Good wine but great people! Thanks so much for giving us the inside scoop on the area while we play tourists for the week!

Great wine and nice atmosphere, highly recommend stopping by for a tasting. We ended up picking up two bottles. The owner was a great host and takes a lot of pride in sharing his wine.

While checking out the town, we just walked up on this tiny storefront winery. What we were about to discover was that tiny store front held an adorable, below grade tasting room with amazing wines. Scott the winemaker was outstanding! It was such a cool experience to have him be the one to serve us! There are a small number of high-top tables around the tasting room and some chairs right up at the bar – which is where we sat. Mom & I chose to sit at the bar so we could have a direct convo with Scott to discuss our tastings. While everything I tasted was really good, my favorites were the bubbly and the moscato – and I bought a bottle of each to take home with me. They have a pretty nice selection of wine accessories and wine-related gifts and trinkets for sale. They also have a wine club which I’m interested in joining but I’ll have to keep it a secret since my Dad is in the wine business! He would likely kill me upon finding out but hey, if I find something I like I’m gonna buy it. Sorry Dad, but Scott makes great stuff! With this review and the 5 stars I gave, I’m obviously saying GOTRYTHISPLACE! :)

My favorite winery! We’ve been members for years and every time there’s something new from Scott & Rebecca. All types of wines from whites to reds to ports. The ports are on limited supply because everyone buys them in bulk including me! The Pinot noir is the signature and our favorite red! If you’re in gorgeous Avila Beach you have to stop at Alapay!

This is a great tasting room. We were served by the wine maker for part of our visit, so we got to learn a bit about the wine, as well as stories behind their conception(ask about the wine he makes in honor of his wife). Fair prices, tasting fees waived upon purchase of a bottle, and good wine, it’s hard to go wrong here.

Our hostess was the best! She was amazing and we loved almost every single wine we tried. Only reason there isn’t five stars is because one of the chocolates we bought was moldy and I didn’t find out until after I bit into it… but you don’t go there for chocolates right? We will definitely be stopping by again the next time we are up :)

Marnie was an amazing hostess. Bummed that the Rebecca wine was unavailable but excited to see the new label coming soon on this wine. There is no bad wine there in either red or white and I encourage you if you are not a member of their wine club to become one as well look forward to their shipments arriving and better yet visiting them in person!

We have been Wine Club members at Alapay for a year now. We love the variety of wines that Scott makes. This is not your average winery that carries only the basic types of wines. My husband and I enjoy the Alapay tasting room not only because of the amazing wine options but also the wine accessories Scott has for purchase in the tasting room. We are truely spoiled to have this Unique variety so close to home. I couldn’t choose a favorite wine. Zin, Alatre, Rebecca, sparkling so many options and great company. Not to mention all of the fun member only events such as wine cruises! So much fun!

What a great wine tasting room! Scott is the sole winemaker and he loves his profession. The wines are made with love. Fantastic reds including rare varietals such as Lagrein from the Alto Adige in Italy. There is even a sparkling wine with just a hint of sweetness. Truly one of the best wines in the region.

I am so happy my husband and I stopped by here on our day off! We have never been wine tasting in Avila so we decided to stop by one winery just to check it out. We definitely picked a great one, and we will be back. Our favorites were the 2013 Chardonnay, 2013 Lagrein, and the 2007 Syrah port. We ended up going home with the Chardonnay. The atmosphere here was very nice. Down in a «basement» area with really cool aquariums. Their gift shop had a lot of cute items too. The winemaker was pouring for us, he was very friendly, and even though the bar was full and more people were tasting at tables, he did a great job of keeping everyone’s glass full while talking about the wines. I definitely recommend this winery if you are tasting in the Avila Beach area!

I have to say, this place is unlike any other winery I’ve tasted at(in a good way). It’s downstairs in a partial basement and there are fish tanks. Wine tasting is $ 10 each and has plenty of pours. They are the earilest to open, at 10:30am on Sundays. Pours are nice. Bottles of wine are about $ 30 and if you buy a bottle the tasting fee is waved. Is the wine overpriced? Yeah, but it’s a decent $ 20 bottle(when you think of it in terms of the tasting fee). They have a lot of very unique and drinkable wines. Great store too.

Great place in Avila to taste wines. We liked pretty much all of them, but the highlights were the beautifully buttery Chardonnay, the bubbly, and the smoky Pinot Noir. The jalapeño Cab was also really interesting. Even the port and Moscato – which I don’t usually like – were delicious. If you’re staying at one of the local hotels, they likely have a coupon for free tasting here…

Service is always a great thing when tasting in a «tasting room» … Now how could you go wrong in the quaint setting of Avila beach but if you wanted more, like great smiles and service pouring you excellent wines of all colors and tastes this is a great place. Also you can spend 15 – 20 mins just looking at their cool things in the shop to bring home for you or friends/family. And though many are excellent ask to try the«Rebekah» it’s amazing. It’s his signature wine he names after his wife. A lot of detail goes into his wines all the way down to decorating the bottle!

I’ve been to Alapay 3 times now, on each of my visits to Avila Beach. I am always greeted with a smile by whoever is pouring the wine that day. I love wine tasting here because I get to look at their fish tank with their cute fish. My favorite wine here is the Lagrein. I had never heard of the Lagrein grape before and Alapay claims to be the only vineyard in California who grows it. I always fly home with a bottle(or 12!).

Head to Alapay for a relaxing, memorable wine tasting experience. Nestled right among the charming village of Avila Beach is one inviting wine boutique. Standouts include the«Best in Show» Edna Valley Pinot Noir, the Santa Barbara Sauvignon Blanc, the«Gold Medal» Legrein and the«Gold Medal» Rebekah blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Verdot(Rebecca signs every bottle of her namesake varietal). We sampled many wonderful varietals and took a few bottles home(Santa Barbara Pinot Noir and the Lagrein). The owners were not at the cellar during our visit because they were off in Greece hosting one of their Wine Club Cruises with many of their club members, but we were fortunate to have a wonderful young lady educate us in the Alapay wine culture. We even made some friends along the way. Alapay owners Scott and Rebecca Remmenga are passionate about their wines and giving each customer personalized attention within an approachable, relaxing, non-intimidating setting. Alapay does not distribute to wholesalers, restaurants or wine shops, so you will only find these special wines in their seaside wine cellar. They pride themselves on being part of the total wine production process and being«hands-on winemakers». Club members receive complimentary wine tastings, 15% off wine for both themselves and their guests, 20% off cases of wine, 10% off accessories and gifts and invites to specials events. Last week was the 10-day Mediterranean cruise, which sounds increbibly fun. They also host several Sunset Cruises out in Avila Bay and an annual Winemaker’s Dinner. Indulge in some delucious wines at this intimate cellar just around the corner from the sun-filled beach, restaurants, cafes and boutiques.
