I came to this place with high expectations based on high star reviews. My first time eating here was not as expected, I figured try it again. So after two times in as many weeks, it is just OK in my opinion. I did not experience the super service others speak so highly about. It was not bad service, just OK. The food, well I have had street tacos equal to these in scores of places in at least a dozen states. The potato tacos were different from anything I had ever eaten before, but I did not write my momma about them. I will try them again, one day maybe I will figure out what all the fuss is about.

Food Trucks in Bakersfield have been here as some people state, particularly at the swap meet. However they are starting to pop up more and more and I am loving it. I grew up visiting food trucks since a kid, I used to frequent the swap meet in Earlimart and Porterville with my mother, they were mostly taco trucks though. Now you get such a huge variety here ranging from Mexican to BBQ to Mediterranean, etc. Loncheria Otro Rollo has been on my Bookmarked radar for quite some time, I can’t lie here, I have overlooked them when going through my Bookmarks when deciding what to eat. It wasn’t on purpose, just don’t know why to be honest. One day one of my colleagues wanted to grab lunch and wanted to try something new. I scrolled through my bookmarks and all of a sudddn, Loncheria Otro Rollo just popped out at me, so I suggested it and off we went. This food truck sits between a Chevron and Shake-n-Buns on White Lane and can easily be missed if not paying attention. When we approached the truck was started looking at menus but then we were welcomed by one of the ladies. She had a very warming hello and wanted to show us their menu on the iPad they use as a register. She showed us pictures of what they offer, explained what each item was and made suggestions to the chile sauce. And she took alot of pride in their menu and knew it from heart because she wasn’t looking at the iPad as she presented this show and tell, a damn good business woman. I chose the combination plate which is half of a torta of choice and two potato tacos. I picked the Torta Ahogada which has the torta dipped in their chile sauce, I believe a chipotle sauce. I opted for the hot version, the lady advised it is very hot but I was game! The potato tacos have the sauce drizzled over them along with shredded lettuce, carne asada chunks, sour cream and crumbled cheese. Now while waiting for our food, which we chose to sit at their tables they have, we were given thinly sliced potatoes that had ketchup drizzle over them. They are a food truck who knows that service means alot, this creates a restaurant-ish feel to it with an appetizer. They also provide this when you are ordering to go while you wait too. The Torta Ahogada was super spicy, but oh my god it was freaking deliciously memorable, I give 5 Stars!!! The potato tacos, which I’ve had home made by family and friends, but these were potato perfection, a booming 5 star perfection. The thinly sliced potatoes were okay, nothing bad but not super however I am a sucker for fried potatoes and ketchup! Maybe I am a sucker for great service, excellent food and food trucks, but if you haven’t tried this spot you are definitely missing out. Plus their prices are very reasonable, for my combination plate I believe it was about $ 7, only thing is they do not sell drinks, however Chevron is a 30 second walk for any beverage need.

Great chicken taquitos that I’ve tried in a long time. Me and my husband were craving something fast and delicious and this lonchera hit the spot. My husband ordered the torta ahogada and was not disappointed. That delicious red salsa that they add made me remember my mothers home cooked meals. The costumer service was great, the lady was very nice and friendly. To top off this delicious meal, I ordered their flan :)!!! Very satisfied. Keep up the good work guys !

This has to be one of my favorite places in all of Bakersfield. This hidden gem serves a torta ahogada that is reminiscent of my early days in Jalisco, Mexico. Perfect venue for a quick lunch break on a busy work day!

This place is amazing! I am from San Fernando valley but I live in Merced. Every time I come down to San Fernando Valley, I stop to eat here. I love the tacos de barbacoa; my wife love the tortas ahogadas! Check this place out!!! It’s delicious

After having tried to find this truck twice before, we were pleasantly surprised to find it today. From the very beginning of our experience, I was wowed. The menu is in Spanish, and we were a little hesitant to order, but the girl who took our order quickly recognized our reluctance and offered up a tablet with actual pictures of the menu. She was very upbeat and helpful, and suggested the torta ahogada/potato taco combo to my husband. He was sold, however I’m always on the hunt for a good taco, so, I ordered Carne Asada tacos and a quesadilla for the toddler. They offered us some complimentary papas, while we waited for our food. When the food was ready, the owner also brought us each a complimentary barbacoa taco. We both enjoyed our food immensely. The salsa that came with the torta was hot, the meat in my tacos was wonderful, and the potato tacos were something completely new to us. We really enjoyed them. We asked about them after the meal, and the girl who took our order beamed with pride as she talked about her mother being from Guadalajara, and all of the food being from that region of Mexico. I have been to The Mark, Steak and Grape, and various other«higher end» restaurants in town, and none of them compare to the service we got today. The only reason I gave a 4 star rating is because this woman and her family would shine in proper restaurant, and trying to wrangle a toddler on such a busy roadway took away from the experience for myself. Other than the toddler wrangling, there isn’t a single bad thing I could say about this place.

This place is legit!!! The owner and her staff can rival any business(not just restaurant) when it comes to customer service. This establishment just gets«it.» I drive 15 minutes one way to get their food. I will brave the heat, cold, traffic, and smog to get my fix. It’s always worth it. In Bakersfield, I put this place in my top 5 places to eat. Take if from a person who worked in the food industry for almost 10 years, Loncheria Otro Rollo is a place you CANNOT miss.

We loved everything here. The potato tacos were the best new dish I’ve tried in awhile. It’s just a plate of 3 fried tacos filled with mashed potatoes, and then covered in lettuce, tomatoes, carnitas and a sweet salsa. The owner was really friendly and made sure to show us photos of everything on her iPad, and with she went over what ingredients each dish is made with. We’ll be back.

Okay I don’t really know where to start except to say that I absolutely love this place. It holds a special place in my heart being an employee who has to drive up and down the 99 freeway on a daily basis. occasionally, I have to spend a week at a time in Bakersfield. This place… this place… is the only reason I agree to do that! They remember me every time and treat me with the best care one could ask for! There really isn’t much more to say. The food… I will make it short. It is fantastic, I truly haven’t had a single thing that I do not like. However, if I were tasked with making a reccomendation, it would have to be the gemma!!! Go there, get food, get full.

Otro Rollo has been getting a decent amount of press lately and it’s all well deserved. Raquel is so wonderfully sweet and makes some of *the best* food in town. Everything here is great, but the Tacos de Papa cannot be missed.

What a disappointment. I should up today: 9/25/15−5:30pm and the truck was not at the location. I tried to call the number given on Unilocal and there was no answer. I support local businesses but when you make plans to visit a place with SOMANY good reviews, and there is no truck in site, it’s terribly inconvenient and sad. Oh well, my business will go elsewhere. Thanks.

A very nice lady with her red taco food truck serves delicious mexican foods. First time on trying potato tacos and they’re delish! Definitely prefer them over the regular taco. So crunchy, flavourful potatoes and adding hot sauce makes them oh so yummy! Don’t forget to try the delicious assortment of sandwiches too! Excellent foods with equally good price! Will come back for more. :)

10 stars!!! Awesome service and awesome food! Raquel was very accommodating to our vegetarian diets! So much more than expected! Vegetarians get the potato torta and potato taco combo! Everything was perfectly seasoned and just the right about or spice. My new fav!!!

Cruising back to LA and craving some Mexican, ideally close to the highway. Saw this spot and decided to give it a try. Showed up right after they’d closed but Raquel insisted she serve us and opened back up recommending the torta ahogada. She brought out complimentary potato chip/fries that were unexpected and excellent and quickly disappeared. Five minutes later we were served and had the most delicious Mexican sandwich I’d ever consumed. Excellent service, excellent food, close and quick. What more could you want? Highly recommended when passing through town

Delicious. Tried their signature sandwich, which is essentially a pork tri tip in spagettii sauce. But trust me when I say it is tastier than it sounds. I asked for my hot sauce on the side and then accidentally spilled it over half of the sandwich. Didn’t worry about it, since I’m Mexican, but the heat drove me to run for a bottle of milk to fight the fire. The one complaint I have is that there were no beans on my torta(they were out, it happens) and my carnitas were dry. Small menu, friendly service delicious sandwich can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu

This is my 1st time here and we found this place on Unilocal!Service was great and food was excellent! I’ve had other tortas in town and this was by far the best!!! Also the potato taco is soon good and very different from traditional tacos. Price was a deal. Definitely coming back again!!!

Raquel’s warmth and incredible food has changed my whole perspective on Bakersfield. Otro Rollo will definitely be a stop on any trip through the city. Her food is incredible because it makes no attempt at being overly complicated; it is simple done well, and made with pride and love.

Fyi, I’m not a pro. I’m just a normal guy who loves to eat. I started Unilocaling so I could help others find delicious places to eat. I first came here a few years ago when this little truck first opened. I remember I got a carne asada burrito and didn’t think much about it. After a few years, many great Unilocal reviews, and somewhat of a makeover I still think this place is just good. It doesn’t blow my socks off and I wouldn’t make it a regular spot, but the food is good. This time around I got a carne asada torta and two bacon wrapped hot dogs with baked chips. The carne asada torta was pretty good. The sour cream was deliciously spread across the lightly toasted bolillo roll and the flavor of the sour cream and the roll were probably the most delicious flavored parts of the torta. The meat was pretty flavorful as well; however it felt a bit cold. I know the torta was freshly made, but I expected the meat to be hotter. It wasn’t cold but just didn’t feel hot enough for being just cooked, which I assume it was just cooked. The bacon wrapped hot dogs were also delicious. However, I feel the dogs were too small. The one thing I did love about the hot dogs was that they were presented beautifully. You wouldn’t expect that from a food truck, but the meal had presentation! You can tell the cook was proud with her work, and I commend her on that. I loved it. The tomatoes and onions mixed well with the mayo and ketchup. The dogs definitely were very flavorful. A real treat were the home made baked potato chips. They looked all natural. Again, the problem I had was that they felt too cold. I don’t think they were just fried. They probably make a batch every hour or so, and that makes it lose its flavor/quality. In conclusion, the food does have flavor. However, it could be better. The hot dog and potatoes combo was $ 3.25. I added a second dog and I have a feeling I was charged for a second hot dog meal, because my total was $ 11.90. If that’s the case, the torta would’ve been around $ 4.50-$ 5. I don’t mind the price, but I would’ve appreciated a second serving of potatoes if I was going to be charged for them. The pricing was still decent for the food. Last thing… I hate comparing restaurants, but that’s how I know which places to choose to eat at over other locations. If you are looking for a bacon wrapped hot dog, I would hit up El Cacheton on Niles. Totally worth it! I looked for bacon wrapped dogs in Bakersfield for years, and that place is my spot. Sorry, Loncheria Otro Rollo you’re gonna have to step your game up on the dogs.

For all the 5 Star reviews that claim this place is so Bomb!, Pancho says you’ve never been to Jalisco, Mexico! Their claim to fame is the Torta Ahogada but they do have other items on the menu but I really don’t remember what they were, they did have some fried potato tacos topped with carnitas they I regret not trying. Look for the little Red trailer I believe in a Gas station parking lot Torta Ahogada — Nice to see they do use the traditional birote salado, but with all the rave reviews I was highly disappointed. The biggest issue was the salsa. A traditional torta ahogada uses TWO sauces, first a Tomato sauce then a Chili sauce/salsa, Loncheria Otro Rollo’s tomato sauce is heavy handed with the Mexican Oregano and salsa was mild to almost nonexistent. The Carnitas were OK, cut up in smaller cubes I wanted more meat, the sandwich was OK at best but far from the 5 Star Bomb other Unilocalers claim it is.

It’s the little red mobile kitchen next to the Chevron station. Very fresh and flavorful. I had the carnitas torta. The roll was not the traditional bolillo but more of a sourdough bread. Different but good. The carnitas were tender and full of flavor. My brother had the tacos dorados topped with pork meat which I got to try and must say were finger licking good. The ladies are are as nice as can be. They gave us some papas and ketchup while we waited for our food.
