We have always had great food and great service at Café Med. They help support different find raisers with a family dinner coupon which is what we went there to pick up. We have chicken piccata, mashed potatoes, spicy chicken soup and the pita and dip. First off the portions are way more than for 4 to 5 people. I could have been good with the soup and pita and dip. The soup was out of this world!!! Nice chunks of tender chicken with a creamy not too spicy broth. Love this place and have order the family style dinners to go multiple times and will continue to order them.

We had the pleasure of eating here tonight and having Cesar be our waiter. Today is my birthday and I always had excellent dinners at Café Med. We started out with a Hawaiian martini and a glass of cab and Calamari. You have to try the spinach salad and the Caesar salad in a parmesan bowl. They are both excellent. Both our dinners were so good followed up by a wonderful cheesecake. We have been going to Café Med for years and years and it is always five star food and service. Thanks Cesar and Café Med for a great evening.

Made reservations for Valentine’s Day three days prior and I should have listened to the little voice in my head when the hostess informed me that any time was available. Well I didn’t so we arrive around 8:30 and the gentleman with the man bun at the front asked us if we would like a wine menu. Initially we said yes then thinking about it we were going to have cocktails so opted to not when he then replied«do you want it or not» wff! He sat us with the regular restaurant menus and we waited for roughly 5 minutes before we were even approached. The waiter then informed us that rude ass man bun guy gave us the wrong menus and then gave us the Valentine’s Day menus in which he even questioned why these menus were given to us in the first place. We decided on the COLOSSAL grilled shrimp cocktail and were were going to split the filet and lobster as our main course. The shrimp cocktail was ridiculous. I cook a lot so I know shrimp by size. The four non-colossal shrimp served to us were not only not fresh but burnt. I honestly laughed when he brought it out to us. Shortly after our main dish arrived which were split for the two of us, one of the few highlights of our meal. The lobster was warm water lobster and the texture was mush. The filet was cooked well but lacked flavor and the mashed potatoes looked as though they were made hours prior and were just sitting until served. The best thing on my plate were the green beans which come with every entrée. Probably the highlight of most patrons dinners that evening. All in all the dinner was atrocious. Our waiter was friendly I believe his name was Brock. But other than that the dinner was easily the worst that I have ever had paying a $ 150! We even joked as we left that the in and out across the street would have been a better option. As someone who eats out frequently I really wish that Café Med was what it used to be. I wonder how many year they have in them with this level of service. Next time I’ll listen to the voice in my head. Should have just went to the Mark like I usually do even though I couldn’t get a reservation. Oh and Meir if you even read this I would really consider spending your time inspecting the food that leaves your kitchen and the staff that greet your customers. It seems as though the customer experience is not a priority in this out dated, dirty, overpriced restaurant! By the way I decided to give Café Med a second try before writing this review, my last visit was horrible as well. I have been to this restaurant several times prior with varying results all declining with time. I attempted to give the manager some feedback in my last visit but he was just as friendly as the man bun guy. My money will be spent elsewhere!

Had lunch with the bosses after a referral. I thought the chicken panini with fries and greens, was delicious. Great atmosphere, love the deli area, so European. Yup, whenever I am back from LA, it’s a definite lunch stop.

Sad to say that it seems Café Med now prefers being a bar to being a restaurant. A perfectly good meal was ruined by the lounge singer who forgot lyrics to almost every song. Will never return on a «live music» evening. Instead we’ll stick to the family dinners from the deli.

Let down city! Heard the word that this was the premier spot years ago — so we checked it out. Service was strangely bad — disorganized, just plain bad. Food may be 3 stars but when you see the check with the high price, immediately became 2 stars. Overall a definite«tried it will not come back»

A really poor experience at Café Med out with friends after a meeting time 8:15 pm. I ordered a side of Fries and a water since I already had dinner. Most of them ordered meals and dessert and wine. My bill came 12.95. I give my credit card… and wait and wait… over an hour goes by. There was only one other table with customers for the 3 servers.(One so sick he couldn’t speak) then they give my card to my friend having charged my card for her bill. He comes back apologizes takes my card… never to return. The six of us wait and wait and wait. 3 of us 6 still haven gotten their bill yet. Finally I go over to the bar where the owner sits drinking with customers. I have to explain the issue 3 times… he’s too drunk to comprehend what I’m saying. He comes to our table and sloppily tells us not to worry. Then he leaves. Ten minutes go by and two others servers come ask us what the problem is. «Get me my card and reverse the incorrect charges!» More apologies. 10 more min. Finally one server brings my card. I tell him I’m not paying since my bank app shows a $ 22 charge and no reversal. We never saw the owner or his son the waiter or the sick employee again. I will not be going back there again.

Café Med’s seven year itch? 2 Stars = Did not meet my expectations When a couple have been married for seven years, it is believed that at that point in the relationship things cool and people either drift apart or work harder to cement a lifelong relationship. I don’t really believe that, but it makes for a pretentious opening to my review. I do believe, however, that Café Med has made its choice and that doesn’t bode well for fine dining folk in Bakersfield. I have been coming to Café Med for years. When I think of this restaurant I think of two things: their awesome pita and dip as well as their brie-stuffed filet. I used to think about the amazing focaccia paninis until management decided the customers could just eat crappy chibatta bread instead — but I digress. I took the family there tonight because by son is turning 20 years old and chose this place as a «special birthday kind of place». When we arrived we were greeted and seated. We hit the table at approximately 6:30 and today was a Sunday so the place was pretty empty. Austin(I believe) eventually stopped by the introduce himself as our server. We ordered the meal, ate, ordered desert and then left. So what’s the big deal? Service. I thought I could chalk it up to being short-staffed since our server was also playing double duty as the bartender. Every time I kept wondering when he was going to mosey over and check on us he was chatting up folks at the bar or watching the Cowboys/Eagles game. The extreme chaos of having three tables of patrons in the dining area was just too much for this group. We ordered two glasses of wine, five entres and two deserts. It took us 135 minutes to finally pay the check and leave. It would have been longer, but I walked the check to the bar so I wouldn’t continue in limbo forever. The bonus was that the owner was on site. He visited a couple of tables and heartily welcomed them. I overheard him mention that he was friends with so-and-so. I guess our table wasn’t special enough to deserve a «welcome!» or a «how is everything tonight?» or a «Jeez, we are struggling to take care of these three parties, is there anything I can get for you? Desert, a check, more wine?» The only thing that saves this place from complete oblivion and my 1 star review is that the food is actually quite good. Expensive, but I expect that from Café Med. There is a lot of competition for restaurants in this town and if you’ve given up and think that a well prepared meal makes up for poor service, think again. I don’t know when I will be back. .. but it will be a while.

We stopped by at the deli this afternoon to grab a sandwich. I’ve been trying to get my wife, of 13 years to have dinner here for 15 years. I ordered the meatball sandwich, a cheese cake for my wife, and toppings for a pizza my kids want to make this weekend. The lady operating the slicer(sorry I should have asked for your name) made a wonderful recommendation for what toppings to select. They went into the kitchen to provide me the same toppings they use on their pizzas, instead of the one I selected from the deli counter. When we were asking the induvial about the desserts, the same person that was working the meat slicer recommended us the lemon bars. Her enthusiasm won us over. That level of attentiveness won my wife over who now wants to have dinner. Thank you. The sandwich I had was delicious, and completely filling. Not a lot of cheese, and without the sauce spilling out when you take a bit. The missing 5th star was due the cheese cake. My wife is the household authority on cheese cake. But, there were a lot of other wonderful looking dessert to try. The cheese cake might have been having a bad day. It tasted a little too dry. Service — attentive and to the point Food — to be continued, it’s a rather large menu.

First time here. 5:30 pm on a Saturday. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. Chicken was dry. Good thing I added pineapple that helped. Fries didn’t even have a crunch. They were soft and limpy. The staff seemed unorganized and a little confused. might be because the shifts were changing or something. Staff really weren’t smiling or or intentionally nice. Didn’t live up to the hype that I was told. I am a transplant of 5 years. Edited as time is passing: It is taking them forever for give me the check and pay for meal.

Friday nights are crazy. They jam pack everyone in and it’s so loud it’s hard to have a conversation, so if you want a quiet intimate dinner, don’t go there on a Friday evening! The music is fun and the food is always good. A definite home town favorite!

The food and relaxing atmosphere are wonderful!!! Richie Perez is just right!!! And according to my mom the wine is the best!!!(Great selection). The seared Ahi and the pita and dip were outstanding as usual. Our dinners — the Filet and lamb chops were cooked perfectly!!! Enjoying after dinner drinks on the patio, it’s lovely out. Not a place to go for a quick dinner, except if ordered to go. You are meant to sit back and relax and enjoy!

I remember the ad on the radio. First Martini Bar in Bakersfield. Finally a place with class and unique… For years we loved Café Med but something has happened. There is no Quality control on the orders. At least 30% of the time I have to send my glass back because it has lipstick stains on it. The food has become lack luster and poorly prepared. I ordered fresh potato chips– they were limp and greasy. Sent them back and they came at they end of the meal. The waiter didn’t apologize it was like so what. Plenty more restaurants have come to Bakersfield and they know how to bartend better than Café Med.

Thank you to my son for taking me out to brunch for Mother’s Day at Café Med. The food was good, especially the rack of lamb and the strawberry salad. However, there was so much wrong that out weighed the good food. First, they pack too many people in every available space. Every room and the entire outside area had tables. The food was in a very small area so it was difficult to get to the food with all the people. You had to wait in a long line to get the meat or omelet station and there was no way not to be in someone’s way. The dessert table was very picked over and practically empty. The worst thing was that a 20% Service Charge was added to the bill for a table of two. This was a buffet and the silverware was not even on the table. The server brought us two Mimosas. That was it! The service was not worth 20%. This was a fine dining restaurant but now I think they are just being greedy by packing too many people into the place and serving average food.

I went to dinner with a group of 7. The service is by far the reason for the low rating. Our server kept forgetting to bring drinks from the bar, the type of drinks, and even gave us wrong drinks. We basically had to ask for everything… refills, more bar drinks, pita and hummus, dessert, and the check. We even had to ask for the table to be bussed in between courses. The food was alright… nothing really special. The menu had a good selection and they had quite an extensive drink menu. The service was friendly enough, but not at all attentive. So if you have somewhere to be after you eat here, you may want to give yourself an ample amount of time or eat here when you have nothing else to do with the rest of your evening.

My friend and I drove up from OC/LA for a Sunday luncheon for our friend’s baby shower. We initially missed it driving up and had to go around again. It’s in one of the dark little corners in the east side of the shopping plaza! To be completely honest, nothing really jumped out at me here. Oh! Except the service. The luncheon was held in the large banquet room(to the left after you walk in the front doors). Before we even picked a place to sit down, the servers came up and asked us for refreshment orders! :) The food was good, and filling. The buffet items were pre-picked for the luncheon, and I have NO idea what anything was called. Please bear with me. ;) The«bread»(half circle empanada-looking carby item) was soft and delicious, especially when it was still warm! Some areas almost tasted undercooked but eating it with the«dips»(hummus and red+green purée with green olive garnishes) complement nicely. I personally liked the flavor and consistency of the red+green purée better than the hummus. *gasp!* Ohh yes she did. The strawberry salad was yummy indeed! .and all that was left was the fried stuff. Which were good, but I’m not really a big fan of fried. Lots of wine in the store for purchase and ample seating inside to share a meal. Bathrooms are easy to find, just follow the signs. I may never come back here since I don’t live in Bakersfield, but it was a nice place to get together with friends and family! Thanks Café Med for a nice meal and for making sure our iced teas were ALWAYS full. :)

I ordered the lamb gyro sandwich. It was 19 bucks. When the plate arrived I could see my gyro sitting in a nice layer of grease. The pita bread was cut in half and the lamb was stuffed inside. It wasn’t normal pita bread that I am used to seeing either. The whole bottom portion of the pita was completely soaked in the grease. And about half of the top of the pita was soaked in grease as well. Of course as soon as I picked it up the sandwich fell apart, and my hands were coated in grease. Had to use a fork and knife to eat the meat and gave up on the soggy pita bread. Maybe the chicken or beef would have been a better choice, but I won’t know since I’ll probably go to other Mediterranean spots before I come here again.

Terrible!!! Worst food I’ve had at a restaurant. The service was ok. Let me start from the beginning: When we walked in the door we were greeted nicely by the hostess. However, the older gentlemen server behind her was loudly boasting about his $ 80 tip and was hoping for a $ 50 tip from his other customer. We were seated and the bread was fine, the wine was sub-par, and the food was garbage! My «meal» was over salted and drowned in oil. I have pictures if you want to see it. The food was not worth the price we paid, and would have rather thrown it into the street. I only brought the food home with me to give to my dog, but decided against it and threw it away. This place would be great if you only want to sit at the bar and pay for overpriced appetizers.

They DON’T CAREANYMORE! Notice how they do not response to hardly any(I seen one) bad review, they do not care. We use to love this place, had my 40th bday dinner party there and it was the bomb. We’ve noticed a steady decline the last couple times and the last time was the LASTSTRAW. COLDFOOD, sent back, came back STILLCOLD. The waiter was a moron, he didn’t care. This is why CHAIN restaurants are so damn popular in this C– mentality town.
