Kool air. Beer 3.50. Some food did not bother. Nice bartender. Older crowd at 5pm Saturday. Not bad.

I’ve been to this little hole in the wall bar a handful of times. Drinks are stiff & there is a more mature crowd to party with! That being said, last night I was the DD so I drank water. The bartender was a total jerk to all his customers, he complained verbally & pouted physically to his customers, & then to top it all off made fun of me for being responsible! I didn’t catch his name, but he shouldn’t be tending bar, unless it’s at Dicks Last Resort!

I wish I could give it less than one star. We were in from out of town and wanted a local place. It is a total dive bar. We walked in and everyone stared at us like they were going to kill us. The place has not been updated since 1948. There were broke down tables and very rough looking customers. No one acknowledged us we sat there for 5 minutes and we feared for our lives and we got up and left. Stay away!!! The bartender looked at us several times and even walked by twice and did not even say anything to us. Warning stay away from this place.

Came here with my cousin a few months back and had a good time. The bartender was nice, the beers were cheap and the jukebox had great music on it. Look forward to coming back here again someday.

So me and the fam went to have some drinks and like always we knew where to go to have fun, play some good music, and just bullshit. It has been awhile since i have been there. I have to say nothing has really changed they still have the best service and the bartender makes the best drinks. My family loves this place and will always go back.

Amestoy’s on the Hill, this place is truly a Bakersfield Icon, where do I start? Frank and Marie opened the place in 1948, and its been there since, it’s a neighborhood watering hole, a place where lots of us have grown up, from the dollars we all put on the ceiling or currency we kept from our travels around the world, Frank was the man, he was a hotrodder back in the day — which he used to love talking about when all the hotrodders would roll into town in the fall and the spring, the huge parking lot parties he would have to give back to the community. It’s a chance for friends to gather and have a few, or to make some new ones. Everyone is family at Franks, I’m glad I got to see him while I was home from Afghanistan before his passing, the crowds aren’t huge(unless there is a band or its one of the car show weekends) I hear they have food now. All the same Amestoys is an experience you have to have if you ever get the chance, the drinks are strong, prices are cheap and even if Frank is gone he’s definatly not forgotten.

Love this place and the mix of people to be found here at Amestoy’s. Usually an older crowd, but skews younger(20s-30s on weekends) Several comfy booths ring the perimeter of the bar — and it oozes the retro feel, esp. with the whole enter through the back door set-up. Great jukebox, and stiff drinks. With this place on the Eastside, why go downtown?
