This is a great place to relax. Pull up a bar chair, order up a drink and have a conversation with a patriot. Great stories, great people and friendly atmosphere… Except for«that one grumpy old vet» who will eventually warm up to you after you’ve been there a couple of times. This place is not just for vets. Friends of Vets are welcome too. There is always something going on during the weekends and if not there’s always someone to talk too. No smoking inside but there is a patio if that is what you wish to do. Pool table, cards, electronic slots, large hall for meeting and parties.

I’ve been in my fair share of veteran establishments but I will say that this one is the most active. Open every day and you can find someone at the bar at all times. Either it’s a friendly bartender or someone with a story to tell you will be around like-minded people. In the past you had to be a member of the VFW to get in but now they have the Friends of the VFW and all are welcome.

I’ve lived literally 5 minutes away from this post for over four years… and I just visited for the first time. I really wish I had come here MUCH earlier! If you aren’t familiar with the VFW, it’s a fraternal organization for veterans who have served in a combat theater. It was originally founded for vets to be able to get away from the general public and connect with other vets. They have since begun welcoming the general public when accompanied by a VFW member. I am a proud lifetime member, but my home post was in Germany. So, I came here to check it out and see about transferring my membership. I think everyone has a general idea of what they THINK the VFW would be like… and chances are, they would be completely correct! There is a canteen inside that has a full bar, pool table, dart, shuffle board, and various other activities. The hall also has meeting rooms, offices, kitchen… etc. The décor is far from modern. The grounds of post 8787 has a small race track, some green space, and a large deck. The jukebox is playing anything from oldies to blues and country. At this post… I am the youngster! The people here are friendly and engaging. The Ladies Auxiliary is the first to greet me and we have some great conversations. A few beers in I finally realize something… I realize that THIS is what I’ve been looking for. I’ve finally found my community. This place feels like home and I look forward to spending a lot of time here. Be nice to me… maybe I’ll let you tag along sometime…:)
