I’ve been taking my car to Yost for several years, and I wouldn’t bother to write a review if I didn’t really like these guys. I trust them. The last time I was there was due to being rear ended. They made the repairs at a fraction of what the other guy’s insurance estimated. And… when I was about to drive away, one of the guys noticed that I head a headlight out. He grabbed another one and replaced right there at no charge. I have an older car so I’ve been to them several times over the years and I really wouldn’t go anywhere else. :)

Always fair. Always reliable. Have carried me through 2 beaters and kept me going. From the front desk to the all the mechanics (special shout out to Mark) simply superb. If they were doctors I would trust my child’s life with them. When I think about how much time I spend away from Austin now one of my major regrets is being so far from Yosts.
They have fixed brakes, clutch, alternator, leaking oil pan, starter, black death of AC unit from a bad dealer. Never ever let me down or over charged.

It would be really helpful if Yost were open on Saturdays even if it were by appointment only or if the hours were limited. It’s challenging for a working couple to drop off and pick up cars during Yost’s current hours.
Also, the parking area is a nightmare. I understand that rent is probably expensive and they’re boxed in on all sides, but wow. You either have to park in the front and then back out into traffic on Lamar or attempt to squeeze into a tiny spot across from the garage.

I’ve never felt a need to write a Unilocal review, but this auto shop offers unparalleled service. They were able to fix my rear AC within a few hours as I had to leave town that evening. Always accommodating and not looking to swindle you out of your money. Very up front and honest.

These guys are legit. I went there for a tune-​up and they explained every service that was being performed and why and also provided the old parts that were replaced. The pricing was fair too compared to the other repair shops in the area. Would definitely go back.

These guys are great. They are trustworthy and reasonably priced. My family has used them for years. Would not consider going anywhere else.

Highly recommend! Honest and inexpensive

This is THE place to take your car for bodywork. I chose them on a whim after a collision, and it was the best decision. These guys do an amazing job and know the meaning of customer service. Not only are their prices fair, they go out of their way to make sure you’re happy. If you are in a collision, go nowhere else.

Awesome! Everyone here seems genuinely friendly, they seem to like their job, and they seem very honest. I got an oil change, fair price, they didn’t try to sell me on anything else. It took exactly as long as they told me it would. I asked them to check on another issue I was having; they explained what it was and said it wasn’t dire and how soon I should have it fixed and how much it would be, which was also very reasonable. Couldn’t ask for anything more.

Yost is a great place to get your car repairs done. They do good work, are honest and fair with their prices. The folks that work there are friendly. I highly recommend them!

Almost excellent service! Referred by my dad and brother who had their cars worked on here. I had some noise coming from under my car. Dropped off my car for them to look at, was told that it would take 2 hours to get to it. I didn’t hear back from them until the next day after I’ve called a few times, so that was a downfall for them. I didn’t mind it, if only they would just call me and let me know what’s going on (as I had to find rides to work). They might have had an outage, because their phone wasn’t working one of the days. Took 3 days for them to look at it. But when they finally did, they figured out the problem, the price was reasonable as well. They fixed it! The front desk was super nice and helpful, and the car is running very smooth with no noise!
They even followed up with me a few days later to check on the car, what a great business move! 5 points for that:) Highly recommend!

I had a problem with one of my AC blowers. They changed out the wrong one, realized their mistake, and replaced both. They lost a lot of money on my job but they wanted to get it right. I will say I’m a fan of this place. The 4 star review is for making the mistake in the first place. The 4 stars is for doing what it took to keep me and my family cool in the 100+ degree heat.

When I bought my ’97 Corrola on craigslist, Yost checked it over to make sure it was good to go before I put down the cash. Four years later, my car is still chugging along just fine. Their prices are fair, they work quick but thoroughly, and I really would never trust my car to anyone else. Every time I leave, I have a rush of warm fuzzies knowing that my car may live to a sweet, old age.

Just had the front struts replaced. Work done as promised for a fair price. My ride is once again smooth and quiet.

This is the second time I have taken a car to Yost. My daughter’s car was shaking when reaching speeds of 50+, so I called to get an appointment for diagnostics and was in 2 days later. I dropped it at 9am and heard back around 2pm. They had to replace the left front inner and outer tie rod assembly, do a 4 wheel alignment and balance. Total cost was $ 500 which included the diagnostic fee. Car was in and out in 2 days.
I highly recommend Yost. I grew up around mechanics and garages and they are professional, experienced and trustworthy. I never felt rushed or taken advantage of. Everyone I dealt with was awesome! The owner even contacted me a few days later to make sure.

I don’t necessarily love when I have to take the car to the shop, but when I do, I’m glad I can bring it here.
Peter, Michael, and the rest of the crew at Yost have always been very helpful and straightforward with anything we needed. It’s a good place to go for regularly scheduled maintenance, or when you’re thoroughly boned and needing serious repairs.
The addition of Lyft to the Austin area makes getting to/​from here that much easier, if one is dropping off his vehicle for multi-​day repairs.
I highly recommend this auto shop, no question.

First let me start by saying I have a 1997 Geo Prizm named Gracie with over 170k miles on her. I hate change and even more, I hate car payments! I am grateful that Yost didn’t laugh at me when I came in. I explained to them that the car broke down in a small town near Fort Worth and I just had a rebuilt transmission done under duress so I was already in for $ 2k that I didn’t want to exactly just walk away from. I also wanted to keep this car running another 2 – 4 years as I am giving it to my 17 year old daughter as her first clunker/​starter car.
My previous mechanic of over 15 years basically refused to work on it anymore after this last breakdown and talked to me like I was an idiot. I eventually tired of his attempts to force me into a new car and his constant condescension. I have a masters degree, it’s not like I’m stupid. I just have no in depth knowledge or interest in cars. That is why I go to a mechanic! If I am ok with a car basically just being an appliance and I focus on function over form, then why do I need to upgrade? Click and Clack said it’s always cheaper to fix a car than to buy another and I believe them.
Yost was supportive, understanding, honest and offered excellent service and value. They gave me an itemized list of things needed, set realistic expectations, recommended some timeframes for future needs and worked with what I wanted.
Everything was great! Jacob and everyone else at Yost was very polite and explained things positively and clearly.
The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because I just got the repairs done. I want to wait and see how things go. I plan to go back to them in about 6 months for some follow up on my brakes. If all goes well, another star may be added!

I have been to Yost on several occasions now. Their customer service is impeccable and you can’t beat their prices. I’m not much of a car buff but their mechanics took to the time to answer all of my questions. Jake has been the one I have had the most interaction with and I’ve recommend Yost to many friends. Love their convenient location! I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla with a decent amount of rust from the rough MN winters for the record.

Dropped in for an oil change after work. I didn’t have an appointment, but they took in my car right away, finished quickly, and it was reasonably priced. Free wifi in the waiting room!

I’ve always liked Yost because I’m not a car guy, and you don’t have to be in order to take your car there. I’ve been coming here for over a decade now; I’ve encouraged my friends to take their cars here; I’ve pushed broken-​down punk rock tour vans into the driveway at the old place on Reinli. But after getting charged a $ 75 surcharge on a simple battery replacement on a Solara, I can’t imagine going back.
It had been a while since I’d been in, because my current car had been driving pretty well for the past few years, so I didn’t realize they started charging a $ 75 diagnostic surcharge when you took your car in – and when they called and told me the cost of the repair was $ 130, it didn’t occur to me when I went in that I’d be paying them over $ 200 to get my car back. That really does feel excessive when it’s something as simple as the car needing a new battery, and it’s hard to feel good about paying in excess of $ 200 for that repair. I’m sure they’re still good, honest people over there — the explanation of why they charge the diagnostic fee is two pages long, so they are clearly trying to be open about it – but that just doesn’t make sense to me for something like this, and there are other honest mechanics in Austin whose prices seem a lot more reasonable.
