William J Dubin, PHD

I went to Dr. Dubin for hypnosis for a bug phobia. The initial intake session is not cheap, but it is worth it. He sits down with you for two hours, with the first hour going over what your issue is and explaining his approach. The second hour is a nice, relaxing hypnosis session.
Dr. Dubin’s specialty is addiction, but his knowledge and psychological approach is also very good for phobias and anxiety. He really works with you to «train the puppy» — as he calls your out of control mind/​emotions. He uses a cognitive-​behavioral approach — no drugs (a plus!) — which is a very grounded, self-​directed approach that focuses on giving you control over yourself instead of being a victim to your own emotions. This approach may not be for everyone, and it’s not «touchy feely,» but I really felt just one session helped me tremendously.
He is also an ‘existential psychotherapist.” This is interesting to me. I am actually not much of an existentialist, as I’m a spiritual person, but I feel he has some new perspectives to offer. He does encourage the use of «mindfulness» techniques such as meditation as a method of controlling the mind. For those who really want a God-​directed spiritual approach, however, they may want someone else who focuses on that.
When I was leaving, he gave me a copy of his book and told me what chapter to read, directed me to a number of articles on his website, and told me to email him at any time (no extra charge) to ask questions and share my progress. It’s clear from reading his book that he is an expert in his field and I feel lucky that I found him.

I can’t say enough about how Dr. Dubin helped me these past few weeks. The least I can do is leave reviews out there so people know that they are going to get great, respectful, effective service from him.
I went to Dr. Dubin to be hypnotized for anxiety. I needed to have a medical procedure and was very afraid. It was affecting my life, sleep, work — everything!
My time with Dr. Dubin was worth every penny. He talked to me and got a really great understanding of my situation. The whole time we talked, he kept asking how I was feeling, if I needed to discuss more, if the information was useful, etc. Then, he hypnotized me and it really, REALLY worked. He then sent me home with supplemental materials that I used to help decrease my anxiety over the week before my surgery.
I really think that this was one of the main things that got me in that chair. If I think about how sick I would eventually be if I hadn’t gone through with the procedure, I can’t help but think Dr. Dubin did a lot more for me than just help me relax!
