So basically every time we are in town we come here with the folks. But this time around I finally had it! This place has very delicious food but the only reason I have to give it a one star is because the owners are always arguing very loud in mandarin. When we got the Ching Yen that night we went to wash my daughters hands and as we were walking towards the restrooms we could hear the owners arguing. This is not the first time by the way! It’s all the time we come. Idk what’s the problem but they need to keep it down or take it outside its very rude how there’s customers in the dinning area and you just hear them yelling back and forth. Then the owners wife comes out serving us as if it’s our fault that’s she’s gotten into an argument with her husband. Practically throwing the dishes on our table and looking irritated. But that night we were there their son was helping out in the front and he was talking about to some customers about how things aren’t cooked right and other stuff that is to much to write. He needs to be careful what her says up front there’s others customers listening especially because he was being loud. I really hope that there arguing doesn’t scare off there customers because in the long run there won’t be a Chin Yen sadly. This place has been serving 25+ years it would be sad if the drive away there customers because they can’t keep there family problems home where it belongs.

This place is pretty good, better than most in Bakersfield. I like the egg flower soup, the sizzling rice soup, and the duck is good with the plum sauce. There is a dish with candied walnuts and shrimp that is very good too. The lady that has always waited on us is nice and efficient, but don’t be in a big hurry, Come to find out she is from the same small town in China as my girl, outside Quingdao. The food comes to the table very pretty. I have been going here for maybe a dozen years, if I was from the eastside, I would come more often.

I originally came here because of my friend’s recommendation. Food: Appetizer: egg rolls: they were tiny, and the dipping sauce seemed overly artificial. Main dish: Jjam pong: this was not one of the menu items, we wanted to try theirs since we really love the one that’s served at the Korean BBQ on white lane and also the phở 88 on Coffee. But the noodles were puffy from being in the broth too long and there was nothing spicy that this noodle soup is famous for. 2nd main dish: Broccoli with beef. I had better. Most likely won’t return. I felt like living in SW bakersfield, it’s quite the drive for mediocre food. The location is a little seedy, and I wasn’t impressed with the décor or the plate setting. It may be possible that we didn’t order the right items, I don’t know but I wasn’t impressed, I may come back with my friend who is a regular there.

at first sight from outside its not the most appealing place however the warm coziness inside the restaurant is very luring. the service is sweet as you sit down and wait you can see the waiter call some of the customers by there personal names which is very awesome because who doesn’t like to be remembered at a restaurant. The food is delicious. Very big servings which have a variety of good flavored. The foods is a little price but all worthy of it. You can’t put a price on a good meal. The service is also good which compliments your meal very well. Small cozy place with big bites. A must have try. I also found out about this place through groupon. So yay. Saved a couple of dollars. It’s a must and also a good place to recommend. also ! Don’t forget great service they come around a lot to make sure your doing ok and if you need anything. Which always is a big boost when eating out. They really do focus on customer service. Also ! The sizzling rice soup is so new and interesting to eat it’s a must try.

I have been going to this family owned and operated restaurant since I was a little girl. Not only is the food superb, comforting, the service is friendly and welcoming. The recipe for the egg flower soup is like no other. Believe me, I live in Sacramento now and have tried to find one like it and there’s nothing that can compare. I’ve also tried my fair share of Bay Area eateries and this place remains my top favorite restaurant for Chinese cuisine. The family who owns the restaurant knows my parents well from us just going to eat there throughout the years. I’m now 30 years old and I’m in town visiting my family with my 11 month old son. I cannot wait to try all my childhood favorite dishes. Yum. Five well deserved stars. May this restaurant continue to feed the bellies of Bakersfield customers and forge new friendships.

We came here on a whim after seeing this on groupon. We have been here many times in the past. The owner has become very rude and argumentative. The food is good but the service is horrible

Don’t let the outside fool you! Great service, good food, and very inexpensive! I tried one of the dinner meals along with wonton soup. The wonton soup had a good broth to it. The sizzling Mongolian beef and orange chicken were cooked to perfection. I wouldn’t change anything about the dishes I’ve tried. The owner of the restaurant was sweet and funny! Will definitely be coming back to try more dishes!

This has been a long time favorite of my wife and her family and is some of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. The woman who runs the front is awesome and such a sweet lady and the food is excellent. Highly recommended and worth the trip from anywhere in Bakersfield.

I tried to call for a togo order but no one answered we eventually took the trip to try and eat here which is about 20 mins from the NW… There were quite a few patrons when we got here. Ordered the crab meat rangoon, my wife liked it very much. We then ordered chicken egg fu yong, it was pretty good. We loved the sauce it went with. We also got the mandarin fried rice which was realy good. The crispy duck though was good but a little too dry. All in all our dining experience was great.

The Sizzling Rice soup is all I go for here and of course, the tea! I also tried their candy caramel apple and it was worth it.

Made the long trek to the East side once again! Last day to use a gift certificate, and we couldn’t let it go to waste. We have t been in years, but the owner not only remembers us, she says«long time, no see!!» We start out with their steaming hot tea, and the best egg soup on the planet. If you’re thinking watery egg soup, forget it! This soup is thick, full of veggies, and bursting with flavor. Next up, POTSTICKERS! OMG! These are the very best in town, period. I could eat these alone and be happy. Sadly I had to share with the hubs. The dipping sauce is so delicious, I could drink it. But it’s not socially acceptable. However, if no one is around, I totally drink it with wild abandonOrder your own, you won’t want to share, trust me. Hubs ordered the broccoli beef, I ordered the spicy diced chicken. He got the lunch special, I went a la carte. The servings are generous too. We have so much food left, but I’m totally at peace with that. It’s even better later

Very tasty, the gentleman that helped us was very kind and funny; he even tried to teach my boyfriend Chinese. Really great service, and the family portion for 2 is enough to feed 3. Will be back

First time here. Really good food, you can tell they take pride in their food. We had sweet and sour chicken and a sizzling three meat skillet. Can’t wait to come back and try more things. Not the best part of town, but worth coming here to eat.

Ok. So maybe this is not what you think of as a five star restaurant, but let me explain my rating. The restaurant was cute, decorated with all kinds of kitschy traditional Chinese themed items which gave it a super neat feel. The food was sooo very good. Each dish was delicious and there was a lot of it. We had the pot stickers and the sauce was amazing. The chicken fried rice was very flavorful and the vegetable chow mein was tastey too. For our entrees we ordered cashew chicken and sweet&sour shrimp. I couldn’t stop eating them! I’m normally not a sweet & sour fan but this was amazing. To top it all off, the owners were incredibly friendly. It was clear that they cared about their food and their customers. It was such a great experience and we will definitely be back.

My buddy and I ate here last Thursday and were the only people other than the employees in the restaurant for lunch when we arrived. That was a little concerning to us, but we stayed because we had both been there before(even though it had been years prior) and knew it would be at least okay. We ordered two lunch specials and an order of gyoza. They first served us their egg flower soup and it was dynamite. It had crab meat(perhaps it was imitation crab) and tasted great. Then they served us the gyoza and I think that those may have been the best I’ve ever eaten. Then our entrees came. The presentation wasn’t amazing, but the food was very good. I would gladly come back here any time my buddy suggests it.

I can not believe how this place can ever be rated 4 stars! It was oversalted and just simply poorly prepared. 4 rating star rating. that’s really confusing. Dished were really 1 star. The worst. I didn’t put 1 star only because of the extra almond cookie.

Ching Yen — what happened? Yes, this place is dated. It’s in an iffy part of town. And the front is painted hot pink. Everything about it is just odd — but that adds to it’s character. What lacks in appearance is often made up in service and food. Not so, with Ching Yen. My last two visits over the course of 3 years were satisfactory. The service was always friendly and prompt. This last time was a totally different story. It was our grandfather’s birthday, and Ching Yen is one of his favorite spots. Service was really odd. The waitress reminded me of prep school. We were firmly instructed to sit and look at the menus. She began to walk away without taking our drink orders. Something stopped her, she turned over her shoulder and asked rather sternly if we needed anything to drink? Puzzled, we all rattled off our drink orders(all water and one ice tea, nothing overly confusing). She then looked rather frustrated and muttered something like, «How am I supposed to know if you want something to drink if you don’t ask?» — ehhh??? At times the service was so bad it was comical. And to watch elderly folks become frustrated in tandem with the waitress was equally amusing. Eventually our food came. I’m not sure that what we ordered all showed up… still waiting on that sizzling rice soup. Most of it was not very memorable. For dessert we ordered the candy banana. It was pretty bad. The water wasn’t iced so the sugary exterior was still goopy. Plus instead of dunking, she let them sit in the water. This made them really watery and not pleasant. The food was pretty subpar chinese. I’ve had much better, but unfortunately way worse.

This used to be my favorite chinese place in town. We came here for a birthday and it was a disaster. She forgot the order ticket, we had to beg for our drinks and refills. The food wasn’t that good. The straw that did it for me was hearing the owner yelling in the kitchen at her staff. A good 20 minutes of the meal was her just screaming in the back. Made me uncomfortable and want to leave. Happy Birthday anyways Grandpa!

Really good food, great prices, tremendous selection of all types of Chinese foods! We got the 2– person Silver dinner: great egg drop soup, appetizers, then too much almond chicken and sweet and sour pork. Yummy!!! Excellent service, and beautiful Chinese décor. This will be our Chinese go-to when we’re in Bakersfield !
