This food is absolutely delicious. I was afraid to try Indian food but when I did I was hooked. The Chicken Tikka Masala is fantastic. Kelly is as friendly as the reviews describe her to be.

What a gem! Not the most updated atmosphere, but warm and welcoming nonetheless. I was pleasantly surprised with the menu. We had goat curry, chicken tikka masala, and vegetable samosas. Quick, friendly service. They do have burritos with an Indian twist, but we went full Indian for our first taste. So good. Flavor. Just good.

(This review is for the Tandori Grill only, not the bbq catering.) I LOVE the Indian food. So much. It’s just good. And you can taste how fresh it is. Also, it’s plenty of food to fill you up at fantastic prices. You really can’t go wrong here! I’ve had a couple of things but my favorite, and now go-to, is the Chicken Tikka Masala combo. It comes with white rice, a salad, and naan. Their salad dressing is very good and the naan is perfect. They make the naan from scratch as its ordered! So fresh! And it comes to you very warm and you can just eat it alone, it’s so good! I’ve already had some this week and I want to have some more again, it’s seriously that good! And this combo has just a little bit of spice that makes it the perfect meal! Yum! Run and try anything with some naan and tell me how much you like it! I swear, you will not regret it! The service is fantastic too. The –only– downside is the place is a little old and run-down in kinda a bad side of town but the Indian food is well worth it! Enjoy!!!

Kelly’s is quality Indian food at an affordable price. It’s a delicious little hole in the wall type of place but the food is amazing. Don’t let the exterior fool you. Give this place a try and I promise you’ll become an instant regular

So first off I have to say that I hated to give this place a 2 star review. The staff was truly welcoming and attentive. This review is for dine-in Indian food ordered off the menu. Maybe it really is just meant for take out! The food was about average when it came to Indian food. I was quite bummed when the naan came out on a styrofoam plate that it had burned through. Our plates and silverware were all disposable(plastic/styrofoam/aluminium foil), and the whole restaurant dining area seemed very run down. In fact, there were two buckets catching rain in the middle of the floor. I really hope the dine-in experience improves, since I really liked the folks who were working there, and the prices are really great.

My husband and I love this place. Kelly, who also owns Western Kitchen Catering, catered our recent wedding and did a FANTASTIC job. Not only was the food delicious and memorable, but Kelly handled business with us in a friendly yet professional manner. Since the wedding, we have become frequent patrons of her Tandoori Grill and love it too. The food(and curry) is superb, and I always look forward to her smiling face. Great place to go for lunch and have a chicken wrap, made with fresh naan and accompanied by salad with a perfect yogurt dressing. Try anything on the menu with a delightfully refreshing mango lassi. Yum!

We decided to use a restaurant dot com coupon at Tovars Mexican restaurant but found they had gone out of business. We remembered the Western Kitchen BBQ and decided to stop there. Arriving we saw a sandwich board sign out front«Kelly’s Tandoori Grill» but a building sign Western Kitchen BBQ. Now we were confused but decided to stop anyway. Going inside you could see an immediate change. The front counter was extended and there is now a nice but small dining area. Being used to the old menu we looked and found a similar one. I decided to have the rib plate and the wife the deep pit sandwich. Both were very good. The ribs now are prepared with Indian spices. Very very good. Extremely friendly and clean. I recommend trying it.

Miss driving down 34th street to Kellys Tandori there really had charm. Guess it was like a house. Rustic lighting. And the buffet area was so cutely situated. Even the ordering area was blissful. The view therof. The peoples immersed in a cute kitchen. Dining area had so much character. I don’t know if it was the tables. Or the Nurses, Med Techs and the Doctors eating at the Tables. Kelly’s Tandori 34th street(near Memorial Hospital) was special. Haha. Maybe it was their cute parking lot that was the charm(believe me! theres no charm parking on Chester Ave near 4th). Anyways this was a community charm with its cool neat experience. Kelly’s Tandori Chester ave. Well… Temporary giving 3.5 stars. For total experience. Least till I’D eaten at this location Theres like at this location 6 Unilocal reviews. And Im the only one posting pictures with my review. Wish Kelly would have moved into the old La Costa Marisco location. Which was like a Charming house. Anyways this was 3pm. And I did’nt feel hungry. However if it was smoking tri tip on a BBQ pit… I would have Bit I will complete this review and its rating after I tried the Tuesday or Thursday non-vegie Hala buffet. Today’s Kelly Special offered a Goat Combo special. Funny was I looked at Unilocal today to see what that goat Special would looks like… before I would order. Anyways Unilocal’Rs have’nt been generous on the Foodies Pictures Front. I’d just know Kelly can cook good food. I’d did see them making a Tri Tip sandwich plate. 3 Thick slice Tri Tip taken from a Bath of Au Juice warming in a pan. Slabbed onto a hoagie. Looked Tasty. Looked moist. I love goat. Someone, aka Unilocal’R, please post some goat dinner pictures. Ok. Been Thinking. Yeah. Here is not like a true Indian sit in experience. Can’t order several Vegie dishes with complement of couple meats Delights. But Kelly do close at 5. I do hope in their Buffet Presentation that they will have like 5 – 6 Trays to explore. If I recall Kelly’s 34th street had like 4 – 5. Not counting naan. But as I left Kelly today I believe I saw like three empty Trays in the Buffet area which Gosh… by the way was like in a weird situated place. Ok. South side inside building parallel Chester Ave’s Sidewalk. Literally just closely left where customers pay bill. This just so Gosh UnCute!!! And not the least Bit Charming. Think of the Chester Ave crowd coming in to order pay for sandwiches, chip or just soda and Fluffying Spice off their clothes so close to the Buffet Trays My review. I meant all the above in a good way. For Kelly to Improve this location. Makes Unilocal’Rs, Foodies excitited to post reviews and pictures(like Bakersfield’s Unilocal Elite 15 McKensie S with 9 check in’s at Kelly’s Tandori 34th street). And say it was a wonderful experience. Carefully evaluate any 5 Unilocal stars posted here. Many us Unilocal’Rs are guided by an Immersion Judgement. And 5 Unilocal stars may not come as easily for Kelly’s Chester Ave. If it was 5 stars… Word of Mough in Bakersfield community would have resulted in many many Unilocal reviews and Foodie pictures. Least you expect many from Kelly’s old 34th street regulars

Not good if you are expecting Indian food. Very limited choices. Cleanliness was okay. Would not recommend. Came here off the freeway, looking t 5 stars, but that’s a lie. One star that’s what this place deserves.

This place is a gift to downtown and Bakersfield, in general. Fusion gets thrown around a lot, but this place feels like super heroes combining the forces for their ultimate good. Amazing spicy beef and chicken curry burritos will make you weep tears of joy. They are now in the old western kitchen building with an expanded menu to include the old american standard fare, but the true love in the cooking shines through their original menu. I’m so happy to have Kelly’s in my life. If you can get there between 10:30am and 5pm Mon-Sat, you will be too!

Western Kitchen has been bought by Kelly of Kelly’s Tandoori grill(formerly on 34th street across from Memorial Hospital). What a difference! When we walked in, the little dining room was packed and the place smelled divine. The food? Oh my gosh. Soooooo good. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala combo for $ 7.99. I also got a sweet lassi. The salad was fresh and crisp with cucumbers and strawberries, the rice was delicate and cooked perfectly, the naan was cooked in the tandor and was like the platonic ideal of naan. The raita was a perfect counterpoint to a truly brilliant and complex Chicken Tikka Masala. The thighs had been slow cooked and the sauce was a curry with good heat and deep flavor(not just masala flavors but fresh cilantro and something that tasted like a bit of mint in there, too). The lassi was made with the same strong, fresh yogurt that the raita was made with. It was the sweet, cold relief that led me to clean my plate. Yeah. It’s the kind of food that makes you feel loved.

Love love love this place. It’s still Western BBQ and catering, but they got bought by Kelly’s and the place has never been better. Wife got the chicken tika masala and I got a hybrid Pakistani/Mexican burrito. Now mine was fantastic housing a spicy chicken, grilled onions, decent refried beans, and a light basmati rice(mint chutney on the side). It was like a curry burrito. I have prayed for this. I have failed at making it. And here, I can buy it.(single tear of joy running down cheek) But, the winner was the tikka masala. Just heavenly. Just enough spice to give it a kick but not enough to send you to the emergency room, and a gentle hint of mint and cilantro. Oh so tasty. Light fluffy naan and some lassi’s and we were set. Expect to wait a bit, since the lunch crowd can be thick, but it’s worth it. It’s so worth it.

Went there for take-out. Not a pleasant impression when you enter. It’s really, really messy, undanitary and visually displeasing. Everything seems old and in bad shape(seats, ceiling, equipments etc). The naan which was very small, was burnt and dry. Got chicken tikka masala which was decent. Potato pakora was uncooked and really awful. And the rice was definitely really old. I don’t recommend it until they work on cleanliness and taste.
