Frank seems like a nice guy but I think there is something wrong wiith his reservations system. I arrived for a 2PM appointment I had scheduled and someone else was just sitting down to have a haircut with him. 20 minutes later I was still waiting and had to go. He may want to do away with the online appointment system and just do walk-ins if he can’t honor appointment times.

I’ve been going to Frank Owens for years, and now he’s at Travis Hair Styling. This man is the real deal. Not only is he truly a first-class guy, but he gives a great haircut. Bring your business to Frank.

As a guy, not of the metro-sexual variety, I’m not one to be alll too picky about my barber/friseur. As it turns out, there really is still a difference between your run-of-the-mill eat while you cut places, sports bar shops, and a real pro. For years my mother subjected me to Visible Changes in Barton Creek mall *shudder*. The neon lights, the completely black and white theme, with every flavor of hair stylist you can think of, just didn’t really strike a chord with me. So once I had to start paying for my own cuts, I ran away as quickly as possible and started hitting the joints overrun with TV. After a few embarrassing cuts around those places, I moved up to the classic joints: old-school barber shops(of which there are several around). Now, given that I was born after Michael Jackson’s true heyday, I’m not much for nostalgia when it comes to getting my hair cut. So, after a few cuts that were good, but really plain and fratty looking, I had to think about a new direction. Then I remembered a woman from Visible Changes: Mary Reyna. She’s always done my dad’s hair, and since my dad is a true-to-the-core german who doesn’t do the frills of a chic store front, I never truly understood what the appeal was. Anyhow, I decided to ask my old man about her, and it turns out she left VC and moved here, to Travis Hair Styling. So, without thinking about it twice, I headed on over. Now, I’ve gotta say, it’s not the cheapest cut. As a matter of fact it’s probably too expensive for a typical male haircut, but, I really think it’s worth it. Located on the ground floor of the Omni Hotel, word has it that a lot of the judges and government officials get their hair done. Including the Perry. Not that I’m a fan of Rick Perry, but, damn that guy has slick hair. So, if you’ve got a little bit of coin to burn and feel like having an interesting conversation, this is your place. I dropped about 27 clams before tip, and for the first time, I didn’t have to wait the requisite 3 days for my haircut to «grow in.» It was great the second I got out, and was lauded with compliments soon thereafter.
