We accidentally found Luke’s while driving around Avon, and it turned out to be a delicious accident. We enjoyed the fresh donuts and the warm clientele. We are making it our Saturday habit.

Came here for the first time in 15 years, even though it’s right down the street. Walked in with my son to some regulars talking about the«thug» in the White House. Great start… I got a glazed donut, chocolate with sprinkles and a ham egg and cheeses on everything bagels. My son enjoyed the glazed donut. The breakfast sandwiches were mediocre, grocery store bagels, bits of ham, dark looking egg like the grill wasn’t clean. Most likely will be another 15 years before I return!

The original owner used to have a no makeup policy for the gals that worked there. The owners have changed but the staple of this place is the glazed donut and the apple filled. Really a classic old Avon spot that still has real townies down drinking their morning coffee around the U shaped counter. Avon has largely become a Starbuck consuming element of well monied brainless(in the insurance industry around here, you see a lot of this) colossal parochial asshats… but this is a great relic when it was an understated Yankee town.

I’ve never been here, but got the chance to try a chocolate glazed donut over the past weekend. I have to say, I was pretty impressed. The donut was very thick, rich and cakey. This is no light and airy pastry. This is a legit homemade donut done well. I’d prefer Luke’s over Dunkin Donuts any day. Not only because I’d rather support independent businesses, but because the donuts are downright satisfying.

This is the constant request for weekend donuts at our house, the maple is to die for! I brought to work and people wanted to know where they came from! The best donuts in the area! Meredith

Had a tasty, chocolate donut this morning at Luke’s Donut Shop in Avon. One donut, one dollar. It had a bit crunchiness, which I liked, slightly moist. Tasted fresh, a bit rich, but still decent. Only had the donut, so can’t say much more. I’d come back again.

Luke’s is a friendly shop with excellent donuts and attentive service. One of our favorites for breakfast.

Donuts were stale. Place is cramped and didn’t seem clean. Egg and cheese on a bagel was extremely greasy.

This is all I’ve heard about for years in Avon. I finally got around to trying it and I have to say it did not live up to the hype. I don’t think they were store made, they were extremely small and overly expensive. Sorry…

This is another establishment that brings home childhood memories… The décor had not changed since I remember, still a small group of people at the counter by the front door chatting away, one being a postal worker. Was in a rush, and looking for a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. Called it in and was ready in 5 min which was very convenient. I think it was made with two eggs, fresh with good flavored bacon. Roll was soft and it was over all worth the $ 3. I will return.

I walked in to the shop and observed a gentleman behind the counter consolidating donuts onto one tray with his bare hands. When I ordered my donuts he began to pick my donuts up with a piece of paper but put them in the bag with his bare had when he thought he was out of sight. I was completely disgusted when he began to cough and sneeze. I questioned him about his food handling practices and was told to leave and never to come back to his business. He next threatened to call the cops on me and followed me out of the store. All I wanted was donuts not the flu!

Ever since moving to the area, I’ve heard great things about Luke’s Donut Shop. So finally, I decided to check it out. I was not impressed. Luke’s is small, musty and just felt old and dirty inside. The donuts were fine but nothing special… better than D&D but that isn’t saying much. In all, not a bad place and I would stop in again to pick up a quick snack. However, I wouldn’t recommend it.

A true CT institution. Amazing egg and cheese sandwiches, and run by the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Love the donuts too.

well, I wanted travel season to be the season of indigenous donuts, alas, this was the only one thus far, but a good one. so yes, it is tucked into the curves of residential avon, but not that hard to find. I mean I wasnt looking for it, it just popped up and there you go. So if you are a local, you know about the dinning counter and its place in history and all that other stuff. i bet this place jumps on sunday mornings and during the day the matlock crowd certain likes to loiter(what else are they going to do until matlock comes on) and get their greasy spoon on, dont know how their food is as i didnt have bfest. the donut case is full of leavened goodness. I had a jellystick and by far the best one ive had in a looooong time… not to say i get jelly sticks often or donuts for that matter(for the wife, shes reading this, hi mer!!!) the bite was just chewy enough to set it apart from DD jank, less cacky, more glazed donutesque and the filling was delightful and abundant. not too much to overwhelm, but throughout the dough log. would i come back? sure! would i drive to avon for it, no chance. Unilocal you very much for reading…

Luke’s is an intsitution in Connecticut and prior to the advances in internet, Google, and satellite technology you had to be“in-the-know” if you wanted to get there as it is a bit off the beaten path. Best donuts in the state hand’s down and I have no idea what Frank from Bristol is talking about.

Worst donuts ever. The donuts are usually old and stale. Very little variety. It is quite clear the owner doesn’t know much about making quality donuts.

I’ve been going to Luke’s Donut Shop for ages. The original owners have left but the new owners have expanded beyond the terrific donuts Luke’s have always provided. There are regulars there for coffee klatches early in the morning talking about politics and the usual arguments between the Yankee and Red Sox fans. I haven’t been there in awhile, so it was a lot of fun. I had a coffee and a egg, cheese and sausage on a roll and it was good. Great place for cinnamon rolls, donuts, and an inexpensive breakfast. As I was eating my egg sandwich, the cinnamon rolls kept calling me: «Eat me!» and I finally gave in to their cries.
