Milan Institute

I was a student at beauty school oh so long ago. And I don’t know if I’m just old now or if it’s just changed a lot. But when I walked in to my appointment with a friend of mine for eyelash extensions I was a little shocked.
This almost looked like a hair salon with a seating area with padded chairs and big posters hanging from the ceiling of hair styles. And all the students in jeans. When I went to school it was so industrial. White uniforms, very institutional looking. I’m glad to see that you can learn in a more realistic atmosphere.
The only thing that I was taken back was that the students were all gathered up at the front chatting and giggling looking on phones. Seems like they needed to be doing hair more than looking on phones. Just saying.

Every time I take my family here I have nothing but problems. The staff is very rude, I mean very very rude. They are cheap but then again they are only practicing. The manager is extremely unprofessional. I would highly suggest they take some classes on etiquette. I’m going to take my business elsewhere and pay a little bit more so that I don’t have to be looked down upon while my husband and kids get there haircut.

They’re students, who as students, do a decent job. Their floor manager checks their work and makes corrections as needed. Periodically, they have $ 4 haircuts. Ive never had issues with their masseurs. Always professional. I read someone’s post about the students being loud; I’ve never had that experience. They talk like any group of people in any establishment but nothing to indicate that it’s has a clubbing like vibe. Overall, I enjoy going for my haircuts and massages.

Sighhhh, every time I come here I’m disappointed. Sooo very un-​professional here. The students at the hair salon are loud and un-​professional. The workplace is always dirty along with the restrooms. I feel embarrassed for the staff/​teachers as they allow this to continue. I only come for massages but will NEVER trust my hair or face or feet to this place or the people.(color, facials, pedicure s). Very unprofessional and down right disgusting to have students reek of cigarettes! Come on guys, have some pride. The hours for massage here aren’t very accommodating.

This place is horrible! I went in to get my hair colored and when I was waiting I saw so many customers complaining of there services. As I got to my chair the students around me started gossiping about another classmate. They gossiped so much that’s when I realized that school was just like high school. It took my girl two hours to dye my hair! My hair isn’t even long (shoulder length) I wouldn’t go back there again! It seemed like that place had so much drama and was very unprofessional.

This school is unprofessional and not worth your money. I was in massage therapy class and one of the teachers name Jessica wanted to feel accepted by students and smoked weed in the parking lot with the students in their car every lunch break. When she came back to class most of the students were high and the teacher graded me incorrectly and gave me a low grade during a test. I had all «A’s» and worked very hard to get all «A’s». Most of the time students would-​be on their phones during class or stare and gossip because the teacher would not have her things organized before class started. There is another teacher name Mario who had great information about massage, but just seemed like he hated being at school teaching and was burnt out. He always had an attitude and had his favorites. I reported both but no one did anything because it seemed like everybody that worked there had certain clicks. One classmate was bullied all the time by other female students. She was really pretty and some of the girls including «Jessica» the teacher gossiped about her. This girl was kicked out of school for sticking up for herself and had no fair argument of what happened. It was all these girls & teacher against her. Then months later the school asked this girl if she would like to come back. She told them she will not because of the professionalism of the school. They also do not clean their hot rocks correctly for sanitation. Classmates just used the rocks and put them back in the dirty hot oil to be used again. Once you step into this school, you will feel the weird vibe it has. They have kicked a lot of other students out and Milan Institute lost some of the cases.

Was looking into going to Cosmo schools. A lot of people go here so I decided to check it out. It’s roomy and not cramped like Marinello. The graduation rate is okay but the placement rate is low. So they don’t really help students find jobs like other schools. You don’t get to wear all black like some of the other schools. Instead you wear there logo shirt and loose black pants, can’t even wear tights. You want to be cute in cosmetology school not wear a uniform. The school seems to be a little unorganized though. I took a tour of the school most of the students just stared at me like I was a alien. Lunch room was beyond small like for less than 5 people. I talked with a couple of the students. They looked beyond miserable. Why would someone take out such a huge loan and not be happy about your school. Something tells me the students aren’t enthusiastic about this school. Financial aid advisor was very helpful and friendly. Plus you don’t have to make payments while in school. If I was going to live in Bakersfield I probably would have went here.

The down side… I was getting a thick weave of blonde in my hair and the girl doing my hair seemed to be a new-​ish student. She completely did not do my roots-​maybe an oversight because they were closing soon and we were running out of time. No matter what the reason it did not look good at all… my hair was also uneven with stripes of different color. The student was very sweet though!

Been here twice and both times they have done a pretty good job but its the wait that kills you. Then again you dont want them rushing on your hair but be prepared to WAIT for a long time for a dye or haircut

I have been coming to Bakersfield’s Milan Institute for massages for many years. I scheduled a massage for myself and an employee for 1845 hours tonight (05−22−14). I arrived early to check us in and was told one appointment was for 1845 and the other (mine) was for 2000 hours, «was that okay.» Of course not. Kristen (sp?) at the desk called upstairs several times before someone answered. She was told that Samantha spoke to me personally yesterday about moving the appointment to the later hour and that Fidel, the instructor, left a voice mail for me with the same information. I did not receive a call from either of them. My phone is on my person at all times. I do not think either of them called me and I was irritated but did not «act out.» What I did was ask for the names of those who allegedly called me so I could write this review. I also let the staff at the desk know I would never return and that I would be complaining about this.
I know mistakes can be made but ownership should be taken and not push it off of the client as if I did not pay attention to my messages. Why would I have shown up at 1830 if Samantha spoke to me and Fidel left a voice mail?
Now that I am writing a review I will continue with other issues that I typically overlook because I know the industry has a lot of young people aspiring to be in this field as well as the cosmetology part of the Institute. Students push right up to the front of the desk, ahead of customers and clients and demand the attention of the receptionists. They complain loudly about whatever is bothering them, while we, the clients stand nearby and have to listen. I have also overheard petty gossip while I sat in the waiting room.
This review is already long enough so I won’t continue on ALL of the things unprofessional and inappropriate; but I will end with this: I am a massage therapist, trained at the best school in Bakersfield (Bakersfield Bodyworks and Massage Supplies) and we learned to be professional at all times, unlike these students. My hope is someone in authority reads this and modifies the behavior of the students.

I understand that this is a «LEARNING» institute and I came by since the sis in law is here in the esthetician program. I had to get the brows in line. But, I couldn’t resist the $ 35 color, cut and style.
I must say right now that the CUT I got was one of the best cuts I have ever had. It has been 2 weeks since, I have very curly and unruly hair, and a bad hair cut could be very traumatic. But, my hair falls very nicely and looks so healthy. My color is consistent throughout, but my scalp did burn a lil, which i did feel some tingling and the instructor was told but none of us were alarmed, until the next day and my scalp had some flaking from the burning. All better now and truly blame the tough detangling of my hair prior to application of the color is to blame. During the cut another instructor came by and really did a great job by helping blend my layers with a straight blade.
In general, I loved my experience… I will be back. My only concerns are the level of professionalism at the front desk and in general was a litlle more casual than I expected. But, I don’t knock them too much for it because I do realize this is a beauty school and for a beauty school they get pretty busy.

Pretty good place for a cheap massage and haircut. But they are students and so dont expect the best. some of the haircuts can get pricey and end badly. as a guy its hard to ruin my hair but ive hear horror stories of womens hair being ruined. The massages though are fantastic but its hard to get good front desk service. hence only a 3 star good but the customer service was lacking.

Went for another service and had my hair washed and trimmed and got a STAPH INFECTION. I will NEVER return here for any reason. Was thinking of going to school here but NO WAY. Terrible Terrible customer service also. The one other time I went I asked for several inches off of my hair. Stupid idiot took off five. After the first cut, I jumped out of the chair and ran out the door but gave her a damn tip because I felt sorry for her. That night they called and told me that if I did not pay for my service, they would call the police for theft. I went the next day and paid. So. .. if you want to be treated terribly, get a staph infection and get all of your hair whacked off by a moron. .. .feel free to go here. Milan Institute, you are what the French call Les Incompetant!!!

Been coming to Milan Institute for nearly 2 years, this is the 1^st time I’ve written a review. The school is great! Each of the students & instructors knows what their doing, never had a problem!

DO NOT COME HERE!!! I understand these kids ARE STUDENTS but geeesshhh check out the prices of their services. Milan’s pricing and services ratio is absurd. I suggest that you take your money and run to a professional esthetician or massues.
