Thanks Phillip B. and Alicia K. for hosting this UYE! I recently started a love affair with Korean food and this event was the perfect way to explore both Korean and Vietnamese fare. Hana World, 123 Noodles and Yoree were all firsts for me. Phillip was kind enough to order a generous amount of his favorites from both 123 Noodles and Yoree which allowed the Unilocal crew to taste many dishes in one sitting. Nam from 123 Noodles hooked the table up with pork wontons and personally introduced each dish. The feast included savory beef and pork bulgogi, pork wontons, fragrant soups, fresh Vietnamese spring rolls, kimchi, kimchi pancake, #9 with glass noodels(123) and several more dishes. Nam pointed out Phillip’s favorite was #3 which was Hu Tieu, a dish of delicious broth/sauce, fresh veggies, cilantro, onions, sprouts, lime, jalapeño shrimp and quail eggs. Everything was so delicious but if I had to choose the pork from Yoree, kimchi pancake from Yoree and 123 Noodles’ Hu Tieu were my favorites. Phillip also brought dessert, a shot of Honey Jim Beam! I ended the event with a trip to Hana World and purchased a couple jars of kimchi and a bottle of soju. Thanks Phillip B., Alicia K., Nam and the staff at Yoree for expanding my palate and introducing some delicious new to me dishes. It was equally great catching up with everyone.

Top Ten Reasons why this was a wonderful UYE: 10. There was literally a ton of food at this event. 9. Yoree &123 Noodles went all out & knew who we were. 8. Forks? We don’t need no steekin’ forks. 7 Karen Camaro-ed up from San Antonio for this affair. 6. Ardie thought DeLea was cool. Dunno what DeLea thought. 5. Jeez, what was Erica’s friend’s name? Aveek? 4. Alicia & Cory timed their departure with my arrival. I notice stuff like that. 3. Phillip brought booze. I didn’t see Chiqui. What are«toothpix?» 2. Seriously, who doesn’t love Amy D? 1. The best post-lube from a Grubbin’ & Chillin’ at Hana World Market was to stroll next door to Teapioca because Phillip & DeLea had never had Boba Tea before, and now they have. I’m pretty sure their lives are complete.

When I was at the Outback event I overheard Alicia K. recommending Hana to someone. Of course my nosy ass chimed in and seconded her recommendation. I said to her that night that we should do a UYE at Hana. She said she’d be interested for sure. Like Babs and Kristofferson, a star was born. Alicia and I co-hosted the event. Several Unilocalers turned out(thank you all), and, we made sure food was in abundance! Plenty to go around. For this UYE I wanted it to be really special, something that would make people leave with a smile. I picked up some Honey Jim Beam shots for the end toast, Slainte! I got there a bit early and talked with my boy Nam at 123. I told him what was going down, and, he literally took over! WOW! He and the folks at 123 rocked it! 123 also donated the pork wontons for the event! Nam personally brought each dish to the table and introduced it! He gets 10 stars alone! Perfect job bro! Thank you 123!!! Next, I went over to one of the best places in town for Korean food, Yoree. I told them what was up. They were equally helpful, but, didn’t want active involvement. No worries. All of the food was delicious, and, everyone enjoyed themselves! To date, this was the best of any UYE I have hosted or co-hosted!!! It was perfect! I am so appreciative to each and everyone of you that came! And I made some new friends! Slainte Mhaith!!! P. S. Is it considered«conceited» if you review your own event?
