This park is where I learned to play tennis. One of only two parks that I know of that have a tennis wall. The other being Martin Luther King which I would not dare play at unless I have a deathwish. The only bad side is there is no signage prohibiting the wall to just tennis. So you have these ex-cons out their playing handball, or just general idiots playing volleyball, soccer or some other sport the wall was not intended for. I do like that they have six courts. I don’t like that the lighting on some of them are quite poor. All in all it’s free, so can’t be too picky. If you want to play tennis, this is a pretty good park to do it and meet some pretty decent players, like me. Haha

I play basketball here every Tuesday nights at 6 – 9:30pm and Sats 9am-noon. Always alot of fun no ghetto argumentative ballers just strait up fun and competitive basketball with a great mix of players. I do wish they would fix up the concrete on the court, its cracked up a bit and water from the night sprinklers sit on the court all day until the sun comes out.

My kids loved the park! A couple of the down falls: 1. The water features didn’t open til 12. They should definitely open up earlier since it’s so hot by noon. 2. The water hoes off frequently n u must put it back on again and it’s not easy to put it back on. Overall we had a great time with the family.

One of my childhood favorite parks! It still has the amazing outdoor theater stage. fun to sing and dance and be silly. They have a water park play area for kids, my son at 12 still likes it. The trees are beautiful and big. But the bummer and reason I only gave 3s is The Bathrooms… ugh …very very indeed of HELP, filthy, no T.P.and its way to dark and scary to let little ones go in for sure… trash cans full of rubbish and massive Flies… Please parks and req… keep this area up… its a lovely place for rge most part.

Jastro Park was built in 1917, and has been in use as a park for well over 80 years. There are a number of different amenities offerred here which are sure to please just about everybody. There are six or seven tennis courts in the Southwest corner of the park. There is one full size basketball court with nets still attached to the the hoops, as wel as several horseshoe courts. There is plenty of grass with shady old growth trees to run around on or to just sit and enjoy one of the outdoor concerts performed from the permanent bandstand. There is a large play structure as well as swings. There is even a rather large water feature to help keep cool on those sizzling Bakersfield summer afternoons. There are picnic tables with barbecue grills spaced around the grassy area of the park, as well as two large semi covered areas with a large number of picnic tables that can be reserved and rented out. There’s a little something for everyone at Jastro Park, even a monument to Korean War Veterans on the Southeast corner. Come check out this park for a little summertime in-town getaway fun!

Decent park downtown Bako. Has 4 tennis courts and a wall court. Only one basketball court though go on a friday or weekend and usually guys playing on them but they usually friendly and will let you join.(including me who sucks at basketball haha) For little kids during the summer their is a mini water park which is cool for them to cool off at during a hot summer! There are 4 different sand pits with different playground sets. 3 swing sets, one is the little toddler types with the leg holes. Also has lots of spots for picnics, benches, and tables. A cool gazebo. A ton of big nice shady trees and a little area to play with your dogs and has baggies! NOFENCETHOUGHSONODOGSBADABOUTSTAYINGCLOSE!!!

We were traveling to San Jose back from the Grand Canyon and needed a pit stop to let our son out to play. Big thumbs up to the City of Bakersfield for offering the splash features! My son loved them! The park was clean and not overly crowded. The only downside is that the playground structures are not covered so after a morning in the Bakersfield sun, they were too hot to play on by noon.
