Wet and Wild Adventure Camp

My child will be going to some W&W camps for his third year in 2015. It was a friend’s recommendation that led me to this camp. He loves going to the Farm with games, pool and a more relaxed day, usually the last day of a very busy & active week of travel, water and play.
I trust the counselor’s with my child’s life every time I leave him and I admire the owners for using negative reviews in training counselors, many who spent years as participants in the camp. Accidents happen, even when children are with family. My child was hurt badly enough to need hospital care when with a grandparent but he was having too much fun & did not tell until he came home & became symptomatic, then we were treated with an ambulance ride. That’s just kids.
So even though my child has asthma and carries an Epi pen due to fireant allergies, I trust this family team of counselors unequivocally. He has built his confidence and made new friends every trip. Since camps are broken down into weekly choices, he can pick the adventures he wants. I love this concept, the active nature of the camps and allowing my child to have adventures I am physically unable to offer.

I don’t like leaving bad reviews, especially local businesses, but I have to since this involves children. My son attended last summer for several weeks and several things happened which are totally unacceptable.
First, they give out paper cups and have a big cooler full of water. Great. However another child took my son’s cup away and my son asked three times for a new cup, only to be told he can only have one. He had no water bottle and it was 100 degrees out. What does any 7 yo do when they are dying of thirst and out in the heat? He leaned over and put his mouth under the spigot (not touching, just underneath). He was immediately screamed at and totally shamed and went over to a corner and cried. They didn’t not give him another cup so he was without water for how knows how long outside in 100 degree heat! (This is all on the private property of the owner’s, which is a little odd to me as well.)
Strike two, he came home on the last day with a huge gash on his calf. It was so bad I took him to the doc to see if it needed stitches. While it didn’t need stitches, it did need butterflies all the way down to keep it closed so it could heal. There is a big white scar running down his leg a year later.
I never heard from ANYONE about either incident and, as a parent, that is beyond unacceptable. I would’ve contacted them myself but had major surgery the next day and was out of commission for a long time.
I use Unilocal reviews to see other’s opinions and I hope this review helps another parent stay far away from a place like this. The field trip parts were fine but there is an obvious disconnect and lack of caring with how things are run.

I attended wet & wild as a kid, and it was some of the best weeks of the summer. I remember going to blue hole watering hole, krause springs, tubing at the comal, and fiesta texas. Each day was something different, and to this day I have remained in touch with some of my camp friends. I know that the camp counselors are certified lifeguards, and Mary and Lucy (the owners) have been running this camp successfully for over 15 years. So if you’ve got little ones and they have the summer boredom blues, I would highly recommend wet & wild.

My kids went to Wet and Wild for three weeks. They went to Schlitterbaun, Fiesta Texas, party boat on Lake Travis, and many other fun places. They swung off rope swings, played basketball, and overall had a blast. At the end of the week they give you a collage of pictures from the week and snippets from what the kids wrote about what they did that day. Lucy and her team do an awesome job.
