West End Grooming

I absolutely love West End Grooming. I’ve taken my dog for 12 years to Fran and she does a great job. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating to my little guy and to me as well. I really appreciate their hard work. They have consistently done a great job for me for several years.

The groomers at West End Grooming always make my giant schnauzer look like a million bucks. They do an amazing job of grooming her face, and it always looks perfect, based on the photos I bring in. They keep notes on the style in their files.
I appreciate that they are willing to work with such a large young dog. I think what we pay is extremely fair, too.

I cannot say enough good things about this place. I have taken my dog there for 7 years and they are kind and I can tell they take good care of him each time. Now that he’s older and has a heart condition, they really help me to get him in and out without his stress level sky rocketing. I would recommend them to anyone!

LOVE WEST END! I just picked up my 2 standards from West End for their bi-​weekly grooming. We have been going there for a good 2 – 3 years and look forward to our visits with Fran, Kit, Ann and Joey. Our 14 ½ year old long-​haired dachshund passed away earlier this year and I received the longest, most heart-​felt note from them after he died. They love my dogs like they were their own and we regularly get asked where our poodles are groomed because they are so handsome!!! It’s a gem.

After 7 hours in waiting – they disregarded the 1 request to leave a tiger mane, PLUS nicked her belly in 2 places, as in scraped. Spoke with manager but no guarantee for next time. Think they were simply too busy, we arrived at opening and were next to last to leave. Will not be back. Is there SPCA to report cruelty to dogs???

I use to work at West End Grooming and I did not leave on good terms but I would like to express my frustration with a review on here about the groomer Ann. Is that review even for real? I was a groomer for years and can only imagine how matted these dogs actually were especially seeing as on 7÷18÷2014 this person wrote a review about Dirty Dog saying they charged her over $ 1000 to demat the dogs. 6 months later and the dogs that were «shaved down to the skin» by the woman she refers to as a pig are matted once again? I find this review heartless because my time working with Ann she was a very sweet and compassionate person that wanted to be a great groomer and from what I have seen from the pictures on the website she has done just that. I know that in the service industry you will not be liked by everyone but when it comes to public name calling I find that down right rude and it speaks volumes about the person throwing out the insults.

Kit and Fran are the BEST!!! My family and friends have been taking their dogs there for years now and they ALWAYS have the pet’s best interest at hand. Their whole staff is extremely professional and caring. I highly recommend West End Grooming for all Austinites.

Horrific customer service. These people need to behave like decent human beings. Do not give them your business.

Hi there! I have been taking Snowy here for two years (maybe more). A friend who lives nearby recommended it. We have a Bichon Frise and there is a particular cut that other groomers in Austin just didn’t seem to ‘get.’ Snowy suffered an embarrassing «poodle cut» for a year before we found this place. He loves it! Because he doesn’t like to be crated and tends to step in water bowls and ruin his beautiful new ‘dos, the accommodating folks at this facility came up with the plan to call us 15 minutes before he was due to be finished, so that we could get him hot off the grooming stand, avoiding the inevitable «uh-​oh» which required a blow-​dry and comb-​out. I really thought that was a caring thing to do for a little dog who doesn’t really understand what’s going on. They just came up with a solution. A few times, we have forgotten our monthly appointment date and they have always been very forgiving. I like not being scolded by my service provider! I try to be respectful of their time and we like to tip our groomer to make up for any of those awkward forgetful moments. Now that we are on a solid schedule (also their idea), we are doing much better with making appointments. Snowy loves it here. There is the usual collection of dogs running around (all friendly) and really sweet, mellow people. I am very, very happy I found West End Grooming and heartily recommend it. But first you have to find it! It isn’t actually on Guadalupe (the entrance is on Fruth around the corner). Look for the groovy graphics! Thanks West End!

Just took my dog to West End for the first time to get her nails trimmed. They put her on the grooming table and slipped a rope around her neck to keep her in place. The groomer stepped away for a second, and my dog stepped off the table. She was hanging in the air with a rope around her neck for a second or so. The groomer then saw her and put her back on the table.
My dog appears to be fine, but this is so incredibly ridiculous. My dog was literally being hung by her neck. There is a window into the grooming room, so I saw it all happen.
I can’t understand how a professional dog groomer could let a dog hang suspended in the air with a rope around her neck.

I love this place great staff and good service we don’t use them anymore because we had to put our dog Murphy to sleep but If we ever get another dog I will choose West End Grooming

I should have NEVER trusted West End when the person coming to pick up my dog was over AN HOUR LATE.
Then instead of apologizing, this lowlife Ann stood in my home and threatened to shave my poodles because they had mats. I said no — that we are thinking of cording them anyway and I don’t want them to be cut less and an inch long. I made it very clear IN WRITING that I did NOT want them cut short.
Ann brought the puppies back — 30 minutes late — and they were SHAVED BALD.
She is so lazy and evil that she even knicked them. And she CUT OFF THEIR EYELASHES.
SHE IS THE WORST DOG GROOMER ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET. SHE ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED MY DOGS.
Yes, my perfect, beautiful poodles are bald.
I’m devastated, both my husband and I were so sick we couldn’t leave the house for over 24 hours. In fact, it’s so bad that WE’RE EMBARASSED TO LEAVE THE HOUSE WITH THE DOGS LOOKING THIS TERRIBLE.
Then I made sure Ann knew NOT to fluff and comb them. She gave them both 4 inch mowhawks and fluffed them like crazy.
This has been the WORST EXPERIENCE IN AUSTIN I’VE EVER HAD.
Then this animal of a woman decided to show up at my door with the skeletal poodles and decided to throw a garbage back of their hair IN MY HALLWAY and angrily told us we should be grateful that she shaved them.
She was rude to my husband. He had to ask her to leave our house three times. I stood and wept and she was just nasty to us.
The concierge at my building said she was nasty to them too.
Plus– we have it in WRITING that we did NOT want them shaved.
Plus– she fudged up cutting their faces and actually chopped CHUNKS of hair off in random places. I’m embarrassed to walk them!
I should have gone with my intuition when this pig showed up at my house with her pajamas on over an hour late.
I’m so sick I think I’m going to throw up.
THEY DESTROYED MY DOGS AND IT WILL TAKE OVER A YEAR OR MORE TO GROW BACK.
If I could have called the police I would. Frankly — I want to sue these animals for destroying my poodles.
This pig didn’t even call me to warn me. She just showed up.
I’M DEVASTATED. THIS COMPANY SHOULD GO OUT OF BUSINESS FOR SUCH A MISERABLE SERVICE AND AN IRREPARABLE VIOLATION OF MY TRUST.
I cried for hours.
This absolutely unqualified pig destroyed my puppies for a very long time.
WHAT A DEVASTATION.

This weekend somebody named Ann absolutely hacked to death my beautiful poodle puppies precious coats.
I had expressed to Ann over and over that I didn’t want her to SHEER my poodles. I also have this *in writing* with email correspondence.
Not only did she sheer them so bald that their skin is showing, but she knicked up their bodies, cut off their eyelashes, and removed the tail from one of them.
I will need to speak with somebody who owns West End Grooming immediately about this tragedy.
I am also considering legal retribution for what Ann did.
I should have known when she was over an hour late for our appointment that she wasn’t to be trusted.

West End Grooming’s laziness and lack of care has cost me hours of concern and countless tears.

Wow — the West End Grooming staff person who answered the phone literally hung up on me mid-​sentence! When I called back to try to re-​initiate the conversation, her blatant irritation and sarcasm was a little too much for me to ever consider giving this place my business.. hysterical!

Westend is quite the place!
My dogs have never liked getting baths (from me), but they do LOVE spa day. I swear they know when they’re supposed to go. They line up at the door and bark at me.
The part I like best is that I can drop them off before work and pick them up after work. No hassle about getting them in the middle of the day — scheduling is sooooo much easier that way.
Of course, they’re clean and cuddly when I get them back. After their day of excitement with the other dogs and the great staff at Westend, they just want to cuddle and take a nap when we get home.

I’ve been taking my Goldies to West End for over 15 years. I wouldn’t consider taking them anywhere else. They’ve always done a great job, and best of all, genuinely like animals.

I take my bud for grooming once every two months or so. He was a shelter dog and when I got him he had matts the size of baseballs. West End was recommended to me by a friend and they got him in right away. I didn’t even recognize him when I picked him up the first time! It’s been over a year and WE is still my first choice for grooming.
The staff is always very friendly and they are always excited to see Henry. He loves going and he gets a walk. And I get a free day! He looks beautiful every time I pick him up and the freshness definitely lasts a lot longer than if I did it myself.
My only qualm is that it is pricey. It definitely costs more than my own haircut, and I only do that twice a year! But I’d say it’s worth it for how happy it makes us both.

I’ve taken my pups to West End for years now– through 3 locations, at least. And it’s been a generally good experience. My dogs have all been rescues and for the two who needed grooming– I doubt either dog had gone to a groomer more than once before in their lives. West End made grooming a pleasant experience for both my sweet little Cavachon and my admittedly spazzy Bichon Frise. My only problem-​ever– was that my Cavachon became nervous about going to the groomers after a while. My having a major collision en route one morning probably explains that and I’d never hold it against West End. In fact, they were able to settle her down and give her a somewhat normal day for her. But she never wanted to go back to the 24^th Street location so I had to find another groomer to fill in for a time.
I’ll admit that all I ever ask for is a pretty basic cut with perhaps very closely trimmed paws (better for burr avoidance). But they’ve done what I’ve wanted each time and called when they said they would for pup pickup and at a reasonable price. There’s not much more that I need– neither was a show dog– so I’m perfectly happy with their service. Oh– and this may seem silly but it’s not the norm for all groomers– the dogs get a walk during their spa day. That I find very important for all involved!
Are they tricky to find right now? Not really, with the directions on their website. I’m just happy that I could park easily. And that they’re still the same great folks after moving all over the West Campus area.

Good luck finding the entrance. As a first time customer and having spoken to them by phone twice, no one ever told me that their address on Guadalupe does not at all describe the location of the business. In tiny letters at the bottom of their home page it does say entrance on Fruth St. You would think they would be more interested in people finding their entrance.
I spoke with them twice about getting a trip for my Great Pyrenees. I emphasized no shave, just a trip and thinning to keep the natural shape of the Pyrenees coat. When I arrived they insisted on cutting her with electric clippers. When I explained again, what I wanted she said it was labor intensive and would cost over $ 100 and she wasn’t willing to do it (even though I had no problem with paying that price or more).
Unless you want a fast standard cut so they caqn fit in as many dogs as possible without taking too much of their time, I would not recommend this place.

IMPORTANT: Directions on How To Find West End Grooming:
–Head North on Guadalupe. University of Texas should be in your rear view mirror (obviously if you are heading South then UT will be ahead of your direction).
–Turn right on 34^th Street (Left if you are coming South down Guadalupe)
–Go down a bit and turn left on Fruth. West End Grooming will be on the left and has a large parking lot for you to park in.
Their address is Guadalupe because they share the same building as Anytime Fitness which faces Guadalupe. However, since West End Grooming is in the back of the building you have to turn on 34^th then turn on Fruth to get access.
I love the prices they charged to get my dog groomed. As for the rest of the experience I will go straight to the source and turn things over to my dog, Dolly who is a 2 year old apricot colored cockapoo:

«Well, I must say when I saw the other dogs entering the building I got pretty excited. I love going to popular places with other dogs like me. One of the dogs entering was a poodle and since I am part poodle I had to give a special nod and woof to my clan. She however did not reciprocate and gave me a rather stern look. After a few minutes of standing together to get checked in she seemed to warm up to me. I think down the road we will best BFF’s. Anywho, I digress…
At first I was a bit concerned when I saw my mommy leaving me with these new, strange people. Who were these people?! I was put into a kennel. I waited. It wasn’t too long thereafter that I found myself in a bath with lots of soap and bubbles. I was in Heaven! Baths are my favorite things. I was carefully and expertly trimmed including my ears and eyes which give me trouble sometimes. I felt so much better! I don’t know what kind of shampoo they use but my fur has never felt so clean and soft, not greasy at all. The owner was so nice to me – I have been to many groomers and I can tell she really cares and that she loved me. She even told my mommy that I did such a great job during my bath and blow dry.
I tried to break into one of the bags of dog food on the way out. I just couldn’t help myself. There were so many delicious options to choose from here. Unfortunately I got caught and scolded by my mommy. Don’t worry though, scolding does nothing for me. I test boundaries all the time and get scolded in return all the time. I guess you could say I am kinda a Lost Cause in some regards, but nonetheless a loving one at that and thanks to West End Grooming I am clean and happy. I cannot wait to go back!»

I had a very bad experience with West End Grooming. I’m still sick to my stomach every time I look at my poor dog. I have a maltese/​poodle mix, mostly poodle. Her hair was real long and beginning to matt up. i’m used to getting her shaved short every 6 months or so. This was my first visit to West End. I don’t know what those people did to her, but the dog is totally traumatized. The hair on her ears was long. Its always been long, so image my confusion when they brought her out and all the hair on her ears was shaved. Why? She looks awful, and she knows it. She’s been crying and pacing for hours. They made no attempt to give her any kind cut. They just flat out shaved her clean – ALL OVER.
Whoever groomed her, shaved and cut on her so hard she’s still uncomfortable, hours later. When I went to pick her up, they had the nerve to tell me she was anxious and nervous – like it was the dog’s fault they don’t know how to groom a dog
What made me decide to post this was the fleas. My dog never had fleas. I treat her regularly. So why does she now have fleas? When I noticed the fleas I gave her a good hard sniff to see if they’d even bathed her. Stinky dog smell. Jeez.
It will take a year for the hair on my dog’s ears to grow out to what it should be. I made the mistake of thinking professional dog groomers know how to take a scruffy dog and give her a cute haircut. Well, these folks don’t. Their idea of grooming a scruffy dog is to shave everything off. No skills, obviously no affection, and not very clean.
I would not recommend West End Grooming.
