Yum! Great menu. Get the smoked friend chicken. Great service here too.

I bought a Unilocal deal so we visited on a Sunday night. Service was slow, but we did have good wine and drinks. Food was… ok. Not sure if it was the kitchen or the service, but our entrees were cold, especially my husband’s steak. It was more medium than medium-rare, and was so tough I could barely get my fork through it. I ordered the fish of the day, which was sea scallops I was told. I got two very small scallops(quarter-sized, more like bay scallops) with three shrimp, for $ 22. Not really worth the money we spent. The polenta and green beans were good. Overall the chef is producing good flavors, but I can see why this place is closing. It was an ok experience, and not one we’d repeat.

The wife and I had heard good things about The Bishop since it opened and decided to meet friends there last night. Our server was very nice but not terribly well informed about the beer selection. The turkey meatloaf with whipped potatoes and seasonal veggies was delicious. Also tried my wife’s short rib sliders and they were tasty but a little grisly. Wines are all on tap which is pretty interesting — order by the glass, half or full carafe. I was impressed that they had a gruner veltliner… After we had been there a while I noticed the lighting was a little harsh or at least not complementary of the nice space and décor. Also, they turned up the Nat King Cole/Billie Holiday mix way too loud. I liked the tunes but it’s not punk rock, folks, tone it down a bit. In summary, educate the wait staff on the limited menu and tone down the lighting and music and you’ve got yourself a very nice neighborhood restaurant experience.

My boyfriend and I came in for brunch this morning and loved the ambiance here right away. From the couple in the window reading the paper, to the family celebrating a birthday, it had a perfect, charming vibe. He had the chicken and waffles, and I had the eggs benny — both of which were great! The side of cheesy grits were the favorite. A few pieces of the fried chicken were a little over done, but the never ending coffee and buttery biscuits made up for it. The bar is simple and beautiful with tons of wine on tap! We will definitely be back!

The ambiance is perfect for this little spot in Avondale Estates. However, when we got our food it was cold. So disappointed. I know that this place has the potential that it seems to be, so I may try it again… maybe.

The most amazing Osso Buco I’ve ever had. Fall off the bone goodness! Wonderful ambiance & great energy. Must try their deviled eggs too! Better than my moms but don’t tell my mom :)).

Food was great! We had the waffle/chicken sliders and their hamburger with cheese and bacon. They were both delicious. We also went during brunch and had some of their $ 5 mimosas. We purchased the Unilocal $ 15 for $ 30. What an awesome deal. Remember though when the check comes out to tip your server the full amount of what the ticket would have been. Don’t get stingy with it. We will definitely be back.

The drinks were fabulous. I had the seared tuna salad. Though it was«warned» to be rare(which I love) it was cooked a great deal(not so good). The dish was edible and I wasn’t hungry afterwards. It wasn’t money’s worth good. I wouldn’t order it again. Service was good and cheerful. Having a Unilocal coupon made me feel better about the cost of the meal.

This is a cute location. It’s obvious there’s a management issue. We were told the wait would be 15 minutes. The wait was closer to 35 minutes. Then, once we sat down, the server didn’t come to our table for another 10 minutes. It wasn’t that busy. The upside — fantastic Bloody Mary. Delicious gluten-free bread. The entrees were inventive and tasty. I would eat there again because the food was worth the wait. They hired musicians. They set up right beside our table. We couldn’t get out of our seats. So, that was a little annoying. They kept moving the singers around and it was just a little chaotic. Overall it was a pretty good experience.

Stopped in here on a Saturday evening for a few beers and a quick bite. The Bishop is a great location for Decatur residents and the restaurant itself is very cool looking inside, modern but classy. They have local beer on tap that rotates pretty frequently. They’ve also got wine on tap — something I’ve never seen before. The bartenders were friendly as well. We had deviled eggs and green beans as appetizers and they were good. The menu looked pretty good as well, but I’d say it’s a little pricey in my opinion. But all in all The Bishop is very cool, and I’ll return.

Yeah, this is a nice little restaurant. I’m surprised it took me so ling to get there, as I know it’s been around for a while now. We showed up Saturday night and got a pretty comfortable table, even though it was fairly busy inside. The décor is really nice, and the people working there are all very friendly and responsive. The food is good. We had chips as an appetizer, and they were really good. I ate the trout, and others at my table had linguini, pork, and tuna niçoise. While there were hiccups here and there with the food(e.g., one person couldn’t eat cheese, but they cut the cheese from another dish; the tuna had way too much parsley), overall I was pleased with my meal. The drinks were good, too! They have a limited set of liquors at the bar, but the bartender seems to know what he’s doing. Service was a bit spotty. Our waiter seemed to be going through some growing pains, as there is a little polish missing, and timing was sometimes off. The music was really, really loud, but when we asked, they turned it down a bit, which was really nice. I’ll definitely go back.

Last night’s Prix Fixe Valentine preview was FLAWLESS. It starts with a delicious and fresh oyster variety, followed by an arugula salad accented with a light strawberry vinaigrette and goat cheese. The entrée was crispy duck on risotto that was so creamy and delicious and infused with duck, I could barely resist licking the plate clean. To avoid embarrassing my family, I did not. Dessert was a perfect ending for this incredible meal — light and creamy and perfect. The Malbec was perfect for the duck. I just can’t say enough about the experience of this meal — the presentation, the layers of flavor and the service. Truly one of the best meals I have ever had. I love the Bishop anyway(very good food, incredible house made desserts, and imaginative, interesting cocktails that taste good) but the chef and Louella took it to a whole new level last night. Our own little miracle in Avondale Estates. Run to your phone now and make a reservation — do not risk on missing out.

The Bishop is a quaint little eatery in Avondale. It feels very cozy-southern-bistro when you walk in. That feeling is exacerbated by the friendliness of the service. They have a good wine selection and enough craft beers to satisfy food-paring novices like me. They are known for their smoked, then fried, chicken so that was the easy choice for me. Wifey went with a burger that the waiter lauded as she asked menu questions. There’s so much to be said for knowledgeable staff and The Bishop doesn’t disappoint. The food is well-presented and has great eye appeal which, incredibly, is bested by its flavor. The smoked chicken was filled with smokey, delicious flavor, and encrusted in a crispy battered coat. It is scrumptious and paired with cauliflower purée and pickled black-eyed peas. The flavor combination is delightful, but very rich by the end of the meal. My wife’s burger was one of the best she’s ever had — great call waiter. There’s a lot to like about The Bishop and enough interesting options on the menu to bring us back for many more visits. If you’re on the fence about where to go to eat, get off it and get on down to The Bishop.

We came here for a spur of the moment dinner. I am pregnant so I couldn’t try the cocktails, but my husband says they were expertly done. I loved the little seasonal twists on the cocktails — and they smelled wonderful. We will come back when I can try them. I got the braised brisket with whipped cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes, since I love he hoped cauliflower. It was good. There were a few fatty pieces that I wish had been meat, but it’s brisket so it was expected. Overall, delicious. My husband had the steak au poivre which he enjoyed. We saw several fried chickens come out and decided next time we are totally getting that meal. We are moving away soon but this restaurant is definitely worth a trip from Marietta to when I can enjoy more of the menu.

Having seen great reviews on this place, we decided to try it for a date night. The«wine on tap» concept was definitely intriguing, so I set off in search of a wine suitable to my palate. First one… meh… Second one… bleh…Third one… eh…(WTH?) Finally the 4th one tasted OK. It was more of a selection by way of default… So that was a bit disappointing. But the rest of what we had more than made up for that wine experience. We ordered the Smoked Fried Chicken and the Braised Beef Short Rib. Both entrees were nothing short of phenomenal. Just awesome. Crème Brulee and a gluten free chocolate cake rounded out the meal quite nicely. The price point here is reasonable for the food they serve, though it can add up quickly. We definitely liked our visit here, and we’ll be back to try other entrees… or just stick with what we ordered because it was so darned good.

I’ve been to The Bishop a couple times and I am 98% a fan. They’re super close to my house, so I of course want them to do well and drive up my property values. I’m nothing if not selfish. The first time we went, we took some neighbors for brunch. That visit didn’t go very well, sadly. Our coffee took a long time, and when we did get it it was already cold. They use French Press, so maybe it’d been steeping too long or something? The server and owner were apologetic and brought out hotter coffee as soon as they could. I get what they’re trying to do, but I think French Press may not be the best method for a 4-top who wants frequent refills. They do provide a pastry basket while you wait for your meal, and I LOVED everything in it. Everyone at the table ordered Shrimp and Grits except for me, and 2⁄3 of those people thought the food was cold. At this point I’d begun to expect that our neighbors may be hot food fiends, because my husband didn’t really have a problem with his. We both used to work in food service, though, so we forgive a lot that other folks may not. Taste-wise, everyone did enjoy their food once it was re-made and brought to the table still steaming. Both times I’ve been, I’ve gotten the French toast. It’s perfectly done, and a nicely-sized portion. It comes with berries, so you feel like you’re having a healthy breakfast. It also comes with a side of bacon, but I think The Bishop gets Pine Streets ends n’ pieces or something, because I haven’t yet seen a full slice of bacon and instead get a little saucer of bits. Extremely tasty and delicious bits, for sure, but not exaaaactly what I think of when I’m ordering bacon. When I took another friend, she also got the shrimp and grits and really enjoyed it. The pastry basket that day was also super good, though it occurred to me halfway through shoveling banana chocolate chip cake into my face that my main was also going to be bread-based so I had to back up off a bit and sit my cake down(banana bread and French toast yeah I’m fucked up now).(Sorry, I’m stuck in 1992 where Snoop still reigns supreme) I keep meaning to make it in for dinner so my husband can try the smoked fried chicken, so I’ll update again once we finally do that. For now, I’m really glad The Bishop is in the area and I hope they continue to do well.
