Picked up some last minute food for the Super Bowl. I have to say the ribs were great along with the Mac and cheese and collard greens. Before I could leave Benny’s he persuaded me to grab some wings also and I’m glad I did they were great the Jack Daniels sauce was tasty and the Buffalo was just the right heat. All and all the food was a great value for the quality.

Omg they’re food is sooooo delicious!!! I tried just about everything on the menu and it’s just amazing. The staff is so friendly and always waiting on you with a smile. My faveeeee desert is the REDVELVETCAKE!!! Omggg it’s so good and moist. All the deserts are delicious and made from scratch but that’s just one of my favorites.

Literally the best decision I made all weekend. The chicken & waffles, fried fish & grits, and bacon were amazing. Fried stuff was cooked perfectly, crunchy w/o seeming super greasy. Excellent flavors, especially the grits. I only they’d open up a spot in DC. This place is definitely a must if you’re in the area & looking for an excellent tasting well prepared meal on the cheap. I’ll definitely be back!

I can only rate Benny B’s for lunch. The first time here, I got a chicken gyro to go, and that was a mistake. Not b/c the gyro wasn’t good, it was … okay. But what I didn’t realize is that Benny does lunch specials, sometimes(always??) versions of the delicious dinner entrees. On my second visit to Benny’s, I did it right and got the beef brisket w/their own BBQ sauce. I also ate there, since I had a few minutes, and I just didn’t feel like eating beef brisket out of styrofoam. Well, I had the brisket, a side of mac&cheese, and a side of collard greens, for less than $ 15, and sweet baby Jesus was it *amazing*. *Especially* the collard greens. The beef was the star, and it was so juicy and tender, but the collard greens side, you might think is an afterthought. Best collard greens I have ever had. Nice and fresh, not filled up with grease, just delicious. I was taken aback at how much value I got out of that lunch. I can just imagine how dinner is. Keep in mind that this place would get like a negative 45 for décor from Zagat. However, it’s clear that Benny has a lot of pride in what he does, and where he comes from. Take a minute to look at all of the photos and clippings on the wall — I’m impressed with how proud Benny is of his community. You know, I hear people sometimes talk crap about Baldwin. I’m from Freeport, and I’ve heard a lot of crap about Freeport, too. But I also know that many of us Freeporters have a lot of pride in our town. And people like Benny show me that Baldwin is no different. I’ll be back for sure, for the amazing value, for the great food, but mainly for the authentic love that Benny has for his craft, and his community.

This place was recommended by a friend, and I have to say that it was a good recommendation. Great service, great location, very good prices, and the chicken and waffles were excellent. I can’t wait to come back and try the red velvet waffles.

Good food. Sweet cashier. There is a new, younger cashier who appears to be in «training». Her attitude could be WAY better but, I’ll charge it to being a teenager and not really wanting to work. Otherwise, good grab & go breakfast/brunch spot. I wouldn’t eat in.

MANNNN!!! If you want some EXCELLENT food — this is the place to go!!! The brisket was soft n’ moist, and melted right in my mouth. The sweet potato pie and peach cobbler were on point! Their potato salad was SLAMMIN’!!! Mac n’ cheese was pretty good. I had some of the honey chicken too — but unfortunately the honey sauce somehow spilled out the bag, so I’ll have to get it again(another time) and review on that next time. My mouth is watering now while writing this, so that means I will be back FORSURE!!!

I went with my wife yesterday to benny b’s for lunch. This is a small primarlily takout restaurant with limited seating space. We ordered a cheeseburger a Greek chicken wrap and some salmon cakes. All of the dishes were quite good and flavorful except for two comments. The onions on my wifes burger were cold and I felt there could have been more fries on the plates. Benny the owner was very friendly and welcoming. Service was good and responsive. The price to value ratio here is about average for this type of restaurant. All in all this was a very good experience and I look forward to returning in the near future.

First time at this restaurant and I wanted to be wowed and awed and I was please that it’s in an easy location but I give real reviews. Firstly the sides I got were yams and Mac and cheese with honey marinated chicken. I took a bite of the yams because I love the diabetes rush lol but they were amazing. Then I went for the Mac and cheese I felt it needed something more but couldn’t pinpoint it but it was delicious. I was expecting the chicken to be succulent and juicy and amazing. I bit into the chicken and it was dry like I needed juice to wash it down I said maybe it was just that part of the chicken. I bit into the leg it was dry as well. All in all I ate the side dishes with delight the cornbread was ok as well. I didn’t finish the chicken I threw it out.

I am absolutely in love with Benny B’s. For starters I would just like to say that I’ve never had such a warm welcoming by a restaurant owner. Benny is a knowledgeable, humble, and funny being. He is definitely great both in and out the kitchen. Now as for the food, I can not stress enough how delectable the menu is that he has put together with Surprise daily specials as well. All the food is prepared to perfection. My favorites are the Whiting fish, Fried Chicken, Salmon, yams, macaroni and cheese, cabbage, potato salad, and yams! Omg I LOVETHEYAMS! Definitely a great place to dine. You won’t be disappointed!

Fantastic. Benny is very personable and his food is simply delicious. I was in the neighborhood and a friend mentioned this place. Benny was very friendly and gave me a sample of his chicken soup and I wish I turned around and bought the whole pot that day! It was the best soup I’ve tasted and its was flavorful and it hit the spot.

I woke up today starving! It was one of those mornings where you need to eat very heavy-very fast or you will flip out on someone. I Unilocaled the area i was in and I found this spot. I called and Benny picked up-I said I want the Caveman Breakfast with Bacon, Eggs, Grits, Potatoes and toast. He said Ok, I will see you in 10 Minutes. I walked in to this cute little place, very small with 3 small tables. In about 10 minutes my food was waiting. I gobbled it up in 2 minutes. Those Grits were so yummy, the eggs were perfect, the potatoes had onions(but not that much) and they were so good! The bacon had the perfect crisp. I cannot wait to try their ribs and Mac and cheese! Run here people and try their grits!

Another gem found through Unilocal that I can say I can’t wait until I go to again! First off, their brisket was melt in your mouth soft drenched in a perfectly balanced tangy and sweet barbecue sauce. Rule of thumb, brisket is good when you need no knife, dude. Secondly the Bishop A. White honey marinated chicken. Whoever he is, his chicken is awesome. My favorite dish of this soul food excursion. I would have been licking my fingers like no tomorrow if I didn’t use a fork and knife. The sweetness was perfectly on point without being overbearing while the chicken was tender but not too quaggy where it feels almost pulpous mid-chew. The pulled pork was great as well, stringy, soft and consumed by a sauce that had just enough bite to leave you wanting another. Pardon the pun. I would go on describing the sides but you probably have stopped reading by now so I’ll keep it short. Mac and cheese, yams, do it. Their slaw was mustard based, different from what I like but still very tasteful. Only chink in the armor(pardon the pun again, since I’m Chinese) was the corn bread. Wish they were warm but they were closing up shop so I don’t blame them. Cannot lose a star for it. I tried to try as much as I could but the portions were so large I had lunch and dinner for tomorrow! Can’t wait to go back, didn’t even get to try their lamb!

Best soul food I have had in New York. Tastes really authentic, the Brisket(with Gravy) Mac and cheese/Yams gave me heart palpitations and made me feel like I was back in Savannah, GA. They also had me try the soup of the day which was the Cream Of Chicken, amazing as well. Gonna try the grits next time!

OMG!!! This place is the best… REAL soul food on Long Island! I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was amazing. The macaroni was perfection and the yams were on point too. I would give this place 6 stars if I could.

The husband and I have eaten here twice now and we love it. If you live in the area and want good, southern style or comfort food, whatever you want to call it… eat here!!! Go support Benny and his awesome little restaurant so it doesn’t disappear!!! I’ve eaten the pulled pork, meatloaf, yams, green beans, collards, and mac and cheese. All of them were stellar. My husband has had the brisket, fried porgy, and the same sides. Serious– get the yams. They aren’t canned. I saw actual real vegetables in the kitchen. They actually peel and cut all those suckers and they are sublime. Try them. The place is tiny if you’re planning to eat in– like, two tables tiny. We like talking to Benny so we eat in but it seems like most people opt to take it to go(You order at the counter and some things are cooked in the back and the sides are in a steam table up front– and no fear, they are piping hot). The girls behind the counter are soft spoken, sweet, and patient. Benny, owner and executive chef, if you will, is a kind, hard-working man who cares very very much about his business. He’s quick to let you have a taste of something new(I got to sample cheeseburger soup which was flipping awesome but I had my heart set on the meatloaf). When he noticed my husband struggling with the bones in the porgy, he asked if he had ever had that particular fish before and my husband said no and Benny was so bummed because he said while it’s a flavorful fish, it’s a bony one and he’d be more than happy to go fix him a different fish. Of course we were like no way, we can deal with bones but super cool offer! That’s the kind of guy Benny is. The portions are substantial– not so much that you’re going to waste food, but definitely enough to fill you up. Prices are fair… not that I care. For food this good I would have paid double. I have to end this review. I brought home peach cobbler and it’s calling my name.(FYI the desserts are made by either Benny or his sister, no outsourcing here!)
