Bottom Line: Starting powerformer classes at VBodies was the best decision I’ve made for my health/fitness in years. Here are just a few of the things I love about this studio: 1. Matthew, the owner and main instructor, is extremely knowledgeable and gets results quickly. Work-outs are hard, but they are also super precise. I’ve taken mat pilates classes elsewhere, but I didn’t realize until I started at VBodies that I was doing tons of exercises incorrectly because I was compensating for weaknesses. Using the powerformer allows you to target your weakest muscles, but still maintain perfect form. 2. With a max of 3 people in a class(which is about half the size of most reformer classes that I looked at in Austin) you get tons of personal attention. Seriously, Matthew pays so much attention to everybody’s posture and technique that even with three people in the class it’s like you’re getting a personal training session for a fraction of the price. 3. Unlike a lot of exercise classes I’ve been to, classes are constantly changing and are FUN! I’ve done yoga, running teams, gym workouts, personal training, boot camps, etc. and haven’t been able to stick with any of them for very long. But, the powerformer classes here make it easy to keep coming back. They incorporate classic pilates, barre, and personal training techniques. I’m one of those people who is usually constantly looking at the clock when working out. Here, time flies and I leave class feeling like I’ve worked out hard but am still energized. 4. The workouts seem to be pretty adaptable and hold benefits for everybody, regardless of fitness level. You’ll see men, women, young, old, the super-fit and the not-so fit, all in a class here, and everyone has been welcoming. I’ve always considered myself a pretty active person, but when I started, I was out of shape from years at my desk job and having two kids. I had chronic back pain, and a hip injury that my chiropractor, orthopedist, and physical therapist all couldn’t get a handle on. My chiropractor recommended that I come see Matthew to strengthen my core. After 4 weeks of consistent workouts at VBodies, my back/hip pain was gone and I felt more fit than I had been in years. In fact, my husband just told me(after 3 months) that my abs are stronger than he’s ever seen them. I wish I had found VBodies earlier!

Fabulous workout, superb instructor – Matthew gives focused and precise attention to your alignment, patterning, and balanced technique during the workouts he runs. I was told I needed spine surgery and instead went to him to try to fix the multiple problems through core strengthening Pilates and weight training. He has literally saved me from the OR; now my surgeon says for me to simply keep doing what I’m doing, and thus avoid the scalpel. I can’t recommend VBodies highly enough!

I would consider myself an in shape 23 year old. My whole life I’ve been doing weight training and it has caused me major shoulder problems. I currently have a torn labrum which makes training rather difficult. The machine Matt has created(the Powerformer) allows me to continue to train with this injury and even put on SIZE. V Bodies is not your typical Pilates, with the weight stack attached it draws appeal to both MEN and WOMEN. V Bodies is great for ALL people not just people that are recovering from injuries. I’ve seen my stomach transform under the care of Matt. This is definitely a FIVE star workout!

I have nothing but great things to say about Matt @ V Bodies! It’s an excellent combination of pilates and weight lifting. If you are trying to strengthen your core, this is the perfect place to achieve that goal. Also, the Power Former is without a doubt, the best workout«machine» I have ever used. I’ve danced since the age of three, have worked for a national dance company for 15 years as an instructor, choreographer, and adjudicator, am a former NFL Cheerleader and Captain, and an NBA and NFL choreographer. I have also practiced yoga(Baptiste and Sridaiva) for two years going 4 — 6 times a week. I’ve had one foot and two knee surgeries as a result of dance injuries and also have scoliosis. I shared with Matt that I’ve had lower back pain on my left side and left hip pain almost a year and a half and despite seeing three chiropractors, massage therapists, and a PT, the pain had gotten worse in the past three months. I was at the point where I could barely perform dance movements full out, I was falling asleep in pain every night, I wasn’t able to practice yoga regularly, and trying to stand up from the couch after a long day was painful. Matt was pretty confident that he could«fix me» in just a few visits to V Bodies with work on his Power Reformer. In my head I thought, «That would be really nice, but I’m sure it’s not going to be easy.» I decided to make the drive from San Antonio to Austin and give it a shot because I felt like Matt knew his stuff. His degree and multiple certifications made me feel confident that he understands the body, and his background in working with dancers was reassuring. Dancers have a unique awareness of their body and high standards when it comes to allowing someone to work with our muscles. I want someone to be able to explain to me what is wrong, how to fix it and why that method will work. Matt’s background made me think he could give me all of that information. When I arrived he immediately looked at my hips and noticed my right was lower and he thought that could stem from something in my foot since my right foot looked different than my left. Bingo… I had surgery on my right foot. I loved the fact that he was connecting how your feet impact the rest of your body as this is something I’ve studied in yoga and fully believe in. We went through more of an assessment phase and got straight to work on the reformer. I’ll be honest, some of the work on the reformer was hard, but a lot of it felt SO good. I was able to stretch and activates areas in my hip, glutes, and hamstrings that I have not been able to do in yoga, massage therapy, and PT. I left the one hour session a tad sore, but the kind of sore where you feel like you’ve made a difference. I went home that night and for the first time in over a year, I fell asleep without pain in my hip. It’s been three days and I haven’t had any pain in my hip and my lower back pain is a 1 on the scale of 1 – 10. I feel light and strong… but most importantly, I feel like I’m on the right track and confident that I’ll be able to get back to to normal active lifestyle after one more session. My recommendation to anyone thinking about going to V Bodies is to be open minded, give it a try, don’t be afraid to tell Matt your trouble spots and then trust him to guide you. He knows his stuff:)

10 stars! Matt is a GENIUS when it comes to the human form! I love the combination of pilates and weight training you get with his workouts. My body is completely transformed and I feel healthier, happier, stronger, and more aware of my body thanks to Matt. Matt brings you to a dripping sweat in less than half an hour with no knee pain or back pain :-) The class Def pumps you out and you will be sore the next day, but not injured. I loved Matt energy and positivity. Take this class you will be doing your body a favor!
