Yo!!! This place is hands down the best Tex Mex I’ve ever had. The service was laid back and helpful… almost like friends. The drink specials were very good and plentiful and the food was impeccable. I had the Honey Cholula chicken with street corn & zucchini(heavenly) and my friend had the chicken chimichanga with rice & re-fried black beans, which were the best I’ve ever had in life. I’m from Tennessee and live in Houston and I’d drive to eat here. Seriously. Also the stuffed avocado is so tasty!!!

Met the girls here for brunch. They had $ 2.50 mimosas, screwdrivers and $ 4 bloody mary. I’m not new to Trudys and the service was great as usual. I had the spinach and portobello omelet which was ok but the dragonfruit mojito never fails.

The stuffed avocados are phenomenal, The roasted veggie sides are really good and can be substituted for the standard beans and rice.

Service was really good and it has a nice seating area. I got the stuffed avocado and it was good but a little to rich for me. Kinda just tastes like really salty avocado and chicken and cheese. I don’t think I would order it again but I would definitely want to come back and try something else on the menu.

It probably has the best Tex mex in town and the mexi marts are great! However, the table service is pretty shitty here:’(they’re always slow to greet guests and horrible with checking up on your table. It’s sad giving 2 stars when you actually like going to the place.

The food was pretty good. I got mango shrimp quesadillas and I enjoyed them. The queso was nothing special, but it was fine. The best part of this place is definitely their drinks. Both the normal margarita and the sangrita are great, although honestly you can’t taste much of a difference between the two because they’re so strong(don’t get me wrong, this is a good thing). The main reason I didn’t love it was just that we had pretty bad service while we were there. It’s probably just because it was a Friday night, but after waiting a good twenty minutes, we had a really inattentive waiter to the point that we weren’t really even sure who it was at one point because the hostess kept coming over to check on us, because we didn’t have our drinks or any chips. We were there for maybe two hours and they barely refreshed the chip basket or our water cups, and we had to flag them down when we wanted to order something because they never checked on us. The margaritas are definitely great though. Those are the reason I’d go back, but probably on a less crowded night than the weekend, or just sitting at the bar.

I think this place is one of the best places to drink and eat near campus. Mondays has the infamous meximart night where it is way 2ez to get drunk(like nasty drunk hehehe). The food is what you expect from a tex mex place that is above taco cabana level. I usually only eat the al pastor fajitas and they are delicious, however this leaves me unversed in the ways of the other foods available here.

Trudy’s has consistently been in the rotation since my first week at UT in the mid 2000’s. Close to campus and affordable, it only got better once we got access to the bar. The wait can be a little long on a Friday/Sat night, but it’s completely worth it. This time, I brought my girlfriend(who’s from the Northeast) and felt I needed to give her a sense of what college was for me. We put our name in, and before 15 minutes had passed actually found two seats at the bar in perfect view of the TV. We actually even got a 10−15% discount(don’t remember the exact number) off our food for sitting at the bar instead of a table. I got the tacos al pastor with pineapple, which worked surprisingly well, and she had the fish tacos which were crispy and had great flavor. Of course, we grabbed a pair of Mexican martinis(as is tradition) which led the classic«I don’t taste anything» followed by a «supported by the boyfriend because the sidewalk is wobbly» walk back to the hotel. Never change, Trudy’s.

If you are going here to get wasted at happy hour and eat queso then by all means charge onwards. But if you are going here to eat food, think again. For some reason austinites have a love affair with Trudy’s, which most likely is brought on by the margherita-induced alcohol-sugar coma they are mistaking for a good time. This then masks their ability to determine regular average tex Mex from great food. Then they go home and tell all their friends how great Trudy’s is when in reality it is just«ok». The food is enjoyable when eaten after a minimum of 2 margs but completely not worth the price sober.

Migas and Mexican martinis! Get those! I can’t speak for anything else on the menu; I have been here once(an Austinite friend took me when I was in town) and all I ordered was the Migas Enchiladas(Migas served enchilada style) and the Mexican martini. The martini was well mixed and generous; I got 3 martini glasses with the shaker. Strong enough to give me a buzz. The Migas were nice and spicy. My friend loves the stuffed avocado; so if you love avocado(I hate it), she recommends it highly. Also, I want to give kudos to Trudy’s for banning firearms. With the new Texas law, I was concerned about finding a place to eat that banned firearms.

Came here for my husband birthday and it was a great time! They gave him a free drink because it was his birthday! Also Trudy’s has a great happy hour throughout the week. Make sure you try their Famous Mexican Martini.

This is a great place for delicious food and drinks! I came here with a large group before our flight leaving Austin. A few of us were in a rush so we only ate a little and got the rest of our food to go. Our server was very accommodating by splitting the bill between the two groups and made sure our orders came out quickly since we had to leave soon. Since we weren’t too hungry, my bf and I shared an appetizer and one entrée. We got the mini stuffed avocados as our appetizer since so many Unilocalers raved about them and they were seriously delicious! Totally worth all the hype! It came with 4 stuffed avocados and 3 different sauces for dipping. One was cheesy, one was a salsa, and the last one, my favorite, was a white sauce which I have no idea what it was haha. For our entrée, we got the Smoked Tinga Quesadilla. We only had time to eat one slice of it and it was sooo good! There was so much flavor which made it hard for me to stop myself so that we could leave. We got it with a side of guacamole. Their guac is delicious too! It was so good, we finished the rest of the quesadilla at the airport. The only issue with the quesadilla was it was a little tooo greasy. Every time I picked up a piece to eat, there was grease dripping. But that’s probably why it was so tasty… I didn’t get to try any drinks but a couple of others in the group did and said everything they got was great. I’m sad I was in such a rush when I was here but luckily I still tried some great food from here.

Very uncomfortable place! Not to mention there was a ROACH in my food! I had eaten most of my food and towards the end I realized there was a ROACH in my rice! I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Find another TEXMEX restaurant this isn’t the place

Good quesadillas, terrible margaritas. The fajita chicken quesadillas are cheesy triangles of heaven. I deeply enjoyed my quesadilla dish. The margarita, however, seemed like it had no alcohol in it. The taste was rather pleasant, but after a while it simply tasted sour, so sour that it dangerously triggered my acid reflux. I felt so bloated after drinking this margarita and I could barely finish it. What is most unfortunate is that the bloat wasn’t even worth it because I wasn’t even tipsy! I also tried the stuffed avocados and wasn’t impressed.

I loved this place! I was only visiting Austin but a friend who lives there took us for lunch. The chicken fried steak was SO good. Filled with so many different flavors, loved how it had a distinct Rosemary flavor too. It was super tasty. The onions and parley on top just made it that much better. It’s a pretty big portion and I didn’t finish all of it. Now the drinks here are serious, I think there’s a one drink limit on their famous Mexican Martini because it’s super strong. It was seriously one of the best drinks I’ve ever had! Also had a margarita but the martini was my favorite. Customer service here was also great. It was a Friday afternoon and not so busy but our waiter was just a super friendly person and very informative about the place, it’s history, and the menu. Do stop in if you’re visiting!

Horrible service! Not worth it. We order 2 cocktails and a Sprite and took forever to get cocktails and had to ask for the Sprite twice. Order appetizer of Chili Con Queso and they never refilled the chip basket. When we told her to put on what check she screwed that up. Management really needs to train staff much better! Good thing they have good cooks for the food but service is important as well.

Where the beginning of bad decisions are made. Without a doubt, Trudy’s has one of the most popular drinks in Austin, the Mexican Martini, and you get an entire shaker of it. Even without happy hour pricing(in which it’s a steal), I think it’s a great value, especially with how much liquor is in it. I personally can only drink half a shaker before handing it off to one of my friends. #lightweight #noshame My conspiracy theory is that the drinks are to distract you from how decidedly plain the food is. I don’t think Trudy’s food is particularly special/worth waiting ages for(seriously…the wait here can get ridiculous; 30+ minutes easy), but one thing they do really well here: migas. They’re available all day, too! Rounding back to the wait: service here is so. slow. The servers aren’t bad by any means, it’s just that this restaurant gets WAY too busy for its own good, resulting in a noticeable delay in drinks and food. I’m not particularly keen on waiting 40 minutes for my food to be served. Trudy’s is a super convenient Tex-Mex option near campus, but I don’t think it’s worth a special trip unless you’re trying to accomplish Trudy’s Trifecta.

First of all, I think our waiter was straight up on drugs or something. He looked extremely flustered and was just all over the place. The place itself had a boat feel, not what you would expect for a tex mex place. Awesome mojitos. You get them in a large shaker cup too.(5⁄5) Beef fajitas for 2, but can easily serve 3 if not all members are hungry. Chicken fried steak. Hearty piece of steak and the batter was thick enough to hold its crisp without turning soggy too fast. You don’t get complimentary chips and salsa here, unfortunately. Would I come back? Yup. For those mojitos!

I was a bit disappointed with my overall Trudy’s experience. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, I was able to calm my nerves with their signature Mexican Martini, which was actually quite good. It wasn’t too sweet and packed a punch in terms of alcohol content. I then had some chips and the smoked chicken chimichanga. The queso was lackluster and the chimichanga was alright albeit being incredibly heavy. TLDR; service was bad, food was okay, and drinks were great. If you like average tex-mex, Trudy’s is the place for you.

Highlights — Good specials — Slow but friendly service — Outside seating is dog friendly I’ve only been to Trudy’s a handful of times, but it’s always a pretty tasty experience. From their drinks(namely their margaritas) to their specialty entrees(read: stuffed avocado), they provide quite an appetizing experience. The most recent time I came we opted for outdoor seating where they allowed us to bring our dogs. The staff was very friendly and brought out water bowls for both of them. The biggest drawback was the time to get our food out. I suppose they can get pretty busy at times but it took 45+ minutes for our meals to get out. Overall, still a good experience and definitely worth coming back for their drink specials.

Drink specials are great. Happy hour is great. Food is usually pretty good– not the best tex mex but definitely worth a stop for those visiting Austin. Prices are reasonable, and service is pretty friendly as well. This time, I ordered the vegetable plate for lunch(a choice of 4 sides), and I wasn’t very fond of it. The dinner salad had a puddle of water on the bottom, and the vegetable sides were mediocre. Come here for the drink specials(Mexican martini) and fried avocado or tacos, not the vegetable plate.

I’ve had a few friends who told me about Trudy’s because it is only found in Austin. I was quite disappointed about my experience here. The space isn’t as big as I imagined though. The restaurant seemed like a late night place to pre-game honestly. I haven’t been to the other location, but this Trudy’s smells downstairs where the restrooms are. There is an additional bar downstairs. The bartender upstairs(first floor) was jovial and recommended Mexican Martinis, which were delicious. One order can be shared by two people, if you want. We arrived around 9:30PM but didn’t get seated until 10:15PM. Our waiter seemed to be high on life. Was on something for sure. It took awhile to get our orders in and actually get our food. I thought chips and salsa were complimentary but nope. Apparently, we ordered some which arrived 5 minutes before our food. I’m not sure when the food arrived, but I know I was craving some chips and salsa to the point I was asking about it every 15 minutes. I got a beef fajita platter for two and shared it among two friends. It was more than plenty that we didn’t finish but maybe we weren’t that hungry anymore. It was like the average beef fajita that you would find at other Tex-Mex restaurants though. Our other friend ordered the chicken fried steak, which was huge! The batter was delicious. To sum it up: Typical average Tex-Mex. Delicious Mexican Martini. Bad service. Would I come back? Just for the Mexican Martini. Can I get two to-go?

THESERVICEWASTERRIBLE. It took us 2.5 hours to get our drinks, order, food, and checks. After we got our drinks, my friends and I waited for the waiter(who was on his last day of training) and a woman(Andrea) shadowing him to come get our order. But do you know what I see… I see them chit chatting with the table next to us for about 10 minutes while I eye them down because they should be taking our order, not talking about Eeyore’s freaken birthday. I swear I stared at them for what seemed like forever because I was able to catch the conversation and see them exchange numbers to hang out at Eeyore’s freaken birthday. After they got my order, they came out not once to double check what I got, but TWICE. At first I thought they were busy with other tables, but I didn’t see them anywhere in the restaurant while I see other servers attending their table. They were no where to be found whenever we needed them, like when we needed our checks. I would understand if it was a busy night, but it was a Thursday and they even said it wasn’t a busy night. So what’s their excuse?!
