I’m still getting to know the various music venues in town and last night I got a chance to experience The Gate. It is in the church building on the corner of O Street and 20th Street and there are big numbers with the address above the entrance. There is a small parking lot and ample parking around the building. As soon as you walk in the restrooms are on either side of the main doors. The ladies restroom was very clean but not well stocked. 2 of the 3 stalls didn’t have toilet paper and one of them didn’t have toilet seat covers. They did not serve alcohol at the show I went to so I am assuming they don’t sell alcohol but there is a snack bar selling reasonably priced ear plugs, candy, and water. Another plus is there were ins and outs. During the first band’s(Mest) set the room was really hot and I was surprised they actually turned the AC on and it was much cooler for the rest of the show(The Ataris and Hawthorne Heights). That really impressed me. The sound is not great but considering the venue I guess it is expected so I won’t complain too much. All in all I liked attending the show I did and would come back to see more bands!
