Tony E McDowell, DDS

I was anxious about finding a new dentist when I moved to Texas because I loved my dentist back home. Dr. McDowell is so nice and friendly! I was super happy I found him once I met him. I happen to stumble upon his office because he is straight across from my doctor’s office. There’s one front desk staff I have experience that’s really nice. The other one is kinda hot or cold depending on the day. I haven’t meet the dental hygienist yet, but I think they will be fine.

As good as it can get if not better. From the front desk to the dental hygienist. Dr. McDowell’s staff is incredible. They were so warm and nurturing during my visit. Very personable, talkative and just genuinely sweet people. My initial exam from Dr. McDowell was the most professional and thorough dental exam I’ve ever had. I was actually educated during my visit and so happy with his feedback. He explained everything in detail while he was examining my mouth. Most of the time you have no clue what a dentist is talking about. He made my hating the dentist experience much more enjoyable. I found him on Unilocal and he was the 4^th dentist that I had called to get me in. Immediately his staff gave me the attention I needed. His 30 years of experience was shown and they all really love their. The vibe of that place is filled in positive energy. I even got to come back in the afternoon for a cleaning. Thank you for a great experience.

I have been going to Dr. McDowell’s office since I have lived in Austin, so for 4 years now. I have been extremely pleased with all my visits. The staff here is awesome! Molly at the front desk is so helpful and makes sure that everything is worked out with your insurance and that you understand everything ahead of time. All the hygienists that I have had the pleasure of sitting with have been brilliant as well. Dr. McDowell is kind, understanding and has great «bed side manner.» I am pretty sure he has been doing dentistry for awhile and is definitely an expert!
My best friend, Kimberly K, actually recommended that I go here and am glad I trusted her on this recommendation. Over the past year I finally convinced my fiancé to go to the dentist as he is deathly afraid of any dentist type work. Dr. McDowell and his team were compassionate and understanding. They have done everything they can to help him and make him comfortable along the way. They recommended him to an awesome oral surgeon as well. I have referred a couple of other co-​workers to Dr. McDowell and they have all been pleased with the work they have gotten here.
If you are looking for a dentist in Austin or south Austin then I highly recommend Dr. McDowell and his team! In my opinion it does not get any better than this.

Dr. McDowell is a fantastic dentist! He is friendly and genuine, and he who won’t try to convince you to get unnecessary procedures or sell you things you don’t need.

I had initially been referred to «Dr. Tony» many years ago by a co-​worker when I had complained about the cost of a porcelain crown. Stupidly, I did not switch dentists until two years later when I was needing more dental work (crown/​apicoectomy). Dr. McDowell referred me to an oral surgeon for the apicoectomy while he took care of the crown. Needless to say, I have been a patient for many years now and am VERY happy with the care and treatments I have received. The dental hygienists are gentle and thorough. (Thanks Jenny!) Molly and the rest of the office staff are wonderful and helpful when explaining what your cost will be. Dr. McDowell is a gem of a human being and a wonderful dentist. I have referred many people to this office and continue to do so.

My previous dentist diagnosed me with gingivitis, and recommended a costly treatment plan. I came to Dr. McDowell for a second opinion, and decided he would be my dentist from then on. The receptionists and hygienist were wonderful, and I trusted that I was not being over-​diagnosed with unnecessary procedures.

I love Tony! I’ve been going to him for years and I think he’s just the best! Molly who works at the front desk is also great, she really works with you to do appointments and make sure that your insurance is covering everything as best as it can. I’ve had a few procedures where I wasn’t ready to cut a $ 600 check right then and there so they always let me pay on a payment plan when I needed it. I’m always amazed when I go to the doctor and they act like we shouldn’t be shocked at how much everything costs and everyone has an extra $ 600 a month to throw around. Sorry I don’t!
The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars is I’ve been unimpressed with some of the assistants. One in particular is very cold and has zero «bedside manner» so if you go and you get this person, don’t let it totally turn you off, there are others that are nicer and Tony is so sweet, it’s worth dealing with someone less then thrilled to be at work.

I never thought I would utter these words, «I love my dentists». I am one of those, like many who suffers sever anxiety going to the dentists. Last week a molar that I had previously had a root canal on back in San Francisco started aching & swelling. My boyfriend said why don’t we make an appointment for you with my dentist. I did. I first went in for a consultation and he immediately put me on penicillin and set up an appointment for an extraction and bridge shaving, something no one looks forward too. I explained to Tony that I had severe anxiety, so much so that my hands were sweating driving in. He told me to have someone drive me to the next visit and he gave me a prescription for two Triazolam which I was to take prior to the appointment. When I arrived I was completely relaxed and with jello legs. Tony handed me a Walkman and asked what station I listened too. My boyfriend said last time he was there he gave him this portable DVD player to watch a movie. The procedure was fast. The only pain I felt was the shots of Novocaine going in. While I was feeling rough yesterday I woke up today feeling, well A.O.K. Tony is one of those dentists who is compassionate, easy going and obviously believes in the patient being as comfortable as possible. His staff is very warm & professional. Honestly if all dentists were like him, maybe my dental anxiety would be cured for good. I hope I don’t have to see him for a while, but if I do I know I will be in good hands. I plan on scheduling a check up with him for my son.
