions. I promise this isn’t that hard. I’ve seen a few reviews below that said the same thing about this location getting orders wrong — too bad I didn’t see them before going here. Boo on you. I won’t return because I can’t stand being hangry and I turn into the friggin she-​hulk when this happens. I will also not disgrace my stomach by eating a sub with no gobble gobble on it. I promise, I notice and recognize places/​people that make sandwiches with love… just like grandmas always make sammies with luhhh. You, however, did not do this. Ugh, the sadness and rage I feel.

I wanted to take a picture of my California Sub, but it’s so good I accidentally ate the entire thing before I was able to get my phone out for the review. I LOVE Thundercloud Subs. Highly recommend it.

We never ate at thunder cloud, but then they had their $ 1 anniversary special. Been going back ever since. Smart marketing on their part.
Love supporting a local business with nice, fun staff. And Bc I have young kids, it’s also SO nice that this location has a drive thru. One of our favorite summer activities is to grab some sandwiches on the way to Ramsey park where we picnic, play and sometimes swim. Great, cheap fun.

This is my go to Thundercloud, best service in town! I will go out of my way to visit this location. I love the convince of the drive through and even with my picky order they ALWAYS get it right, which I truly appreciate seeing as great service isn’t always easy to come by. I don’t have words kind enough for this staff, every time I visit they go above and beyond and I’m only sorry that I don’t know names for shout outs!

I am from VA and was greatly disappointed. I love a good fresh sub, but this sub was below average. Minimal meat, pay extra for ordinary toppings such as pickles, fairly slow line. Jersey Mikes or Jimmy Johns are WAY much better. I’d rather eat Subway and that’s just awful…

This location was once average now it’s time to retire this location perhaps Thundercloud Subs period. The last couple of times I’ve eaten here the sandwiches has been very underwhelming. The store isn’t the cleanest either. It looks like it needs to mopped and sanitized. The sandwich was sub par as well the meats tasted as if the quality went down. The service is average. I won’t be returning here or Thundercloud Su’s, because there’s so many better sandwich jobs to settle for subpar quality

Having gone through the drive thru at this location over 20 times, they have NEVER EVER gotten my sandwich right. NOT ONCE.
I usually do the drive thru if I’m in a hurry or if there is no parking. I know I should always park and go in but then what’s the point of the drivethru? I’ve even reconfirmed my order at the window, but alas the order is always wrong.
Other than that, the staff is usually friendly and they get my order correct if I park and go in.

Normally I love thundercloud subs and always have a good experience… However this time I used the drive thru and ordered a veggie sandwich and added tuna. I do this all the time. The girl made noises and was so rude. I tried to keep things light so when I got to the window I said” I know it’s different it’s just really good” she rolled her eyes at me and said yeah it’s just a pain bc of how me make it without cross contaminating things. This is not my problem! I even left a tip! I will not be returning!

The menu might list what should be delicious sandwiches, but the unhygienic practices of the staff made me a one-​time customer. The seating area was dirty, the person who made my sandwich didn’t wash his hands, didn’t put on gloves, and he had a scab on one of his fingers. Gross!

I love everything that is Thundercloud, from the countless, affordable sandwiches that I’ve eaten over the years to the endless Austin musicians/​artists/​bartenders to whom it provides a day job. Before today, Thundercloud would have gotten a solid three stars from me in the lifetime achievement category: its sandwiches have always been proficient (but not magnificent), and its service has always been friendly-​ish.
But today is the end. After consuming a Turkey sub, I’ve been violently ill for six hours. Today’s camp out on the bathroom floor is a silver bullet. But we’ll always have undergrad, Thundercloud.

I love Thundercloud Subs – their sandwich makers are always generous and easy going – and they make an awesome meal. I have a bunch of favs, but the Veggie is loaded with everything but the meat protein. Their guacamole has great flavor, the vegetables are always fresh cut – and the pepper assortment offers you plenty of heat. It’s a good sized sandwich and you’ll never leave wishing you had just that extra bite. Their portions are great, the service is outstanding and the food is fresh and flavorful. And it doesn’t take a bite out of your wallet.
Enjoy the sub the way it was meant to be in Austin.

Me encanta la nube tormentosa Subs — sus sandwicheras son siempre generoso y sencillo — y hacen una comida fantástica. Tengo un montón de favoritos, pero el vegetariano se carga con todo, pero la proteína de la carne. El guacamole tiene un gran sabor, las verduras son siempre frescas cortadas — y el surtido de pimienta le ofrece un montón de calor. Es un buen sandwich de tamaño y nunca dejará deseando tener picadura sólo ese extra. Las raciones son grandes, el servicio es excepcional y la comida es fresca y sabrosa. Y no hace falta ser un bocado de su cartera.

Okay, the shop is a little old and dirty, they don’t wear gloves while preparing your food, and the seating is fairly uncomfortable. But hey, it’s a sandwich shop and, after all, you are in hippie land. I was actually quite surprised at the quality. The staff was friendly, the food was good.
If you’re a germaphobe, this probably isn’t your place. But if you drank out of a hose as a kid, played with toys that had sharp edges and when you scuffed your knee you rubbed dirt in it to make it better, then you won’t feel out of place here.

This is an excellent Austin original establishment. If you don’t like it, don’t eat there then. Also, you really have no right to judge foodservice people unless you yourself have worked in food service. Please don’t hate.

Damn you whiners! Me and the kids eat here every couple of weeks at least. We LOVE the chicken salad. Love the vibe too. Got into a conversation with the guy at the counter comparing James Joyce and De La Soul. Cannot beat that anywhere. Leopold Bloom AND Posdnous would both eat here and dig it. NEVER go to Subway. ALWAYS go to Thundercloud. Yes.

When you think about it, you could use essentially the exact same review for every single one of the 28 Thundercloud locations: «Their food is tasty and always hits the spot, and it’s usually made just the way I want it, but every once in a while an employee is too high and messes up my order, but I’ll still keep coming back because it’s Thundercloud.»
My order of choice: chicken salad, with pickles and jalapeños. I don’t know why they charge extra for pickles and jalapeños when tomatoes and onions are free, but hey, I’m not a vegetable economist. Otherwise, just like everywhere else, my order is made correctly 95% of the time, except for the inevitable times when there’s a 420% chance of a mixup. This location is notable for being drive-​thru only for a big chunk of the evening, but I live within a literally 2 minute bike ride so whatever, man.

I love this Thundercloud. The staff can be intimidating but they are big softies under all those beards and tattoos. The sandwiches are great and the service is always fast. I love that this one has a drive-​thru. Yes, it’s an older building so that might bother some who need their sandwich places pristine. I just care that my sandwich tastes good and there’s nothing gross in it. I haven’t had that problem here!
It gets crazy busy during lunch. The kids from the high school like to hang out here. If you find teenagers annoying, I would stick to the drive thru.

Thundercloud, it appears that after a ten year romance, our love affair has come to an end.
We had a good time, we really did. I overlooked your faults, recounted by countless reviewers here. They didn’t matter to me. You were local, and quirky, and your Italian sub good enough that I didn’t need to go elsewhere. I even ignored the fact that over the last ten years, you haven’t really improved on your faults, but continued to revel in them.
But you always made my sandwich the way I wanted it. Today, you didn’t. It was a very simple substitution that you’ve made for me countless times over the past ten years. Today, it was too much for you to handle. You even told me, «I don’t know who made your sandwich, but I’ve been working here five years and we’ve never done it that way.» Your manager concurred. No substitutions. Not now, not ever. I must be lying about the fact that it had ever been done any other way. This is not a new policy. You made it very clear. I can have my sandwich your way or I can walk.
So I’m walking. It’s been nice knowing you.

I love thundercloud. Like, really really love thundercloud. I could probably eat their sandwiches every day of the week and NOT get sick of them :)
This location is great! Yes, the interior could use some updating, but it’s not like this is a 5-​star restaurant or something — it’s just a sandwich shop, people. I LOVE that this location has a drive-​through too! It is perfect for days when you just cant quiiiiite seem to get out of your PJ’s. OH, and if you have a canine companion in the car with you, they will also give you a doggy treat (bacon!!) I love that. So does my pup!
I don’t really know why everyone is so upset about the staff at this location… everyone that has made my sandwiches is always really nice. Probably high on something, but who cares. My sandwiches are still delicious!

The first visit to this Thundercloud was fantastic. I had my dog in the car so we went through the drive-​thru and the girl at the window gave him bacon. Real bacon! He was beyond excited. I also got my sandwich fast and it was delicious.
The second time my order was entirely messed up, it took a really long time for me to get my sandwich, and the staff member I dealt with was incredibly rude. When I said that I got the wrong sandwich, he acted as though I had personally offended him and it was incredibly inconvenient for him to go change the sandwich… Sorry I’m allergic to avocado, dude, but there was a reason I asked you not to put it on my sandwich.
I’ll try it again and update my review but for now I give 2 stars because my experience has varied SO much.
