So much hype for so much disappointment. I was really looking forward to our first visit. Let me start with the issues we had, then focus on what they got right. Upon arrival, we sat at a table and waited a good 10 minutes before our drink order was taken. We wanted to order food at the same time and we’re told that we couldn’t. After getting our drinks, we were able to order food. I had the apple mojito, which was more water and ice than Apple or mojito. They had no diet coke, so that changed an order for one of our group. Food took forever, wait staff was sparce. The huge projection tv screen was locked on one channel because the cable box overheated. It was almost unbareably hot inside. This was a Friday night. There was one large group and then empty tables everywhere. Now I know why. The buffalo fries would have been awesome served hot, or at least warm. The Texas 28 burger was huge and almost completely devoid of any burger flavor. The ambiance reminded me of an unfinished garage. Now I’ll focus on what they got right. I don’t think we’ll be going back.

I absolutely love this place. My partner and I usually go and split something because of the generous portions they provide. The trip tip sandwich with fries is amazing! We got it with coleslaw. We told the awesome and attentive server that we were splitting it and she brought everything already split in their own plates. We also got a beer which was a tiny bit on the pricey side, nevertheless out experiences there have been nothing short of stellar. I don’t usually give 5-star ratings, but this establishment definitely deserves the kudos. I can’t wait to go back!

The chili here is AMAZING!!! It’s real chili not chili beans! Service was great. Prices were on par. Definitely going to be going back and trying the PLT pastrami Lettuce Tomato.

Great service every time I’ve been here! I like the Farm Waffles… W eggs and bacon! Breakfast all day! No Pepsi serviced here but the ice tea is excellent!

The food was outstanding and prepared to our order. I chose a garlic vinegarette for the salad but it didn’t need any dressing. The shredded chicken had BBQ sauce mixed in but it was not overpowering. The burger was freshly made and very juicy even cooked med-well. We wish they had onion rings on the menu but are definitely going back for the waffle options!

OMG Delicious, from scratch, slow smoked, bbq. The executive chef here clearly takes much pride in his meat. I had the pork belly sliders which were immensely rich and delicious. My husband had the pastrami which he thinks is probably the best in town. I should also add that their fries are really quite delicious as well. The servers were friendly and their menu offers lots of choices we can’t wait to go back and try again some time soon!

Here in Bakersfield for a week because of work and by Wednesday I NEEDED a drink. Thankfully my hotel bartender told me about this place. The bartender was as friendly as you can ask for and the manager hung out and shot the shit which is all you can ask for in a neighborhood bar. Had the local Zeus IPA which is INCREDIBLE! Ordered the pastrami and I recommend you do the same! Talked to the maestro on the smoker and you can tell he works his ass off to bring you some mouth watering meat. I suggest adding some raw onions n banana peppers as they add the perfect flavor to the meat. Finally, as I was in Bakersfield I needed some country music and after asking the manager hooked it up in like 2min. BOTTOMLINE… GREATEXPERIENCE!

Wife and I came by for an early dinner and were really happy with the menu. I had the brisket and sausage sandwich, wife had the pulled pork sandwich. Saw lots of other offerings that sounded really interesting. Good smoky flavor, large portions, and excellent service. The atmosphere feels a little more bar than grill, but it’s very comfortable with rustic charm. Waitress explained that they generally have live music on Friday & Saturday nights. We’ll be back.

Great food and great service. Décor could use more touching up but still a decent looking place. I hope they do more with the place. My one complaint is the watered down alcoholic beverages.

I ordered the bacon and cheese burger… tasted delicious and cooked just how I wanted(medium). I also ordered their garlic fries(they have a different name in the appetizer menu)…I liked the garlic flavor and especially how the garlic did not over power the fries. They did mess up my order but the server was quick to fix it. No issues after that. I arrived for lunch and service was quick. I was able to order, get my meal, eat, and pay within the hour.

This place is awesome. I and a couple of friends needed a quick place to eat downtown and found this gem. The atmosphere is super casual and friendly. The waitress that greeted us was cute and charming. My friend Melanie ordered the Cobb salad. It was huge and flavorful. .according to her. She loved it! My friend Jill had the bacon cheddar burger and fries. Everything was eaten. I personally had to try the signature Texas 28 burger with bacon. It came with slaw and fries. Hands down, the BEST burger in bakersfield. For the 3 of us, our check was $ 42, that includes 3 sodas and taxes. I will definitely go back.

First visit. Tried the pork belly and pastrami. Both pretty good. Service was excellent, however, we were early and not many patrons. Huge projection TV. Watched Seattle thump Carolina while eating. Good sized corner stage for bands. All in all, pleasant experience.

After reading some reviews-I knew I had to try the pastrami! Boy was it good and worth the $ 11 because I had some leftovers for dinner. Nice location-great for a sport enthusiast with a xxl screen. Service was good-attentive but not overbearing. Definitely a gem in Bakersfield!

So we saw someone on Facebook talk about this place so we thought we would try it. We drove past it three times because u can’t see it. We were here pretty early and it was dead. We were a little scared. But we decided to try it anyway. I have to tell u. I ordered a burger to be safe because I was skeptical. Best damn burger I’ve had in a restaurant. My husband and I love our burgers we grill. we never order a burger and think omg it’s so good. Shane ordered the bacon cheddar burger. I never order a bacon burger because I love crispy bacon which u never get on a burger. This bacon was to die for and stayed crunchy through the entire burger!!! Delish. I ordered the classic burger with pepper jack and had them add the grilled onions and a spicy garlic aioli sauce. It was the best burger ever. They tell us their pastrami is their specialty I wish I knew before I ordered. This guy takes 7 days to cook his pastrami. I WILL be back to try it Why this place is empty right now is unfortunate. Everyone should try it.

I went in last night, trying to be as incognito as I could, specifically to try the Texas 28PLT that I’ve been reading about. The ambience was nice(for a slower night). They have a big screen TV playing on the stage, a smaller TV behind the bar. Plenty of whiskey and a few good beers on tap, it was nice to see they had Shiner Bock(sticking to the Texas theme). I would have been wow’ed if they had Lone Star or maybe some Texas micro-brews. Corey, the executive chef, came out mid-way through my meal to ask me if I enjoyed the sandwhich, which was nice of him. He briefly explained his preparation process to me, and it was interesting to hear his methods. I can say for sure that there is a lot of pride and love into making his pastrami. The meat itself definitely stands out as the best I’ve had up here. It has an awesome smoky flavor to it, the meat wasn’t sloppy with fatty juices but it wasn’t dry either. The spicy aioli he adds to the roll was a nice tangy/spicy kick; if I had made it myself I probably would have wanted more kick, maybe horseradish(?) but I understand that most people wouldn’t handle too much spicy. The lettuce and tomato were nice and fresh, probably picked very recently. I liked the roll, but my personal preference on that sandwhich would have been to steam the roll just a little. Either way, no real complaints from me as I devoured it with a few pints of Shiner. I’ll definitely be back to have that sandwhich and maybe try a few other things on their menu if I feel like over-indulging. Highly recommended, please go and have yourself the best pastrami in Bakersfield!

Opening night and it took forever to get a drink. I’ll give them another chance, though, because the food was yummy and our server was very nice. I’m a big fan of Muerto’s, so hoping things get better.

I love Muertos. So when I found out that Shawna was helping out with this restaurant too, I jumped at the chance to try their offerings. Our group of 3 came here last month at noon. We were expecting a wait, a la Muertos, but were surprised to see the place half empty. I’m guessing not many people knew they had opened for lunch. Texas 28 is located in the old Fish Lips. Not much has changed and the décor is sparse. But from what I know, they’re working on the food and service first, then the décor. Which isn’t that what you want from a restaurant anyways — good food? I had the South by Southwest waffle, with Pulled Pork and slaw topped cheese and BBQ sauce all on a jalapeño cornbread waffle. It was an interesting combination and actually pretty good. I have to say, Quigs has spoiled me on good pulled pork. But this was ok — what really made it was the cornbread waffle. Our group was pleased with their meal. No complaints were made. The service was really the shining star. I certainly hope locals will support this business just like Muertos. We could use more success stories in Bakersfield.

Being that I am such a fan of Muertos(run by the same people) I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately it was just ok. I got the chicken fried steak strips with the garden fries, and my wife got the fried chicken sandwich. The strips were nothing special, the fries were not bad, and the sandwich was too salty and over cooked. To their credit they took it off our bill and apologized. The waffles however saved them. While I enjoyed their light fluffy texture and sweet taste my wife felt they tasted too much of egg. Overall, there isn’t anything special about this place. If I were with some friends seeing a show, or a game, or maybe a movie on their giant projection screen, then yes I’d probably order some food. But as it stands they aren’t a place I’d go out of my way for. Oh and we did discover that the garden fries, which you get a metric tonne of, make a great next day scramble.

So the best thing of the night was the Banana Foster Waffle. If you’re going it is a required desert to try. We got the rib eye which was really good and the buffalo fries that weren’t good. Most displeasing was the price of the 12 oz rib eye; coming in at $ 27 which wasn’t on the menu so I had no idea the investment before ordering. The atmosphere does not justify that price when you get undercooked fries and a small portion of green beans. Plus: green beans had bacon so that was nice. My buffalo fries were in short, gross. The once frozen fries weren’t cooked long enough to withstand the buffalo sauce making it a plate of soggy fries with very few chicken pieces. I picked off the chicken and didn’t eat the rest the fries killed this dish. Drink prices weren’t terrible… And service was excellent. There is a service ninja who really helps the staff keep drinks filled and tables cleared. From the service alone I’d go back and with that desert its a sure thing. I’ll get a burger next time and hope it’s affordable.
