Alpha Canine Sanctuary

This is my favorite local animal charity as they are a no kill facility. Please consider them when making your contributions to charity.

I feel extremely fortunate to have gotten the opportunity to visit Alpha Canine Sanctuary today. Having grown up in Bakersfield and lived here for the majority of my life, I am shocked I had never heard about this sanctuary. It wasn’t until my sister, who is a photographer, began volunteering her time to take beautiful photos of the dogs in an attempt to help get them into good homes. Today I tagged along to assist her and boy was I in for quite a surprise. When you think dog shelter, you sometimes think about sad dogs locked away in small kennels. Alpha provides great sized quarters for their dogs, putting the emphasis on «sanctuary.» Alpha is a no-​kill sanctuary that houses 100 dogs. The premises are clean, spacious, and quite nice. I fell in love with all, yes, all of the dogs. Each one was so friendly, lovable, and full of personality. While of course it is sad to see so many sweethearts without homes, each dog looked happy and content with their current home at the sanctuary. I can tell how much time and effort has been put into making this sanctuary a safe haven for each and every dog. I literally could spend all day just hanging out and cuddling with each slobbery pooch! I love them so much and I love Alpha for providing this no-​kill sanctuary and protecting animals that may have had little chance elsewhere. If you are thinking of adopting a pet, I urge you to visit Alpha Canine Sanctuary and provide a loving creature a permanent family.
