So many different types of meat to have your burger made from– be adventurous! Their pickle bar is the absolute best part of the place.

Cool atmosphere. Burger presentation was good but lousy tasting. Had the American. Bug 8oz burger that was cooked on a flat top very greasy. Pretzel Bun was dry and tuff with the exception of the bottom half which was grease soaked. Did not eat bottom half. Fries put on same level as burger King. I luv burgers and try every stand I find but for 10.99 for burger and fries this was a 1 time only visit. Many more options that are much better at this price or cheaper. I suspect they will be out of business within a year if they do not fix the product.

Wow — massive menu change. NOHOTDOGS! This location still has limited amounts of game meats, and the menu has lost a lot of its exoticness. Still lots of fun stuff to eat, and very customizable, but more limited than ever. I do love the pickle bar and the fountain drink selections.

Perhaps if I played the mini golf it would’ve earned an extra star, but based on the food and milkshakes alone it was just MEH! I had the something farmer choice burger — it had kale pesto, a turkey patty, and goat cheese. I lurve turkey burgers and this one was pretty good. Had I stopped here we would probably be standing at 4 stars. But I went on to the ‘treat yo self’ fries which were tremendously disappointing. $ 5 for a super small portion of fries with a touch of mediocre toppings. And the shakes, banana pudding and smores, were good only due to the nature of the ingredients being good. Pretty much any other fancy shake place is better — hopdoddy’s, hat creek. It’s very family friendly, and entertaining that you get a celebrity name instead of your own. I forgot to take a picture of the food but I don’t think I’ll be back for a do-over.

Mmmm, great burgers! I had the Happy Pilgrim which is a turkey burger on wheat bun with kale pesto, spinach, and goat cheese. Wow! The flavor combination did a happy little tap dance on my tongue. I also ordered the sweet potato chips(they are dusted with cinnamon), which gave a fabulous sweet factor to the savory of the burger. I also tried the fried pickles, they were a bit too salty for my tastes. If you’re looking for a unique burger experience, ask about the meat of the day. They were serving wild boar burgers on the day I was there. Don’t forget to check out the pickle bar were they have 6 unique pickle falvors. The ranch pickles are my favorite. Great food. Decent prices. Fun atmosphere. Over all a great burger experience!

The veggie burger was delicious and made in-house. I like that they have a variety of meats, cheeses, & toppings(I added goat cheese & avocado). I wish the burgers came with a side instead of a la carte. WARNING: The sweet potato chips were good, but very sweet with the sugar sprinkled on top! Maybe they’ll add sweet potato fries at some point. Very friendly and quick service.

Great Service! I love that instead of a number you get a funny character name. I ordered a custom burger with swiss and hatch green chilies and the hubby had a burger with swiss and bacon. Both burgers were cooked perfectly and tasted great. We also split and order of fries which is more than enough to share. Overall great experience and will definitely go back if in the area. Next time will try a shake.

Tons of variety at this place. Getting a game burger and a $ 2 tall boy of PBR sounds pretty great to me. I got a beef burger and it was moist and delicious. I was also a fan of the pickle bar, tried all of them, because I could. They all tasted awesome. Not the cheapest of burgers, but it’s another great place to check out in Austin.

The late freight again is where I sit. May 5, 2015 and I needed food. I was monsta hungry and if I didn’t get food there was gonna be consequences(mainly hurridley eaten food followed by flatulence). I got on Unilocal and let it be my guide. Then I found this place. I traveled there and the parking lot wasn’t crowded. I wondered if that was a good thing or not. One thing I noticed was the golf course outside. I thought it was something different you don’t see at burger joints in particular. I got in and was able to move through line swiftly. I chose the southwest burger combo. My food came out in about 12 minutes. The meal was pretty hot and fresh. I was not overly impressed by the burger. My fries were good and the soda options were okay. The burger was in my opinion middle of the road. I wouldn’t say it was bursting with flavor. The pattie wasn’t dry but it just didn’t wow me. For the price the food didn’t live up to the hype. Decent but not at the level I like. I might go again but the place wouldn’t be a top 3 choice.

If you’ve spent much time in the Dallas area Twisted Root is a familiar sight. It’s a Texas chain that kicks out better than average burgers on a consistent basis and while they are going to be more expensive than what you’d get at Five Guys or Whataburger the quality at Twisted Root is a few notches better, too. It’s also a fun, upbeat place to grab a bite for those grubbing solo, with friends or larger parties. While Twisted Root does offer an array of game meats(they aren’t in stock most of the time) you’ll likely have to choose between a beef, turkey, bison or veggie burger, all of which are large, well seasoned and topped with premium toppings depending on what burger you choose. Patrons have the option of ordering a pre-designed burger(like the popular Freshman 15 or Verde) or creating their own. Either way, expect a large burger and with a side of fries(or sweet potato fries) to be stuffed. Known for burgers, they also offer a few salads, and huge hot dogs(even the ones that come with the kids meal). Hands down, if you’re a fan of burgers this will become a regular spot on your eat-out tour. Three things you should try: *Bubble Gum Root Beer *Watermelon Sweet Tea *Sweet Potato Chips(topped with sugar)

Kinda dig the theme here… along w/just the cool quirkiness of it. My first time here and the gal that took my order at the counter was just so sweet in getting me acquainted with the whole menu, process, and pickle bar. She even let me sample the sweet potato chips and peanut butter dipping sauce before ordering(cuz you can’t get the spchips w/o the pb, trust me on this one!). I had the Freshman 15 burger; this thing was pretty massive and came w/everything except a student loan and«fat pants»! They have a pretty funny name calling system. You get assigned a name of a famous person, tv personality, or character. It was entertaining to hear the different names being called. I chuckled a lil bit when Beyonce, Lil Kim, and Mary Catherine Gallagher were all called(me and my friends orders) because one these is definitely not like the others! The price point is in keeping w/the a la carte burger trend of Shake Shack, Mighty Fine, and the like, so plan on dropping $ 12+ for your burg, fries, and drink. They have a little bar cabana in the patio seating area and if you buy an adult bevvie or milkshake you get a free round of mini-golf, so that needs to happen next time! All in all a good first impression.

Not a fan. For one thing, this place has been around for MAYBE three months and it is dirty. I’m not one to really take note of the cleanliness of a joint, but this was dirty enough that I thought maybe it wouldn’t be such a good idea to eat there. The burgers were OK, I had the«Kevin Bacon» burger with bleu cheese and bacon, and BF got something with fried something on top of it. It was OK too. The pickle bar is a cute idea, the different game meat options are a cute idea, calling out celebrity names to get your food is a cute idea, but all of it together is too much and too kitschy. What really brought the review from three to two was our $ 8 adult«banana and bailey’s» milkshake, which tasted like a tub of cool-whip mixed with half a banana. We literally went home and made a better banana and bailey’s milkshake without even trying. If friends want to come here, I won’t argue, but I definitely won’t choose to come back to this place. Lots of burgers to choose from in this town!

The BOM Unilocal UYE brought me into this location! I was happy to see there was a huge parking lot and I love the idea of the outdoor patio(in cooler weather) and the small miniature golf area. The line moves by quickly and they give you a slip of paper with a character name on it to pick up your order. They also offer a selection of game meats that vary by location and a pickle bar with about 6 or 7 different types of house made pickles which intrigued me as a pickle lover. Kevin Bacon(3 pieces of bacon and Danish bleu cheese): The bacon pieces were enormous, juicy and thick just the way they should be. The bleu cheese was obviously fresh and my burger was cooked perfectly the way that I ordered it. The burgers are enormous so if you plan on divulging in some sides you should probably share a burger. The only thing I didn’t really care for was the bun. Fried Green Beans: This item is worth ordering but, the breading is heavy so you have to like that. Fried Pickles: The first order that we received were underdone. We took them back to the counter and the manager came out with our new order and made sure to tell us they were fresh and not the old order. She also said that they were extra done and to make sure to ask for that when we come back in again. I’m not sure they were underdone because the breading was still very wet but, they made it right on the second order. If you are into dipping fried items into ranch(who doesn’t in Texas right?) I would recommend the house ranch. It was creamy but, still full of flavor. Pickle Bar: The only pickles that I truly enjoyed were the dill pickles. I tried them all but, I will let you be the judge for yourself when you stop in! A place to grab a big juicy burger and maybe enjoy a beer with it on the patio when it cools down.

Let me just go ahead and get this out there. This location fails to live up to the Deep Ellum one. There. Said it. Now I’ll move on. The first thing that hit me was the old grease smell. You know what I’m talking about. When the grease gets so old it starts smoking and stinking up the place. Such was my experience here today. This is probably more of a three star review, but, bottom line is the burger is good enough to land a four. At least I think so. The«name thing» really doesn’t work here as the lady calling the names had the personality of a snapping turtle. Might as well have been calling numbers. Put some humor in it lady. The pickles rocked it with the dill and bread & butter being my two favs. I wasn’t impressed with the outside bar as it was 100 fucking degrees Fahrenheit. The mini golf course is excellent for the kids. One thing that really sets TR apart from other joints is their selection of wild game. An impressive offering of Venison, Rabbit, Emu, Camel, Bison, Elk, Beaver and a couple of others. I think they rotate them. Not sure. I just stuck with Moo-Moo. My burger was every bit as good as I remember from my experience in DE. Seasoned well and not over done. A moist seasoned patty with a whole slice of onion and I didn’t have to beg for it. They know how to serve a burger for sure, and, boys and girls, this burger was meant for beer drankin”. Just sayin’. Their side offerings are creative, but, the straight cut fries are limp stix. Not impressive at all. A couple of items that I will have to check out next time are the fried pork skins and fried green tomatoes! On todays visit we were discounted three cents for«cutest baby». Still not sure what that meant. We didn’t have a baby with us. Maybe they were talking about me?

What’s not to love?! Choose from any of the great creations of their own(substitutions allowed) or create your own = burger bliss! Been digging Twisted Root since their first location opened in Deep Ellum(Dallas) way back in 2005. SO happy there is one is the ATX now! The(maybe not so) quick 411: Gourmet burgers that won’t break the bank and worth every $. House creations have great names(e.g., Sexy Hawaiian, Ranch Hand, etc.). Unique game meat substitutions for a slight up-charge(like 4 bucks), change occasionally, but often include Rabbit, Lamb, Venison, Elk, Bison, Ostrich, Gator, Kangaroo, and so on(bump right up to 5 stars for such variety). Veg and GF options available. Ample sides to choose from: sweet pot chips, cheddar fries, fried pork skins, and more. There’s also a self-serve pickle bar with a variety of sweet to hot and pucker up. Oh, yeah, they also serve salads(yawn). ;) Some personal fav burgs are the«Kevin Bacon» w/blue cheese. [That dude really is separated by six degrees of everyone and everything.] If I’m feeling not particularly«meaty» I’ll go for the Lots-of-Shroom w/Swiss — no explanation needed. The Southern Comfort is truly that: topped with cheddar, bbq sauce, and fried green tomatoes. Come to mama! And the Spicy Goat with goat cheese, BACON, and a just right spice smoky chipotle sauce definitely deserves an A+ in my book. [I am now actually beginning to salivate.] Juicy, passes the drip down arm test, tasty combos, inventive, GOOD. The«game meats» are great for adventurous eaters like myself, and offer much leaner options. Bison and Ostrich are at the top of list. NOTE: TRBC cooks all patties to mid-well, unless otherwise instructed. I am REALLY picky about burgers. I’m not a huge fan of ground meats, so when I indulge in a burger it better be a good one(the tiniest bit of gristle or weirdness and I am done… period). Unlike a great cut of steak(slap it on the ass), I will typically order a beef burger a little more done(say mid– well); however, most game meats have very little fat content so I would advise to ask TRBC to cook to about medium to avoid drying out the meat. The shakes aren’t too shabby either. Try a float that includes house-made root beer. Yum in the tum! As if you needed any more incentive to nosh here, this North Austin locale has a putt-putt gulf area(part used be an old drive-thru), classic Caddyshack themed interior, and a fairly large patio with pergola/bar for outdoor seating. Fun, fun, and grub, grub! I will gladly Hop over the line at Doddy and find a more superior burger here any day. «Last time I saw a mouth like that it had a hook in it» — R. You all know i’m always on the lookout for a good turkey/ground chicken burger and I came to this place with high hopes… I saw a poster that stated this joint was better than Hopdoddys… eh…NO. Its a cute spot and lots of seating, and the staff appeared to be pretty nice. I ordered the turkey on the standard bun they offer and cheddar cheese and lettuce, tomato [on request] and onions, and a side of fries… and a chocolate shake. There was no cray line to deal with but as I ate my lunch, I thought to myself that i’d rather deal with a line for tasty than no line for bland… bland is the word for the day regarding this meal… bland meat… bland shake… just bland bland bland… no fireworks and explosion of yummie burger goodness in my mouth.dangit. Now the bar and putt putt golf they have outside is brilliant. Brittany the bartender was bubbly, engaging and very pleasant. I dig the whole outside tiki style bar, felt like I was on vacation somewheres… now if they could just get those burgers seasoned properly and instead of those boring frozen fries and replace with some lovely fresh cut ones they may be worth another visit… and the $$ they charge… till then. the search continues.

Hubs and I have loved Twisted Root Burger Co. since our visit to their first one in Dallas. I’m excited we get to share it with Austin now. Quincy is the founder and a funny, delightful guy. I’ve never been to the Dallas location without seeing Quincy there, working behind the counter just like the others. Cracking jokes. Greeting visitors. He is the magic behind the restaurant along with two other corporate cooks who ventured out years ago to start their own food business. This Austin location seems to have the same fun atmosphere. Our order name was«Vincent Chase». You know, that Entourage dude? I wanted Miss Piggy because I felt exactly like her while stuffing my «Kevin Bacon» Burger with a GF bun into my mouth along with a big pile of sweet potato fries.

What happens in Dallas should stay in Dallas. I gave up a potential Shack Burger to try out the new Twisted Root in town and I am not happy I did. The good: –All burgers are a half pound, and most are about $ 9 –Pickle bar! Unlimited pickles in lots of flavors – sweet & spicy, bread & butter, super spicy, ranch, and dill. I’m a pickle freak so this accounts for the two stars. The bad: –The burger was like the homemade burger your uncle makes at the Memorial Day BBQ. Not inedible, but also not seasoned too well, a little tough, not terribly moist… Except at Twisted Root you don’t have the good company or sand volleyball or unlimited beer to compensate for the bad burger. –The fries are frozen, but I am also a fry freak so I don’t even discriminate against frozen ones. You can get two toppings on your fries, so we chose bacon and hatch green chilies. The«green chilies» were canned and not hatch. They were totally flavorless and so wet that they made the whole order of fries a bland soggy mess. –The drinks are… weird. They have an off-brand soda machine with Root Beer, Pistachio Root Beer(yes you read right), and Berry Lemonade. All were undrinkable. Went for the iced tea, but they only had watermelon sweet tea. Dallas is in Texas. You should at least have regular sweet tea. –Fried pickles weren’t totally bad, but they were chips instead of spears and very salty. –The stupid names! All you will hear throughout your entire meal is MADONNA! DAVYCROCKETT! KHLOEKARDASHIAN! PANCHOVILLA! GWENSTEFANI! It never ends. The first Twisted Root failed(was located in West Campus and closed after mere months) and I suspect this one will too.

Fun burger place blaring 70s and 80s music. Staff is super friendly and checked on tables often. I had a salad with yummy bacon ranch and a bunless burger. No doubt this place will do well but my burger was a little underwhelming and underseasoned– a little grey. I like carmelized meat with crispy edges as one gets at Phil’s. Nice selection of sauces, pickles and as a North Texas girl I like the sweet BBQ sauce.

I’ve been here twice now. My first time was good and I left feeling incomplete. I went the second time figured out what was missing and definitely enjoyed the second visit. My first visit I had the Big Tex burger on a wheat bun and my incompleteness was due to the bun. It was dry. Everything was pretty tasty in the burger but the missing component was a good bun. Big Tex burger had cheddar cheese, guacamole, fried onion strings & chipotle sauce. All the flavors and texture worked nicely together. I was so excited to see Fried Pork Skins on the menu. I am not ashamed to say that I love me come chicharones! I heard they had in house made Root Beer so I definitely had to get some of that. On the second visit. I went with the Ranch Hand Turkey burger — house-made peppercorn ranch, bacon & aged swiss. You have your choice of beef, turkey, veggie or your choice of exotic meats. Two people in my party wanted to get Emu and Camel but they did not have their exotic meats in yet. Guess what else I got… Fried Pork Skins and Root Beer! They have a pretty awesome pickle bar. The bread and butter pickles are legit. On my second visit they had Hidden Valley Ranch Pickles! *Mind Blown* These were a delicious snack before our burger got called out and they were more delish on my burger! Ranch pickles on the Ranch Hand burger. OMG! Service is decent and quick. It’s counter service so you place your order, they give you a celebrity name and they’ll call that out when your food is ready. Even on a Saturday evening it wasn’t too bad. I know there are a plethora of burger places — sit down, counter service, fancy, casual, fast food the list goes on and on. Twisted Root should go in your burger rotation. They have non traditional fried side items, a great pickle bar and creative burger combinations.
