Westdale Creek Apartments

I’ve been living here for the past year. Generally, the reviews here are mostly correct. I haven’t experienced mold, but wouldn’t be surprised if there was some I’m not seeing. The apartments in this area are mostly older complexes which have been around since the 70s, so these places have seen a fair share of tenants and weathering.
If you don’t get an updated unit, then prepare for older appliances, pretty awful cabinetry, and that terrible popcorn celings. On top of this all, the windows are single paned and doors can be drafty (so prepare for higher than average cooling/​heating costs).
The pros here: The location is pretty good, super close access to mopac. The area is very quiet, most residents here are quiet and respectful. The apartments are somewhat large, maintenance (at least for me) has been pretty prompt, and they live on site in case of emergencies. There is plenty of shade for parking (lots of trees) and the pool area is pretty decent.
Cons: I’ve had a rat problem before (as with most every other resident). These units are old, we’re situated next to a retention pond and the wildlife is plenty, so don’t be surprised of a rat if you see one. The older units are pretty ugly (popcorn ceilings everywhere) & they’re not well insulated. You’re not dealing with a landlord, you’re dealing with a large company, so don’t be shocked if you rent goes up every time you renew. The exterior of this place is pretty bad, it’s just a ton of rocks (great place to twist an ankle if you ask me).
Bottom line: I think the office staff are doing a good job overall, as well as the maintenance crew. If anything (and I’m assuming for the quick turnarounds of office managers) is the company Westdale itself. I’ve heard numerous complaints about them, and they’re just churning profits by overcharging poor places to live.
If you can live with these things, then go for it. If you can’t look elsewhere. Honestly, this whole area of older apartments will have similar issues like this apartment community. So, look in another part of town if these are deal-​breakers for you.

can i give zero stars? literally hell on earth; should be demolished… if it doesn’t crumble in upon itself before then.
have been wary of leaving a Unilocal review since I still live here. living here for two years now has helped me to completely give up on any hope or form of standards for my own personal life… but I still see young kids touring this place, looking for a cool new apartments to live their still fun, vibrant life.

this place is a terrible dump with mold, rats, bugs, water damage, incompetent office managers and even more clueless maintenance people. I think I have black mold growing in my lungs. honestly cannot say enough bad things. not even any overhead lighting for Christs sake.
only bad things, bad health, depression, apathy and anger can come from living in this giant turd complex known as westdale creek.

Don’t live here! Just stop, seriously, don’t move into this complex. There are rats, the tenants suck and management is garbage.
My husband and I moved into this apartment complex from Washington, DC when I came back for grad school. The complex is well-​situated, is in a nice neighborhood and is very convenient to the Far West UT shuttle. Additionally, it was pretty cheap and the apartment was nice when we moved in.
We moved in in August and by Labor Day the situation was spiraling out of control. During Labor Day weekend we noticed that we had a new room mate who would scamper across the floor from our kitchen and disappear into our bedroom every night around 10. While we were asleep he would make his little doodies ALL over the living room and then go back to whatever ungodly rat hell he was from. I called management, but since it was the holiday nothing could be done. So we waited for 3 long days waking up to rat poos every morning and seeing the dude run into our bedroom every night. I’m not terribly fond of rodents and management didn’t really seem to care. Pest control comes at the end of the week, wait until then. Finally the end of the week comes and pest control broke up the kitchen and found a friggin’ NEST under our sink floorboards. They dealt with that (rather grotesquely) and left. Problem solved!
Nope. It was 2 weeks max before another one was in the apartment. We called management again and this time the property handyman came to calk possible entry points. Another few days go by and boom, rat’s back. By this point I’ve started wrapping the kitchen fixtures in foil trying to cover up possible entry points and we’ve started setting our own traps. This was also the time when I started sending notarized letters to the front office directing them to either get rid of the rats or let us move. After the 3^rd round of calking the problem was addressed for a while, but I wouldn’t pick up the traps, just in case. Funny story, sometime in February we had a full trap scooting across the kitchen.
Rats are bad, but that wasn’t the half of it. Halfway through our lease we got a shelter dog. She did wonders for the rats but she was (and still is) really not a fan of dogs. We are responsible dog owners and walk her frequently, pick up her refuse and always keep her on a leash. Unfortunately, we were the only people that did. Two case studies. 1) Upstairs neighbors wouldn’t let their dogs out, so they barked and let loose huge pee waterfalls onto our poor bikes below. 2) Neighbor 2 buildings over would take his 2 dogs out without leashes letting them wander all over the parking lot and ripe for the snacking by my dog. We again contacted management about these problems, and nothing was done. Dog pee waterfalls happened more than once, and we had to make sure that stupid neighbor wasn’t out before ever taking the dog out. He did, however, keep his leashes around his neck so I guess management really got to him!
As far as I’m concerned MOST of our problems could have been solved if management wasn’t such a waste of space. They were never sympathetic or apologetic and all they did was lie to us. There are few days I remember more fondly than the day we moved out.

You can tell it’s old apt. So just be prepared, I should have read the other reviews or someone should have written something here earlier.
Management: very unprofessional. I’ve seen 3 managers in the last year. They could be nice and promise something. But after a few times, you know they just won’t do it. Maybe they knew they were leaving soon, so they don’t care, i guess.
Room: old and thin walls. i couldn’t bear the dog scratches from next door. which sounds like in my room!
AC: my bedroom had huge problem with AC, hardly any air. The first time i used my heating, i smelled something like burning dead animal body…
Move out charge: Be prepared if you had to stay there for the location. Prepare a video and detailed pictures of EACH EVERY corner! I hired professional team to clean up and took pictures. I thought i was prepared as i heard what they did to other moved out residents before. But i was not that prepared. They charged me $ 100 for fixing a scratch on the bathtub. The scratch was so minor that i didn’t list when i moved in. I made a big mistake.
Environment: My apartment had a good view of the trees. I liked a lot. Problem is there all kinds of animals. Once there was scratches on my door for about an hour. I saw all kinds of animals in the parking lot before, you name it, i didn’t want to open the door and stuck in the room.(btw, the lighting is not very good overall in the facility)
Neighbors: generally ok, but there is a few crazy ones and party music to midnight. Once i read the reviews, some resident reported there was escort on site… all kinds of nasty stuff.
Conclusion: unless you like the location, stay away or get prepared!

Jerkoff neighbor BROKE INTO MY CAR AND TRASHED IT. The security light was conveniently knocked out after, and it took management a WEEK to fix it, even though they knew my car was vandalized. Management will be more than happy to do something about it if I pay out the nose and give them 2 months notice. DO NOT MOVE TO THIS COMPLEX.

I’ve lived in older apartments before. There are a lot of good ones in Austin, ones that are older than Westdale Creek. My first problem was that my A.C. was broken for about ²⁄₃ of the Summer. Every time somebody would come out to fix it, they would just say, «I don’t know how to fix it». Then out of no where, I had rat holes in my walls. There was rat feces in my closet, all over my clothes and shoes. It was a nightmare. I figured that I could just call them, and they would fix it. That didn’t happen. I’ve called/​emailed/​went to the office, and they act like it is my fault. I have been complaining for THREE MONTHS, and RATS are still chewing through the walls. It is evident that there is more than one rat living in my walls, because I can immediately smell the dead rat as soon as one of them dies. This place is a joke… a disgusting one.
