Best place to eat in Bad Axe!
I came here a few years ago and the food and atmosphere were forgettable. I tried Rachels again recently while I was in town on a trip and they’ve revamped the menu and touched up the interior. The exterior is still a bit plain and it would be easy to drive past this place without a second thought, but don’t…Rachels is the best food you’ll find in the area.
I ordered a special of broiled white fish with red potatoes and asparagus. Everything was good. What was great was the homemade sangria. People at my table tried both the red wine Sangria, the peach sangria and the margarita (on the rocks) and all were great.
Most of the food is in the $ 12 to $ 20 range with specialty cocktails at $ 7.
Live music… a nice, mid-​upscale feel… a nice outdoor patio… good food and drinks… Rachels has definitely made a change for the better.

This place was pretty good! It was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the chicken burrito, and my daughter got the BLT. For the price, it was great.
When you get the burrito, you get some tortilla chips and salsa. The chips were very bland and needed salt. The salsa was a little less than average.
But the burrito was very good. Had a great wet sauce on top of it, the cheese was great, and the chicken was really good. The beans and rice was even good. Not your typical dried out beans and rice you normally get from a Mexican joint.
Overall, I would be back to try it out again. I was pleased.

Delightfully surprised at the ambience when we arrived for date night. When we stepped inside it didn’t feel like we were in Bad Axe :) Sushi was wonderful as were our meals.

The staff here is pleasant and helpful, the food is awesome as well as consistent and they aren’t afraid to try new things that other restaurants in the area wouldn’t dare. I always show up for sushi night!
I ate there once again today and had another great experience! Actually I’ve visited probably a dozen times or more in the last 6 months or so and always have a great experience. It was time they receive a good review from me. They deserve it.
Some years ago I wouldn’t eat there but times have really changed. They have taken things seriously and decided to make this restaurant something special.
In conclusion, this is what people like me look for in a restaurant. It is really refreshing to see some variety in a region that I call a «culinary wasteland».

Went to Rachel’s with the family today! Got the Bacon Cheeseburger with Sweet Potato fries. The fries were cooked well (maybe little to much for me, but not burnt and very tasty). The flavor was very good.
My wife got a BLT sandwich which she enjoyed! The baby thought the fries were tasty too :)
Gina our server was right on top of things, quick with refills and very nice!

This is one of the best restaurants in the area! We came in, were greeted and seated immediately, and our drink orders were taken by our very pleasant server. I had the pork chop dinner and my husband had perch. The chops were thin but perfectly done, the perch was plentiful and also cooked well. A great dinner out for a reasonable price. We will most definitely be back!

This review is based on service, we never had a chance to try the food. Came in with the family and i can’t even tell you how many of the workers (all ladies) just looked at us. We waited 17 minutes, seriously i timed it. Finally a lady comes by and sits us down, guess what… we waited another 20 minutes before anyone even asked for drinks. We got up and left. The place wasn’t even busy, some of the most laziest and under trained restuarant staff i have ever seen.

We ate here on a Saturday for lunch. Food was delicious and staff was very nice and tentative. My husband had the Prime Rib Sandwich, very juicy and lots of meat. I had the Grilled Shrimp with vegetables special, very tasty. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Had the burrito that was definitely homemade with TLC. Good luck eating the whole meal! Great staff and great service with a casual atmosphere.

Friendly staff, decent bar area, clean/​updated and great food for the price!
Tile floor throughout, booths on the restaurant side, tables on the bar side. I had the Salmon Chowder and Angry Pig Tacos with a draft and left very satisfied.

Was in a group of five that dined on a Monday evening. Had the Thai chicken, based upon recommendations from previous reviewers, and was not disappointed. Only thing keeping me from rating this five stars was that it took a while for the food to come out. Not sure why — it wasn’t that busy, being a weeknight and all — but things seemed a little slow.

Love the salmon, the sauce is to «die» for! Service very friendly, good value. I will defiantly be back when I am traveling in bad axe.

I’ve eaten the Thai chicken, salmon chowder and fish tacos. Wow. The chef/​cook has to be Laotian or Vietnamese or something because the flavors are spot on. It’s not an Asian restaurant but the chowder tastes like tom yum and the fish tacos were super fresh tasting with fresh herbs. I would recommend giving it a shot if you for some reason happen to find yourself in the thumb of Michigan.

I was in the area on business and found this place on Unilocal.I had the prime rib sandwich and fries. It’s chipped prime rib served on a nice, soft chibatta roll with a slice of provolone and horseradish sauce. It was maybe a little too salty, but tasty nonetheless. The fries were double fried, which is my favorite. There were two servers working my area. One was an older lady who was very pleasant, worked quickly, and seemed to embrace her job. The other, a younger girl… not so much. She wasn’t bad, just didn’t smile and sort of looked like she’d rather be any place but there.

We stopped at this restaurant because we saw lots of car. We had the broiled walleye special with roasted potatoes and steamed vegetables. Amazing all around. Nice bar and nice people.

Great food, Great people, Great prices… What more could you want! I love the warm welcome I receive as I walk in, the staff knows me by name. Whenever I visit family, I make sure to stop by Rachel’s for a delicious bite to eat. I would recommend Rachel’s for large parties or just an intimate dinner. Make sure to try the angry orchard Sam Adams!

Service was good. Décor is nice. Food was average. Felt like everyone in the restaurant knew each other which I guess is to be expected in a small town oh god what am I doing in Bad Axe help me please…

My Wife was standing up in her best friend’s wedding and during rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, my father in law and I found ourselves with no responsibilities, a couple of good cigars and hungry. We drove around Bad Axe looking for a place with an outdoor eating area and after traversing downtown’s length and breadth, we ended up by our hotel at Rachel’s! SOOOO Glad we did. The service was absolutely perfect and the food incredible, prices very moderate especially for the quality of food and service we received! The facility is clean, we were served quickly, checked on often and yet never felt rushed despite the bustling business they were doing! Thank-​you for a great experience! HIGHLY recommend Rachel’s food and spirits if you are even close to Bad Axe Mi.

I have always really loved the place. Been telling all my friends about how great it is!
However if last night was my first time visiting, I would never go there again and I would tell people to stay away!
We decided to try the Mexican. My girlfriend had the enchilada and I ordered the chimichanga (both chicken). When the enchilada arrived it looked nothing like what the menu described. There were three small enchiladas with brown sauce on them. Aren’t enchiladas supposed to have a red sauce? Anyhow, the chicken looked like it came from a can and it was not flavored at all. The waitress offered to let us order something different or bring more enchiladas because the portion was small. We declined the reorder and also the extra enchiladas and thanked her for the offer. My girlfriend did not eat them because they were not what she expected and the chicken was unsavory.
The refried beans were too salty for either of us to eat.
We ended up splitting my chimichanga which was really good.
Ok, now is where the service went down hill. The waitress dropped off the bill and came back to pick it up. I let her know I haven’t had a chance to look at it yet because we had been talking. She left and came back within two minutes and asked if we were ready to pay the bill. I let her know that we have still not reviewed it and we would let her know when we were ready and asked her if we could get another drink. She took the bill and brought our drinks and the revised bill. She came back within two minutes again and asked us if were ready to pay the bill!!! I was floored, It felt like we were being pushed out the door! How did she know if we were going to have another cocktail or not? I said «Boy, you really want us to pay this bill huh!?» She said, «I’m just bored, I don’t have anything else to do.»
The whole experience was very unprofessional and the food was substandard from what I expect from this place. Like I said earlier, if this had been my first experience I would never go back.
In closing, I still really love this place from all my previous visits that were extraordinary and I will return soon in hopes that it was just an off night for Rachel’s.
