reasons the prices are so high: –it’s in the middle of downtown –portions are pretty big, as previously noted by others –there isn’t that much NOLA food in Austin. so monopoly –it’s pretty good food! The wait is a bit long and there’s only outside seating along the street, but my catfish po boy was delicious. My only regret is not asking for another container of the creamy sauce.

Yum! This place is pricey but you get what you pay for. I’m a big fan of their fish tacos. They are HUGE! I can easily make two meals out of them. They are so flavorful and full of cilantro, onion and other veggies. They have tons of seafood options to choose from, available grilled, blackened or fried. I’ve had both blackened and grilled and both were delicious. They have non-seafood and vegetarian options as well, although I haven’t tried those yet. They take orders through a window on the sidewalk at Lavaca Street Bar. There isn’t much seating available out on the sidewalk, but you can sit inside the bar as well.

Super casual eatery with good quality ingredients making solid food offerings. I had the steak po boy which I was close in to a good steak sandwich. My lunch mate had the oyster po boy and she liked it. As appetizers we tried the jalapeño hush puppies and the bacon wrapped jalapeño shrimp. The hush puppies were just ok. The bacon wrapped shrimp was better once deconstructed– too much going on with the bacon and jalapeño and shrimp together. Advice– one sandwich is a meal– no need for sides or appetizers.

Hands down one of the best places we eaten at in Austin! The blackened fish tacos – irrespective of whether you choose to have them made with the blackened cod, blackened red snapper, or blackened sea bass – we’ve tried them all! – are hands down dome of the tastiest tacos I’ve ever eaten – if not the tastiest! Love love love the blackened fish tacos at Turf and Surf. The seasoning is spot on awesome! You can also get blackened fish on a salad with cilantro ranch dressing – also a winner winner! We have also tried the chicken parmigiano po’ boy(awesome!!), as well as the sweet potato fries(yummy!!), and the guacamole(delicious!) Guy Fieri needs to hear about this and feature it on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Best blackened fish tacos – make that just the flat out best fish tacos – I’ve ever tasted!!!

Amazing! Yellow tail and Shrimp Po boy are highly recommended. So yummy. Cilantro fries are delicious.

Great Po Boys! We had the crawfish and porkchop ones and they were both delicious, but my favorite, of course, was the crawfish! You can’t go wrong with crawfish in Texas! There’s a pool table, shuffle board and basketball for entertainment. And a full bar! We really enjoyed our meal. I did, however, take off one star for the attitude the girl taking orders gave us.

Cool place! Gigantic poboys and very fresh. Only complaint is that it’s a bit expensive for a poboy(and really kind of expensive all around). However, I do want to return for jalapeño hush puppies and their nachos, which I’ve heard are both delicious. Other note: We went there on a Saturday afternoon, I wanted to use the restroom inside(after ordering) and they checked ID, I found that odd, but maybe I’m just not used to it. But be prepared in case they ask. Staff was nice and friendly as well.

This place is located in Lavaca Street Bar. It’s quick and convieient whether you’re dining in or getting takeout. I love the fried oyster po boy here. The oysters were fried perfectly and melted in my mouth. The po boy bread was good and the sandwich was dressed nicely with fresh produce. You can get tacos or a salad with your protein as well. I haven’t tried the sides here. The fried oyster po boy is my go-to and I don’t see that changing. I recommend trying their food. You won’t regret it.

Excellent. So good. Always get fish tacos. No need for anything more. Come on a Tuesday, get $ 1 beers and hit the pool table. Easy night.

It’s the best part of Lavaca Street Bar and you don’t even have to go in the bar for it! My friends and I split some hot chicken tenders(pretty solid), jalapeño hushpuppies(great) and sweet potato fries(ok). I’d like to try some of their seafood.

I don’t particularly love tacos by any means. The first time, I knew these were damn good when I had finished both my tacos and I had forgotten to add hot sauce. I love hot sauce. Since then I’ve probably eaten here every other week and I’ve never been disappointed. My girlfriend, who does in fact consider herself a taco connoisseur, says the grilled snapper taco is the best taco she’s ever had. I’ve also has the poboy version of a few of the items, great bread, all excellent. Sides aren’t anything to write off either and the owner occasionally serves off the menu items which have all been above average at least.

Stopped by here with my boyfriend after reading the Unilocal reviews. The bar next door and Turf N Surf work with each other but not together. If you want to eat here for dinner and sit inside(21+) The food was really delicious, but kind of expensive for college students. $ 15-$ 20 per thing. We decided to share and if it had been cheaper, probably would’ve gotten each our own. We wanted more, just too pricy.

One of the best chicken wings in town. Awesome sports bar with real sports fans. Not too fratty and not too rowdy. Fish tacos are pretty good but it’s getting saltier and saltier. One thing is for sure, they’re big enough to fill you up, so the high pricing is well worth it. Did I also mention that the chicken wings are ONPOINT? Hope they don’t change whatever they are doing.

I don’t always pay $ 16 for a po’boy, but when I do, it’s from Turf N Surf Po Boy! No joke, this was one of the best fish sandwiches I’ve ever had. Side note: parking downtown is terrible. Get street metered parking if you can(or better yet bike or take the bus here) but do not get suckered into parking in a LAZ metered parking lot. I made the mistake of initially parking in a LAZ lot about 1 block from Turf n Surf and when I went to pay the meter, it offered me this bizarre payment schedule: 1) 9 hours for $ 15(WHYIS9HOURSTHEMINIMUM??) 2) 9 hours for $ 20(WHYISTHISEVENHERE…) 3) 11 hours for $ 20(no, just… no). 4) 15 hours for your first-born and… A SHRUBBERY!!! ANYWAY, parking pains and Monty Python demands aside… You can order outside on the street from the window or go inside of the bar that they share the space with and order inside. You can sit anywhere, there’s self service water pitchers inside as well. I tried the grilled ahi tuna poboy and my husband got the blackened mahi mahi. They were both market price which ended up being about $ 16 each. I would never ordinarily pay this much for a sandwich… but these are no ordinary sandwiches. For one, they were ginormous, easily the size of 2 sandwiches at any other restaurant. Each half was stuffed with an entire fish filet, cooked perfectly(I kid you not, the tuna was. perfect; seared on the outside with visible grill markings, tender, pink, and juicy on the inside), along with some greens, slaw, tomato, onion, and pickles. I squeezed lime over my fish and dug in… and just couldn’t stop eating. With fish this delicious and fresh, don’t get it fried. Grilling or blackening is definitely the way to go. We also tried the jalapeño poppers(came with a tasty creamy sauce and were perfectly fried, not dry at all on the inside) and the cilantro fries(crispy cajun styled fries with cilantro on top) and would recommend both. The main thing I learned from today was that 2 people can probably share 1 po’boy if they’re not super hungry, add in a side of poppers or fries if you want a fuller meal. If you’re a crazy person like me and ordered 2 entrees and a side for 2 people then be prepared to take home some leftovers! I know I’ll be back for more because I’m already craving it writing this review…

AH.MAY.ZINGGG All the seafood is fresh and deliciously seasoned. The Po’ Boys are served on a sweet, wheat bun with oats. Definitely get the Jalapeño Hush Puppies and sweet potato fried to share if you get a Po’ Boy. There’s a full bar with draft beer, a pool table, open high table area, and quieter/more intimate sitting area. Highly recommendable :)

Decided to stop here for lunch during a day out in downtown Austin. It is set inside a bar called Lavaca Street Bar. First off, the food is a little expensive. I thought that getting two tacos for $ 18 was a bit much, but we were starving and it looked good. I grabbed a beer from the bar and chose to get the blankened tuna after asking the girl behind the counter what people liked. She didn’t steer me wrong. These were some of the best fish tacos I’ve ever had. They were HUGE and the two were easily more than I should have eaten by myself(but I did.) The tuna was perfectly seared and gave each bite just the right amount of fish flavor. They were huge chunks covered in the blackened seasoning and pink on the inside. I could have eaten a plate of the fish by itself! We also got a plate of the sweet potato fries which were also great, but I was focused on these tacos, son. If I was ever back in Austin I would hit up this place again in a heartbeat. Like I said, it is a little expensive, but the fish is fresh and whoever is doing the cooking knows their stuff. Worth every penny.

I feel like I’ve heard both glowing reviews and critical comments about this place. Some say it’s amazing, some say overhyped. Now I can finally add my own two cents, having tried the Blackened Ahi Tuna tacos, which is apparently one of the items they originally got popular for. We also got an order of the Hush Puppies, which were alright but pretty greasy to be honest, so I wouldn’t get them again. But the tuna tacos man, AMAZING. The mixed greens were super fresh and the sauce on them was mad tasty. The tuna itself was deep pink in the middle, very juicy but not undercooked. Perfect. The«blackened» flavor was amazing too, somewhat smoky but not quite, really what I expect blackened to be. Such flavor! I may be back to try the catfish po-boy.

My review is for the price I just paid for blacked crawfish nachos. The menu states: nachos 10– Blacked crawfish 11– That totals $ 21 for nachos. Little did I know last time I came in they were $ 9. That’s some pricy azz nachos. Granted the portion was obese style. Still not worth the price tag.

Before flying to Austin for a conference, I scoped out the restaurant scene and picked out a flew places for the boy and I to try out. Turf N Surf was one of those places because I love seafood and he loves fried shrimp. We ordered the ahi tuna sandwich and a shrimp basket. It was expensive considering what we got and we were unimpressed with the flavors. Service was good though!

Order at the counter then sit at a table in lavaca street bar. Nice, friendly people and casual atmosphere. Food: huge portions. I ordered the cod salad, and it came with two filets. It was good quality seafood and seasoned very well. The salad had a good mix of veggies, which I liked. Also, the cilantro ranch dressing was yummy. My friends got the po boy and tacos– both huge as well. For the price you definitely get ample portions. Overall, delicious seafood in New Orleans style. A good place to try with no complaints!
