Jeanne’s Westfair

Visited last night with some friends after having not been here in years. The bartender had no personality and honestly seemed like she was bothered to have to make the drinks. I will give them credit that the drink prices are fair ($ 5.25 for a Jack & Coke) and they pour heavily. My Jack and coke was a glass of jack and a shot of coke, so you’ll get your money’s worth.
However, don’t expect to use a debit or credit card. This bar is stuck back in the day when people carried cash, which I rarely do. I had to use their off-​brand ATM to get cash to pay for our drinks. It charges a $ 3.25 service charge (plus whatever your bank charges you). I don’t understand why a bar would be cash only. You’re limiting people to spend what they have on them, but if you accept cards, they’d be more likely to spend more without realizing how much they’ve spent.
Music was WAY too loud for such a small place. It makes it damn near impossible to socialize or speak to anyone. You have to be within 2 feet of another person to understand what they’re saying. I enjoy loud music, but this was too much. I’ve had better luck hearing people talk to me at rock concerts than I did at the Westfair.

All I have to say is… Accept credit cards. Running a bar as «cash only» is stupid. My friends and I would have spent WAY more money if we could have used our credit or debit cards. Who carries cash anymore anyways?! It’s ridiculous that you don’t accept cards especially when YOUR ATM IS OUT OF ORDER.

This used to be one of the best Hangout spots in Bakersfield… I spent MANY a night here shooting pool, playing shuffleboard, cranking the juke box and drinking with friends… But now it’s just another bar full of Ghetto trash… Managers have allowed bad elements to take over the bar I really hope that it goes back to the way it used to be… I LOVED hanging out at the Westfair… And hope to again one day soon…

Let’s say 2.5 stars, but certainly not 3. Lack of air conditioning made the pool room a sweaty mess and while the drinks were cold and priced well, it took forever to inspire the bartender to bother. The men’s room smelled like a bum urinal under a bridge. Everything wrong with this place could be easily turned around with more effort.

I been here a few times and I have always found the service of the bartenders to be sub-​par especially for a dive bar, not nice not at all the younger fake blond hair lady is a b****, and why is the older dirty blond hair lady seemed to be drunk when I went, I thaught the bartenders are not supposed to be drinking on the job? Always felt to be bothering them to get a drink. The drinks are more higher priced $ 11 for a pitcher of budlight, eleven dollars for flat beer thats some bs right there. My friend got a drink and the glass still had some lipstick on it disgusting! Needless to say I wont be back will prob. Try Cheers or the Belvedere a few blocks away.

John is an excellent bartender and drinks are cheap! Nice place to escape on a week night. AND, they have shuffleboard!
