Zen Fit

I joined Zen Fit almost two years ago and it’s became an essential part of my life in Austin. Professor Paul Saucido and Mr. Jon Davis have created an exceptional training environment focused on discipline, practice, and community. Both are extremely skilled and recognized teachers in Jiu Jitsu and Hapkido respectively, and have a great way of breaking their arts down to the basics.
Classes are focused on individual development, and helping each person reach their maximum training potential. At Zen Fit you’ll be pushed to grow just as much from the other students as the teachers, as each class is focused on practicing and applying real-​life skills, usually with a partner. These aren’t kick-​boxing classes or a fluffy cardio mma workouts. Professor Paul and Mr. Davis are focused on teaching applied martial arts and helping each student dig into the roots of their martial arts practice. Whether you’ve never put on a gi before or are looking for a new way to commit yourself to your training, Zen Fit is the place to be for martial arts on the east side.

I absolutely adore this place.
I’m in the hapkido program, and Mr Davis is an exceptional teacher. As someone who’s never been into sports-​y things, I find his style easy to follow, and he motivates with kindness and positivity. I’m finding myself getting more fit without realizing it, and it feels great. Classes are fun, challenging, and at really great time slots (7p classes mean I have to be way more judicious about my post-​work happy hours). Everyone progresses at their own speed, making this a great workout for those who prefer to be competitive with themselves rather than others.
Mr Davis and Mr Saucido have done a great job of building community. The dojang feels like home. They are also charitable, and involved in the neighborhood.

I absolutely love training with Paul. Each workout feels very personalized, and the variety always keeps me interested.

I truly enjoy coming to zen fit, training, learning from other students enjoying the art of BJJ and Hapkido. I have my 3 yr old son in zen youths class (3 times a week) it is teaching him morals, respect and self defense and a great way to bound with other kids. It is a great experience doing these sport so if you’re looking to get in a great work out or trying to get you child (rends) in a great sport they will like and enjoy this is the place!!! Thank you again professor Paul and Mr. Davis for allowing me and my son into your school we both enjoy it very much.

Zen fit, is the place to be! Great people, nice, helpful and very passionate. From beginners to professional, children to adults, or just trying to get in shape. They do it all. Learn from a variety of martial arts. You can’t go wrong with this place!

A school is the sum of the people who lead it and of those who follow. Hapkido here is rooted in tradition. Mr. Davis is one of only a few blackbelts built from a solid link to the origins of the art here in the U.S., Bön Soo Han.
It’s not a huge factory of blackbelts. You will train. You will train hard. You will practice within tradition. Although you may come for a taste, you might find yourself a new part of your life. It may take time to get. After all, you can not learn Hapkido in a single day, it will take you your entire lifetime. Give it a try. You are welcome to join us.

Mr. Davis is a great Hapkido instructor. He is passing down the knowledge of this ancient martial art very effectively and with much passion. Hapkido practice includes a challenging physical workout as well as practical self defense techniques.
The Zen Fit studio has everything one needs to train in the martial arts.

The self defense based style Martial Art of Hapkido, was what drew me to join. Not only is this one of the most insane workouts you will ever do, but the balance of the physical and mental is what really makes this the perfect fit for me.
Mr. Davis is a wonderful instructor. He is great about pushing and motivating and being very respectful and mindful that each individual has a different limit.
The bonus about having a membership here is that most other classes are free to take as well.

My 4 year old twins (boy and girl) have been taking Hapkido classes with Mr Paul for almost a year now. They love it and the instructors are really good with the young ones. There are 3 classes/​week and a good crew of kids!

I just wrote this same review on google and want to get the word out about this place. I’ve been going to Zen Fit for about 6 weeks now. It’s great! I wanted to learn some boxing techniques and hoped that it would be a fun way to get back in shape. Rocky, our instructor, definitely knows his stuff and I am drenched in sweat by the time class is over. The class is fun, definitely challenging, and affordable.
Paul and Rocky are super easy to work with. The class is small so you get plenty of attention. The other students are great to train with as well.

Great place to workout! I’ve only only been twice and wish I could come some more. I enjoy the MMA conditioning classes which go on for an hour and since the class is small feels like your getting a one on one personal training experience. You’ll be feeling it the next day but your body will love it!

I’ve been coming here for about 6 months now and I’ve got to say that this must be the best work out experience I’ve had in Austin. The instructors are helpful, friendly, and accommodating to individual skill levels, schedules, and fitness levels. One thing that I’ve been particularly pleased with is the emphasis on mindset here. At the same time, my classes (jui jitsu) are very physically demanding, with time for live practice situations at the end of almost every class.
This is the first time I’ve found a place that meets my need for both mindful practice and physical one on one competition.
