I love the pastries here! so yummy, not too sweet. shortbread dipped in chocolate is my favorite but I haven’t had anything from here that I didn’t like! I used to love the bunny cookies when I was a kid! the only reason this place loses stars is because the lady is rude! she isn’t friendly with me at all but my boyfriend(who is white, German/Irish) she is very very nice to. I dare not go without him because she gives me the evil eye… maybe it’s my tattoos? anyway, great pastries, not so great lady at the counter. also they don’t take cards FYI

So we had to go to the Smog place near the DMV about a month ago and I had bookmarked this place for quite awhile since I saw PT’s pictures. When you first walk in… You can smell all the baked goods. The little old lady in the building(I assume is the owner) told me she has been in business since 1979(From what I remember that was the yr she stated) and she also mentioned she has another location here in Bakersfield. Can’t believe this place has been in business for this long and I barely tried this place. They don’t have a huge selection of baked goods, but from what I bought at this place… It was delicious. It’s the perfect treat as majority of their goods are bite size. I definitely want to come back and try other things as I have a sweet tooth. My favorite item that I purchased had strawberries on the top and I believe it was like a custard… It was in a pie crust that had great flavor and held everything together. If you’re down the street at the DMV you should check this place out after your long wait and you won’t be disappointed. FYI though. She doesn’t take cards and only accepts cash.

I can’t recall how many times I’ve driven by here after leaving my mechanic, smog place, DMV and even Lengthwise recently and never noticed Alpine Pastries was sitting on this corner. This time my wife and I were leaving the place we smog our cars and I said, «Hey there is Alpine Pastries» and next thing i know, we are stopping. From the outside it is nothing extravagant as far as any marketing schemes, just their sign and that is it. We walked in and were immediately greeted from the owner who was very friendly and quite sociable. We picked out a few desserts, including these lemon tart min-pies, which I love lemon pies. These were really good, really good tart! The only thing is when going to pay, we found out they do not accept credit cards, only cash or check which we never carry either. Our total came to $ 8.05 and no credit card accepted? We both go into our wallets, I found a five dollar bill(weird cause I never carry cash), my wife found just over two dollars in coins in hers and we are still short about 80 cents. I go check the car and luckily we have some change there, boom, paid in full! Their pastries have great taste, especially the lemon tart pies, I was impressed. This is definitely a place we will try a few times more, I assume the earlier in the day the better since we came about 4pm.

Alpine Pastries is hidden away. It is so hidden that I tend to forget that this bakery even exists. They should not be forgotten because they make some delicious baked goods here. The shop is not pretty or fancy like other places in town, but that’s fine with me cause I just want my sweets! During my last visit, I tried several items: Holland Tarts. I do not know what they were made of. Maybe some almond paste, and there was a hint of apricot maybe? Anyways, it was tasty and priced right.(3.5 stars) Tangerine Cup. Tasted okay, but was not a fan. Wifey liked it more than I did.(3.25 stars) Cinnamon Roll. Had raisins in it. Was not too crazy about that. Still tasted quite good, though. Just the right amount of sweetness.(3.5 stars) Cheese danish. Their Cheese danish was one of the best(if not the best Cheese danish) that I’ve eaten in Bakersfield! Fabulous ratio of cream cheese to danish!(4.5 stars) I look forward to making more trips here in the future. I will not forget about them anymore. By the way, the service was fine and helpful. Prices were excellently affordable!

The lady behind the counter lifted and boxed my pastries with bare hands– no gloves or wax paper. Gross
