The chicken with white sauce is so delicious. The chicken was a tad on the dry side this time around but overall the plate was really good. Huge plate full of veggies, really good rice, and chicken. I also got a ceviche tostada to try and it was super good.

My family and I popped in for lunch while our cars were being cleaned by an establishment nearby. My son warned us not to go. Our order was simple and given to the waitress quickly, the area we were seated in was clean and the rest appeared to be as well. We waited over an hour, had to flag down the waitress for water refills and salsa. They were nice enough considering we had to chase them down a few times only to hear it’s coming soon. Food finally arrived and was not worth the wait or expense. Horrible tostadas, sad wings and a pathetic torts with no flavor. My son of course was happy to remind us that he tried to warn us. Won’t be back again.

So when we got here, over half the crew was already here. That’s over 40 people. I’m sure they weren’t expecting all of us, and at this point, I’m counting over 60 of us. So I can understand that they might be slightly overwhelmed we been here over an hour, and so far we only have our drinks. An hour and 52 min after arriving, half of my meal is here(beans and rice). Still waiting on the actual fajitas. 15 min later, the fajitas. The fajitas by themselves were enough to satisfy me. We were all so hungry, we scarfed our food down before we could taste it. Since we were the last table to get served, most of our friends were gone by the time the food came. Take this review with a grain of salt, well, unless you come with a group of 60+, then expect similar results. The molcajetes looked very good, and I was told the chilli verde was good as well. Next time, I’ll come in a smaller group

The chips and salsa were very uninteresting. Tasted like they were cooked in old grease. The steak fajitas lacked seasoning and had an overwhelming lemon flavor. Service was fast on the fajitas.

We heard that the Chile Rellanos were really good here. My husband enjoyed them and said they were one of the best that he has had. They are made with poblano chiles, which I feel is a must. I had the fajitas with shrimp and steak. Probably something I will not order again. It had more onions than steak. The shrimp was delicious, but the seasoning on the meat is not quite up to par. The waitress was very friendly, and provided good service. We had potato skins as an appetizer, and they were delicious. The margarita was very good also.

This is an old school Mexican restaurant with good solid dishes, nothing fancy or cutting edge, but I’ve never been disappointed with the food I’ve ordered. I came here several times with an ex boyfriend. We always started with the chips and guacamole, both of which always tested fresh. He always ordered the fajitas and I always ordered the chile verde. I know, not very imaginative of us, but why change when you’ve already found a winner. I had bites of his fajitas on several occasions and the meat(usually a combination of chicken and steak) was always cooked well but not overcooked, was well seasoned, The meat to peppers and onions ratio was good; they were never stingy with the meat as some restaurants are. My chile verde was always tender and well seasoned. The rice and beans weren’t particularly exciting, but the rice was never dry and they always gave us plenty of salsa to spice things up a bit. The waitress(we usually had the same one) was always attentive, keeping the chips, salsa, and Corona flowing smoothly at the table. There is a very large bar area both on the outside and on the inside just as you enter the restaurant that is usually blasting rock music. I never visited the bar, but I found the overly loud music the only negative part of the experience. Don’t worry, if they seat you in the back of the room you don’t have to listen to it. This may not be my favorite Mexican restaurant in town, but they gave themselves a fair showing. I’d definitely come back.

We really enjoyed our dinner after a long drive. Great service, excellent salsa and delicious enchiladas. We plan on returning on our next drive through Bakersfield.

Very disappointed with our visit last night. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday with a group of 20 people and had the worst service ever! We sat on the patio and had to go inside to alert the bartender when new people showed up or we needed drinks. By the end of the evening, the bartender admitted that he was drunk and it took more than 20 minutes to get a drink. When we left, we told him that the service sucked(we left a tip) and the bartender allowed other patrons at the bar to confront us. There was almost a fight, and no one from the establishment tried to handle the problem. We returned today to talk to the owner or manager and had to leave our name and phone number as no one was present. Big surprise, we haven’t received a phone call! I will never return and will also left everyone know what happened so they don’t get the same treatment.

Whenever we’re driving in that area of Southern California, we always time reaching Bakersfield at lunch or dinner time so that we can dine at The Old Hacienda. We love their food.

Traveling through Bakersfield is you are a traditional, epic an for fan this is a must stop. They have the traditional two and three item meals and a whole host of menu restaurant specialties. My wife went here a lot in her travels for work. This was my first opportunity to eat here as we traveled through on our extended RV trip. My test of a good Mexican restaurant is the chile relleno. So I ordered a three item combo including that. It was awesome. I am a native San Diegan I know my Mexican food. This was excellent. The other thing that’s a good bench mark are the refried beans. Are they really good or are they considered an unimportant side dish by the cook. The beans where fantastic. My wife got the shrimp fajitas. They were plentiful and full of great colorful veggies. She has a trick where she orders«beans form the pot». Wow a beautiful bow of beans with toppings which included a couple of spears of cheese. They were very tasty. I can’t wait to go back the next time we are in the area.

Food ok at best… service was good, not great but good. The place is really nice but it needs real Mexican food with flavor. I had the shrimp fajitas and the shrimp was flavorless. The vegetables included broccoli… in fajitas??? WTH?

Outside of the decent service, there was nothing stellar about this«Mexican» restaurant. Perhaps if you are of the general Caucasian population of Bakersfield(who also think Mexicali is good), you will like the bland food. We ordered the guacamole and chicken fajitas. Worst fajitas ever, the guacamole tasted old, the salsa was okay, unfortuately the only thing we liked was the soda. So if you want decent Mexican food, steer far away.

I used to come to this restaurant a lot as a kid. I brought my fiancé here a couple months ago to share it with him, and we had a wonderful meal. The chorizo con queso was so delicious, I had craved it ever since. We decided to return here last night hoping for a similar experience and were greatly disappointed. When we originally had the chorizo con queso it was a warm delicious dip that was visually appealing and full of flavor. On this particular visit the skillet came out with the cheese still boiling hot and yet the cheese had already congealed. We were literally having to cut it with a knife to try to apply it to the chips which were breaking every time. When we mentioned this to the waiter, he said it was because we had let it sit. It was already a solid mass when he brought it to the table even though it was hot! Not to mention that it had the color and texture of pink silly putty. It was completely opposite of the same dish we had months prior. I love cheese, and we didn’t even finish the appetizer. The chorizo in the dish was practically an afterthought. Our entrees came out and they looked wonderful. My fiancé dressed his chicken salad and begin to mix it, only to realize that they had not dried the lettuce leaving in a pool of water at the bottom of the bowl. I had ordered the shrimp fajitas, and the skillet was vibrant and beautiful when it came out. The shrimp looked so wonderful and tasty, I was shocked to realize that they were practically flavorless. I didn’t know it was possible to have such a beautiful color on shrimp and have them have no flavor. The fajitas always come with rice, beans, sour cream, and guacamole. On this visit, the guacamole consisted of a single slice of avocado for the entire skillet. It very much feels like this restaurant is trying to cut costs wherever they can. I have so many wonderful memories of coming to this restaurant with my family, I am so disappointed with the meal that we had last night. I truly hope that they turn around their quality of food and go back to serving delicious meals. I will probably not be returning here anytime soon, if at all.

This is the best Mexican food in Bakersfield!!! Their enchiladas del mar are the best I’ve ever had. The service is wonderful. The staff members are so sweet and attentive. Great food and great service. The restrooms have always been super clean when I’ve used them. They have a nice patio area with metal tables and chairs which is wonderful in the nice area. Their bar area is small, but I’m not one to hang out at the bar, so I’ve never had a problem. The dining area is cute with Mexican décor and the booths and tables are in very nice shape. Their dining area can accommodate plenty of people, and they have a decent amount of parking spaces. We LOVE Old Hacienda.

Went here because I was starving. The manager seated us promptly, he looked annoyed from his body language and motioned us to follow him. The chips and salsa were served quickly, chips weren’t homemade clearly from a bag, the salsa was good. I ordered a chicken chimichanga which I felt was overpriced at $ 12. I was disappointed when my plate came, the chimichanga was naked no guacamole only some sour cream on the side with a teaspoon of pico on the side also, it was served with rice and beans. The rice was edible and okay, the refried beans were okay. My first bite from the chimichanga was like cheesy sauce? And the more I got into it I discovered that there was a river of beans and cheese and very lit to hardly any shredded chicken. I’ve never had a chicken chimichanga with beans in it much less a fucking river of them. Likely I said I was too hungry to complain. This was my first and last experience here, way overpriced

Food was very good my husband had the lunch special carnitas chimichanga and it was good except for the piece of bone in the meat. That happens with beef. Otherwise he said it was VERY good!!! I had a cheese enchilada and Oh my gosh that had so much cheese it was a fight to eat it, not that I’m complaining I love cheese! But it was super stringy and funny to watch me struggle but it was very good glad to report they do fill it with a lot of cheese! Chip & salsa was good, service was prompt. We will be coming back to try something else!
