When we ate here(a few months ago), I overheard the owner telling a regular that she was getting ready to close the place. She said she was having to dip into her own savings to keep it open. It was evident that they were trying to save money because when we got there, the lights were turned off. When they were turned on, we noticed the burned out bulbs had not been replaced. The fountain soda machine was just for show… pop comes in 2-liter bottles here. However, the food was very good. They are definitely not cutting corners on quality or portion size with their food. I had the shrimp and oyster po-boy and it exceeded my expectations. The seafood was perfectly cooked and breaded just right. My boyfriend kind of made his own combo platter by ordering 3 sides. I tried a bite of each and all were tasty. The staff we interacted with… the owner(who doesn’t move very quickly), the cook, and some other guy… all were very friendly, smiling, eager to make sure we had a good experience. So what’s the problem? Here’s my theory. This place is buried in a residential part of Avon. It’s next to a sports bar but the closest other restaurants are several miles away… you’d have to want to go HERE specifically to find it. The good people of Avon may think that everything is spicy and their might be nothing for their kids to eat… untrue on both counts. There is hot sauce available and the food is flavorful, but it isn’t spicy hot, and there are kids items. Here’s an actual problem: I don’t think there are any vegetarian items besides the fries and MAYBE the rice and beans. The menu is heavy on seafood… and we all know how much land-locked midwesterners looooove seafood. For a non-seafood-eater(like my bf)…not a ton of options.

I’ve been to New Orleans a number of times and this place does not have the atmosphere equivalent to those in New Orleans. The food was pretty decent and the restaurant was clean. However, our waitress(I believe the owner) was very rude. She seemed as if serving us was an inconvenience and raised her voice at another patron. The man who made our food was so friendly though. We will probably only go back for takeout.

I’m a fan of Nawlins Creole Café. I loved the food, but found portions were on the small side. I left feeling like I had a good representation of New Orleans cuisine and wished I had a tad more though. This restaurant is family owned and spawned from a successful catering business. Mama Nawlins is always on site with someone in the back working their voodoo that they do, which I’ve found to be consistent each time. The fried oyster, shrimp, and catfish are always good and lightly breaded with the right zing to take you back to the french quarter. I’ve also tried the shrimp po boy on a few occasions and found it to be very tasty as well. Plenty of room to take the family or host a Mardi Gras party. I recommend the sampler platter so you can decide how adventurous you want to be. Menu is kid friendly. They also offer Seafood Saturdays and from time to time, they offer all you can eat Catfish. I would place them as good contenders with the contemporary Yatz or even the«new comer» Mud Bugs(Carmel), if you are familiar with these other cajun-style places.

Excellent! Picked up two sampler platters and everything was great. Can’t wait to go back.

We did enjoy the food here. I had a shrimp Po’ Boy and it was very good. The portions are a little small. The really bad thing was that is was their crawfish boil day so most of the things on the menu weren’t available to order. I guess this is because of the crawfish boil. The Mom of the place was pretty rude and opinionated. The son, however, was a charming guy. He was very nice and gave us some of the potatoes and other items to try from the crawfish boil. We will go back sometime, I am sure.

went there last sunday for lunch. the service was was great and staff were very friendly. i had the dressed shrimp and oyster poboy while the wife has the sampler. maybe the sampler portion is a little too small for me but they all tasted good. my poboy was ok.

The food was good, but the portions were small and service was terrible. It helps if your staff can pronounce the name of your establishment correctly. Go for the food(takeout), but don’t expect anything from the atmosphere. This location must have previously been a coffee house. The only thing that would remind someone of New Orleans are a few posters purchased off the Internet.

Had a chance to try this place this past weekend(Feb 13th) and wow what a great place to eat. The food was served in a timely manner and came out how and had incredible flavor. My dad had the special of the night and I had the Shrimp Ettouffe. We both had a bowl of the clam soup and it was great. The owners are there and make sure everything goes well. The place is very well priced and worth the drive and the price. If you like cajun food you will love this place.
