As a foster parent, I was limited with my choices of where my kids could go see a dentist due to Medicaid. We ended up with Weaver who was not my first choice but this was the best we could come up with. They do not allow you back with your child if they are older because they want to be sure they can handle going under anesthesia if necessary. I’m not a fan of allowing my child to walk off with strangers. Due to TxHealthSteps requirements my baby was required to go at 6 months old and then again at 9 months. They are on the verge of committing Medicaid fraud by trying and insisting that my baby come back for her 9 month appointment within 54 days of her last appointment. Who really wants to take a baby to a dental appointment when she has 0 teeth? I refused to schedule her until her 9 month appointment and then they proceeded again to try to schedule her within the 54 days instead of by her one year due date. After the kids were returned to their parents, the receptionist called to remind me of an appointment. I informed her that the kids were no longer in my care and provided her with the parents contact information. The same receptionist calls the very next day and the first thing out of her mouth is «oh you are not the mother anymore». Yes these children are no longer in my care but this is highly inappropriate and unnecessary to say. There were many different options of what she could have said. If you are in the same predicament as I was with trying to find a good dentist who accepts Medicaid, don’t go with Weaver. He was fine. But his office staff is awful and the office itself is a bit scary with a giant clown helium tank in the back.

If I could leave less than a star I would. This is a PEDIATRIC dentist office. This dentists office has a policy that parents cannot accompany children into the exams. I find this creepy and weird, and had asked previously about how they handle kids who were averse to the exam. I was assured they only used restraints as a last resort — why even use restraints if having a parent in the room could avoid that scenario? My two older children I was confident could handle it alone. However my youngest has pretty involved special needs. I have taken my two older kids for cleanings with Dr Weaver several times and they were fine. I’m loathe to have more than one dr for all the kids if I can help it, so have started looking for a dentist who will see my child and allow me to be in the room. Dr Weaver’s office called this morning as I was making calls to other dentists and I asked about attending my youngest’s exam with him. She said they really do not allow it. HOWEVER I COULDPAY A $ 48FEE to attend the exam with my son. How screwed up is that??? I told them I would never be back, to NEVEREVERCALLMEAGAIN about scheduling annuals, and that I would let everyone I know know about this ridiculous and counterproductive«policy.» Because the scenario with my youngest would be this: they would have to use restraints if I wasn’t allowed to be with him. And my son has anxiety and aversion when it comes to medical anything as a result of the many hospital stays and procedures he has experienced. What a cruel and heartless policy such as this is doing in a pediatric dentist’s office I will NEVERUNDERSTAND. ***I spoke with another dentists office who was shocked when I asked about the«pay to attend the exam policy» and they encouraged me to call the dental board and my insurance company. So I will be doing that as well.
