July 1, I took in 45 books. They accepted 20. The other 25 I put in my box for Goodwill, which was at the ready in the back of the car, and that’s where I went next. Planning is important. I did not have my «books read» list with me, so I free-wheeled it and found three new authors to try: Hamilton Crane, who has a sequel of novels about Miss Seeton, who seems to verge on the likeness of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple David Wiltse, a thriller novel writer who has a starring FBI agent named John Becker Dick Wolf, the creator of «Law & Order,» who has a series of Jeremy Fisk novels I bought nine books for $ 19 and change, using some of my more than $ 100 credit. You cannot use all of your credit at one time. Just half of your purchase price can come from your credit. The remainder has to be your own money. The clerks are always so friendly, so going through the books you’ve brought in in an efficient manner. I’m always back in the stacks looking for more books so by the time I get to the front with my purchases, they’ve gone through my books. And they always encourage me to bring the«rejected» books back again. It all depends upon inventory and timing. Isn’t timing everything?

Been coming here for years. Unfortunately the last few times the woman working has been extremely rude. It seems that the books that they will take list is getting shorter & shorter and I’m starting to wise up that I’m not really getting a good deal. Might help the cause if the woman working there didn’t have a huge attitude problem & act like you are putting her out. I thought this was a «Christian» establishment?

I like what you can get for a trade-in here, but it would be awesome if people sold more of their good books. It is depressing to see so much junk fiction. What’s better: reading Twilight or playing video games? I think that the critical thinking involved in video games trumps the poignancy of junk books, but I’m just one crazy cat lady. Dear people who sell their books to the Book Rack: sell your classics too! Nice location, nice workers, just ok selection.

Believe it or not, this is one of the more organized of the used book stores in the area… The thing about used book stores is that it’s all dependent upon what other people are bringing in or what owners may find at garage sales. If you’re looking for something very specific, use book stores just wouldn’t be the place for you. You’re going want to hang around and browse for a little bit, and thank goodness that there’s a St. Louis Bread Co next door that I can hang out at while the wife is browsing. All in all, there are some random seats for you to sit at and they do have a decently diverse selection of books to chose from.

I don’t go to the Book Rack anymore because I have outgrown the childrens’ section, obviously. I have found some rare editions of books, like the first edition of Jaws(when I was curious what the book was like when I was a tween), and a couple of the Degrassi novels from the 80s. Those are the kinds of books you can find here if you’re willing to take your time the these quarters. Lovely!

I enjoy used things. I don’t know why. The only problem is the small children and teen section. When I went there, there were only about ten teen novels. It’s always fun to go in there and see what they have. Stop in and see what you like.

Just stopped by here today to add a few more books to my insanely large collection. While the majority of the shelves are overflowing with romance novels and older relics from the 80’s and early 90’s, they do provide a decent selection of more recent classics and award-winners. This used bookstore is certainly on the small side, and they do manage to utilize every spare square inch of space, but there’s still not enough of a selection here for me. I think something useful like free coffee or Wi-Fi would attract more customers, but it’s hard to ask a whole lot of an independent bookstore with a tiny space to work with. Prices here are average; I’d have to say I’ve actually found better deals at(cringe) Borders and certainly at Goodwill. While I’ll still be turning regularly to my local big-boy bookstore for most of my buys, I like coming here every once in a while to find unusual, inexpensive vintage reads.
