There is a very nice Veteran’s Memorial in the city of Avalon on Catalina Island. It was erected in 1999. You can’t miss it either because it is right there along Avalon Harbor in front of you as you walk either to or from the ferry boat docks. This Memorial is very grand. There is a big memorial plaque and a noble line of tall flagpoles with beautiful flags that the sea breeze catches in the wind. In addition to the actual memorial to the Vets, there is also a children’s playground, a basketball court, and sand volleyball court. The plaque inscription states: «This Memorial is Dedicated to All Veterans — Men and Women — Who Have Served Their Country in Harm’s Way In All Branches of The Armed Forces of the United States of America VFW Post #4682 Avalon, California While waiting for the Catalina Express boat to come in, I sat at the Veteran’s Memorial yesterday and took in all in. I saw what I assumed were some retired vets also enjoying the fresh breeze off the ocean on a hot day. It is a lovely place to go where you can appreciate all that our veterans have done for us.
