Rollerama

My friends and I brought our kids here today for the holiday. We were reminiscing about our times spent at our local skating rinks. Some of my best childhood memories come from skating with friends for fun, birthday parties, or for school fundraisers.
This rink does not have air conditioning. It’s HOT in Bakersfield during the summer. I refuse to bring my kids here in the summer for that reason alone. It’s miserable. That’s why I chose today to bring them and it was actually very nice inside.
I like that they play the same games and have the same races as my local rink. They play the limbo, hokey pokey, the number game, and they have racing. I remember growing up, my local rink gave away tickets for the 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd place skaters who won the races. You could redeem the tickets for something at the snack bar. Here, they don’t get anything, I don’t think. My son won 2^nd place today and he didn’t get anything.
I actually think it’s quite expensive. It’s $ 7 admission and $ 3 for skate rental. I only come if I have a coupon.
The snack bar is actually affordable. Whatever we have gotten has been good. Their pizzas are delicious too.
My boys enjoy their time and hopefully their experiences leave lasting memories like my own. But, like I said, I’ll only bring them when it’s cooler outside and if I have a coupon.

This place is horrible! The people that work there are rude! Mostly the owner and what looks to be his son. We actually were there on Tuesday, they tried to rip my 10 year old off, by selling him a defective toy. My son told them that is was defective and they took it back from him with no refund and said to go skate. After pondering on it my son when back because he know that wasn’t right and they still wouldn’t give him his money back. So my husband had to ask the young man working there for the money. They didn’t seem to mind returning it once he delt with it. We went there for an after school fundraiser, which coast $ 6 person with skate rentals included for only 2 hours. My son brings his own skates, my daughter on the other is 4 and is just learning. So after one time around the rink my husband asked the man that owns the place if he could get one of the learning racks that are made out of pvc pipe so she could learn to skate. At this time the owner said to him very rudely it would be an addition $ 5 just like the defective toy you bought. With what had already happened my husband was outraged by the owners demeanor decided since he had been there for less than 30 minutes and been treated so rudely and them trying to rip my son of that he wasn’t going to support a business that treats people in this disgusting manor. As a child growing up here in Bakersfield we I loved Rollarama on 34^th street, Buzz the owner there knew us by name (my dad had worked their as kid and would help out there if asked on busy nights) It’s like night and day between these to sites. Rollarama West is JUNK and filled with junk as far as the staff goes. We will never return!

You would think for 10 $ a person (3 hours of skating!) they could afford to provide a comfortable atmosphere, it’s like a sweat shop in there. I remember skating a lot when I was younger, but I certainly don’t remember paying 10 $ to do so (as tight as my parents were) Way to capitalize on a struggling economy Rollerama, an expensive outing for a struggling parent, but the kids have so much fun!

We have been here several times, mostly for school fundraising nights. I like this one better than the others in town because the temperature is always good. They keep it clean. The food area is what you would expect from most skating rinks with nachos, pizza, drinks, chips, candy, and other snacks. There is almost always an employee on the floor helping kids with no experience try and get the hang of it with some beginner tips. The staff is friendly and helpful. They also have an area that is designed as a small skate park with it own rules for kids that want to bring their skateboards, scooter, or skates and try out some tricks. That area does require that you have knee pads, elbow pads, and a helmet which you can rent if needed. The location of this one is great since it’s right off the Westside Parkway.

My son loves this place. He brings his own skates and pays less to enter. I don’t skate but get in for free to watch. The food is cheep and the staff is friendly. Great family fun!

Its soooo HOT in here. They dont have good air conditioning at all. But the staff is really sweet and its not a bad price. but prepare to SWEAT. oh and they have cute little limbo games for the kids. The food and drinks are decent too.

This place is great, I get to relax and read while my kids have fun skating. They have music, racing games, dancing games and ramps for scooters and skateboards. There’s a lot to do there and what’s especially nice is your not gonna go broke the prices are great ! The snack bar has yummy pizza too. The employees are great with the kids and are always so friendly.

This place was so much fun! Me and some girlfriends decided to go for a girl’s night out on a Wednesday… we were 4 of the 10 people that were there… We had the whole rink to ourselves pretty much!
The skates were in good shape, the rink is nice and the ambience was very welcoming and comfortable…
The pricing was also great for hours of fun (and we were even able to use a Groupon so it was close to free)…
The only reason why I did not give 5 stars is because there are only 2 fans on the skating floor… It would be nice to have more or even A/​C (but I understand that A/​C could be expensive esp. if the business is not coming in)… Also the music seemed to repeat every so often… I understand its a family friendly establishment, but get more variety! And, its nice when the lights are dimmed and the fun neon lights are turned on… the lights were turned on and off every so often and I didn’t understand why…
Anyway, awesome place overall! Would love to return!

My husband and I decided to go for a skate for a cheap date on the Wednesday night special — 5 $ for each of us including skates. It was a fun time! We did not try any of the food, but looked pretty inexpensive for most of the food I have ever seen at entertainment like this. Bathrooms were really clean, and the skates we had were well maintained.
Only complaint– they never turned directions on us once in the 2 hours we were there– so right foot has a blister from turning all on one side!
We are going to go again for sure!
