When driving through rural Nevada, you feel lucky to find a good place to eat. Austin does not have a lot of choices, but for a basic no frills decent food, this is the place to go to in Austin. Ambiance — well, it is small town diner casual with some effort in decorating and fancying up a bit in a country cure fashion. The tables has cute brightly colored flowered material covered by glass and plastic place mats. The effect was much more charming thanit sounds. In the area closer to the kitchen there are burger bar type benches and tables. Food — We came for a late lunch while traversing the middle of nowhere from Reno to Ely. My BLT was good with lots of crunchy bacon and juicy tomato all on a bed of fresh lettuce. There was a slather of real mayo on the lightly toasted white bread. Nothing fancy, but good solid food. The egg salad was very good. Vey creamy with a nice crunch of fresh celery. Service — this is what really bumps it up to the four star range. The young lady who was working the front of the house was friendly and very personable. She greated us with a huge welcoming smile and made us feel like she had been waiting all day for us to come in. Orders were taken quickly and brought out promptly. I will definately stop here again when traveling that long and lonely road.

My husband had the NY steak dinner. He said it was good and the baked potato was very good. I had the chicken fried steak one of my favorite foods. Hardly ever order it because most places don’t know how to make it. This was one of the best I have had. Maybe too many mashed potatoes. The green beans were delicious also.

Again, another place that treats you like family. Our server(whom I assume was Bub) was like my daughter said«like my Uncle». Food options are wide; from hot dogs and fries to fish and chips, burgers and soup/salad. You won’t regret stopping in.

Had breakfast here as soon as they opened. The food was okay, the coffee was hot, but the waitress hadn’t gotten up to speed yet. Considering that the other breakfast option is the International, this place was a welcome sight(especially considering how remote Austin is).

Best BLT in my lifetime!(77 years) Crisp bacon, fresh lettuce, ripe tomato. Perfectly dressed on toast. I congratulated the cook on work well done. A kitschy place to eat on the Lonesome Road.

Kept it simple and all was great. 3 very Good burgers and good fries! Shake was awesome. Very friendly folks With fun history info for areas. Not many choices in area but this would be a good one for lunch even if there were lots of choices

5 Stars for this cute little diner in an old quaint historical town with not many places to choose from. We both had the Chicken Fried Steak which was devoured with pleasure. The staff were all pleasant and trying real hard to please. Love small towns!

Probably the best place to eat along for 2 hours in either direction. Serves burgers, chicken fired steak, and all sorts of diner food. This place never disappoints. I have been going here since I was a kid. Although there is no longer the sweet ninja turtle video game in the back(I think the airport employees took it), this place still is quite the hot spot of the town. The only other place in town to eat would be the International. Ive never been, but heard the food is comparable.

I had a half hearted attempted at a BLT along with a cup of canned chili. Don’t get me wrong, it was good. Just not the home style cooking I have come to expect from an out of the way hometown style diner. My husband had a burger and fries. The burger looked good and the fries were EXCELLENT. I watched the table next to me order milkshakes which looked incredible. All in all, it was alright. Not the best, not the worst. We were hungry and it was the middle of nowhere.

Stopped in here after 10 days of camping. Ordered bacon cheeseburger and a blueberry shake. I was not disappointed. The fries are very good and not the typical Sysco garbage fries a lot of places serve. The burger was solid and very satisfying with all the toppings being very fresh. Amazing shake. Not sure if it’s a regular thing or just seasonal, but given the chance, try the blueberry. Priced fairly and quick service. I’ll be back again.

Cute atmosphere but that is about it. Had their hamburger but I have had better hamburgers at McDonalds. For what you get it is expensive

This is a quaint little diner in a quaint little town. The staff was very friendly and the food was satisfying. They offer pamphlets and papers on the mining history of the town for the out-of-towners! I got a simple burger, no fries. It came with potato chips and plenty of produce. No complaints!

Great stop for a burger and fries. Onions, tomatoes, pickles, romaine lettuce, mayo, on a sesame bun. Awesome. Thanks Toiyabe Café staff for being friendly and clean. So glad we didn’t eat at a fast food joint.

3.5 A nice little friendly haven in the middle of the Loneliest Road in America. Very simple basic fare with a slightly higher price tag than some people may expect, but hey, the nearest grocery store is a TWO-HOURDRIVEAWAY. Get over it, people. I had a simple turkey sandwich with a small salad for about $ 9. The Irishman ordered the same sandwich with chips, so when the perky high school waitress showed up with a little bag of Lay’s potato chips, the Irishman realized his mistake and said, «I meant to order what you call FRENCHFRIES.» We kept the bag of chips anyway and a piping hot, fresh order of French fries appeared moments later with a smile. For dessert, we ordered soft ice cream to go so that we could go head up Castle Road and watch the beautiful sunset over the desert. A perfect way to end a night in Austin. The Irishman was delighted.

The pickin’s are slim for breakfast in Austin. Fortunately, The Toiyabe Café serves a decent meal, as evidenced by the number of cars usually parked out front. If you’re over munchkin-size, do yourself a favor and sit at one of the tables with real chairs. The tables with the fixed seats are a tight squeeze. Coffee was surprisingly decent and cups were refilled regularly by the friendly server. While they don’t know how to make an omelette correctly, not too many people do, and the eggs were done just right with fresh ingredients. Hash browns are done well, but might be a little too greasy for some folks. Definitely the place to stop in Austin for breakfast or lunch.

Austin is on Highway 50, «The Lonliest Road in America.» Staying overnight here, we asked for the best restaurant in town. Thus we went to the Toiyabe Café for dinner, and back for breakfast the following day, before pressing on east. The food was great, the place was well kept-up, it was all we could have asked for. In addition the place was decorated up to the gills for Halloween.
