Had dinner for Restaurant week. Excellent food and service. The calamari was the best I’ve ever had in MYLIFE! The seafood sampler provided just enough samples, and desert topped everything off. Friendly staff.

Steam pot Thursday special $ 9.95 . Tomato base may be the same used for crabsoup because that’s exactly what it taste like and had the same veggies. 3 bowls ordered 1 bowl had 0 clams and less of everything. For dessert we ordered Xango. 4⁄5 for dessert because it was delicious minus the banana«custard» inside. Tasted like cream cheese and I HATE cheese in desserts. It was a fried tortilla with cinnamon wrapped around the custard. I really am only disappointed in the slow service. We were seated at 7pm and left at 9pm. We eat quick so literally an hour and a half in total of waiting. They were steady but, no wait. The gentleman who served our steam pot was awesome. He poured it in the bowl and was really friendly. Very clean and bathroom was spotless. All in all a positive experience.

I drive from DC at least 1x a month. My wife, friends and I have tried almost everything on the breakfast & dinner menu and all of them have been delicious! Sweet tea, crab cakes, grits, stuffed shrimp, jambalaya, french toast, crab soup, omelet, crab fries, scallops, crab legs, calamari and my all time favorite… seafood linguine! Service has always been great and they have a huge parking lot. As an added bonus, the parking lot is on the pier so we usually take a long walk after dinner to enjoy the houses and boats along the Canton pier. BUT… I recommend that you make a reservation because it’s not a very big place. You should also consider allowing for traffic, because Boston Street gets pretty backed up on weekend evenings.

Where to start. As succinctly as possible… upon entry, asked if we had reservations. I thought that this was a classy place. Sat down, ordered crab legs. Legs came out. They were dehydrated and not pleasant. I sent them back and didn’t see the server for 10 minutes. My friend was almost finished with their meal. Finally, the server came back and asked if i wanted to order anything else. I got up to find the manager and asked my server for a manager. He said, in a lackadaisical tone, «I am the manager.» Told him I had been waiting for 10 minutes for someone to come by and all he wanted to do was sell me something else. Terrible customer service, terrible food. I can’t wait to tell my training travel group of 300+ to not go to Captain James. Zero stars.

Had to go for the crab experience during my first trip to maryland. We were a party of two and decided to get the all you can eat crabs. My only gripe is that we had a two seat tabke with very little room. The hostess said that she didnt have any larger tables available but when one became available instead of asking us if we would like to move she sat another party of two there. Other than that the experience was great I love the way that the place is decorated like a ship. Our waitress Bonnie gave us a crab cracking tutorial and kept em coming. I asked for light seasoning on my next orders as the old bay was overwhelming. Hush puppies were divine but the crab mac didnt do it for me tasted like tuna casserole, the crab was overpowering. Great great place I highly Recommend.

I took my daughter here for an early dinner and used a coupon I bought from GROUPON. The place was not hard to find and plenty of parking available across the restaurant. The restaurant was clean and there is a greeter once you enter. We were seated immediately and our waitress was nice and very helpful. Food was served right away and it was delicious. Best crab cakes so far and steamed peel and eat shrimps. The crab cakes are huge and for the price it is a great deal.

Scene for a birthday brunch… I ordered the crab dip and a waffle with my usual instructions to barely burn it(the only way I can to get servers to know I really want my waffles with some color and crispness)… The waffle was cooked perfectly brown and crispy and tasted really good after a butter rub down and a dip in the syrup! The crab dip was goooooooooooddddd!!! Served with Pita bread and sliced baguettes. The dip is flavorful and loaded with crab and a little too much cheese… Had enough dip to take home… After a warm up and an addition of roasted corn the dip was awesome and the corn cut down some of the cheesiness… But I would love to come here in the summer and experience the outdoor location across the street!

Great parking. Cozy casual atmosphere. Terrific service. The food was excellent. Yummy hot rolls. Tender and crispy calamari. The seafood platter, broiled, was huge and each item was perfect. Stuffed shrimp had jumbo crab imperial. Side of grits do good. So was the baked stuffed tomato. Beautiful presentation Try this Baltimore staple — you won’t be disappointed!

I am not normally a big« Unilocal reviewer» but I just had such an amazing lunch here that I felt inclined to write a great review. First off my server Heather was amazing! She was so courteous and patience as I did not know what I wanted. She made several recommendations which lead me to believe that she was well versed in the menu. I finally decided to start with the seafood stew which she informed me was made to order(always a plus!!) and then a good ol’ cheeseburger. I am a big burger guy and I have to say that it was absolutely delicious. The bread was perfect, the meat seasoned just right. Oh and the soup, undoubtedly the best seafood stew I’ve had in quite some time. I would say the entire experience was great and I most certainly will frequent the establishment guys. Great job Heather! Being new to Baltimore, I have now found a great restaurant for seafood!

Came to Baltimore and was craving some delicious crab cakes… and I was not disappointed. A friend who grew up in the area told me this was his favorite spot and I can easily tell why. The food was absolutely amazing and the service was very quick and friendly. While the meal was a little expensive, it was definitely worth every penny. Shared everything with one other person and it worked out to a perfect meal because the portion are pretty large. Here is what we got: Half Dozen Raw Oysters — It is hard to mess up raw oysters and luckily they didn’t. The oysters were cold, refreshing and accompanied with great side/topping items. Crab Mac and Cheese — Cheesy, gooey and full of jumbo lump crab meat. The crispy bacon added an additional level of great flavor. Then finally the old bay mixed in makes this a must-have appetizer. Captain’s Classic Crab Cakes — Absolutely amazing. Perfectly crispy crust on the outside and full of HUGE tender crab chunks on the inside. This was all crab and very little breading, which is exactly what you want. The crab cake was packed full of flavor and was clearly cooked to perfection. This has to be some of the best crab cakes I have ever had. Definitely looking forward to coming back to this spot again.

We wanted a seafood thanksgiving and we found it. This place is unbelievable, the food, atmosphere and staff are top notch. We had crab stuffed mushrooms to start then caesar salad, crab imperial, crab cakes, snow crab legs, cream of crab soup and it was all delicious. Service was top notch as always. You need to visit and experience the BESTOFBALTIMORE

Ok so let me say Maryland has heavy competition for good seafood from fadleys to Timbuktu to G&M back to the Windsor in and a host of other places. Captain James landing disappointed heavy for several reasons. The server John was friendly and nice so no knock to him, but I ordered several apps and entrees to use this groupon $ 40 for $ 80 worth of food. The food that came out from the kitchen was room temp/lukewarm at best. Anyone knows that seafood should be steaming hot when served and the crab dip had more cheese then meat in it. Compared to the host of other spots in Baltimore this place was a let down. Others rave about it, but i do not see the big deal of this place and the prices are higher. Not to mention to sell a groupon that on the surface seems like an awesome deal until you realize they charge an automatic 18% gratuity on bills over $ 75 so expect a check either way.

Love me some Captain James — if you want that BALTIMOREEXPERIENCE, make sure you stop there. I have so many favorites on their menu. Be sure to stop there for Lobster Night on Tuesdays, $ 14.991.25lb whole lobster, can’t beat that! Then every night they usually have all you can eat crabs for $ 32…call first though to make sure. Love their food! Great staff too!

Can we talk about how cheap their breakfast is? I mean seriously. I think when people read the word cheap they infer lower quality, but that is not the case. I’ve only been here twice both times for breakfast/brunch. You can get delicious, pancakes, eggs, bacon, ham, and sausage(yes that’s one meal) for under $ 10. I really enjoy the french toast and the omelettes. The service is always excellent too!

I purchased a Groupon and was able to make a reservation via Open Table for Saturday night the night before. That’s the only good thing I have to say about this restaurant. We informed our server, Megan M., that we had a Groupon, and she must have taken that as «you’re paying automatic gratuity and I don’t have to earn your love.» She was unenthusiastic throughout the entire meal. Our drinks sat empty the entire time and I was only able to get a refill when I stopped her to ask for one. My dining partner wasn’t so lucky, even though his glass was empty when I asked for mine. She didn’t offer dessert. We got the filet and crab cake special, which was decent but soured by our server’s attitude. Avoid this place.

My party of five made reservations for 5:30, but arrived a little bit late(10 mins) as traffic was horrible on a Saturday evening. As we were being seated, the hostess asked us to «please be mindful, as the 7 o’clock crowd will be coming in». She couldn’t even say it with a smile. That was the first mistake, don’t rush us out before we even get seated! Had we not drove 1.5 hours to eat here, we would’ve gone elsewhere at that point. Our waitress seemed very groggy, like she was on meds or something. She didn’t seem to comprehend any of our simple questions or requests and was not very friendly. We waited approximately 45 mins for our meals to come out. When they finally came they were delicious! I had the jumbo stuffed shrimp which were perfect. Three large shrimp with more stuffing on them than there was shrimp but with ample crab. The grits that came with the meal would’ve been perfect too, if they weren’t lukewarm. The veggies were better than your typical steamed veggie selection and were full of flavor and not painful to eat. Overall, I give the place a 3. Probably would’ve given closer to a five if the service wasn’t lacking. I would likely return if I didn’t live 70 miles away.

I had a lovely time at Captain James’ this weekend. The restaurant is well decorated and the ambience is refreshing. There were plenty of natural light and gives off a feel of casual, yet special enough. The experience certainly made our annual trek to Baltimore area for crabbing worthwhile. Obviously, their steamed crabs is a must-get! It’s about $ 57 for a dozen of medium-sized crabs. As a rule of thumb, it’s generally enough for each person to get 3 – 4 crabs. I also highly recommend ordering a few other dishes. The seafood is well worth it at Captain James. I especially recommend getting Captain’s Classic Crab Cake — it will not disappoint — literally two largest lumps of crab cakes I’ve ever seen. Definitely worth the $ 25.99. My next option is to recommend getting the broiled sea scallops — especially if you are looking for a healthy seafood entrée. They are very generous with their portion sizes here, so expect to get 8 – 10 scallops on your plate. I’m sure all the other seafood options on the menu is worth trying and if I were to go back again, I’d definitely try something new. Can’t wait to uphold this tradition again in the next summer!

I like their menu and the seafood. I was expecting that the food price is expensive but it is reasonably priced, because the food portion is proportioned to the price. I like the seafood stew in the lunch menu; it was delicious. I like the crab cake sandwich also in the lunch menu; the crabs were big and real. Since we arrived at 11 am, we also ordered from the breakfast menu. I like the crab hash; it was fantastic. Overall, the captain took charge of the ship’s kitchen and landed with an excellent execution of food service.

Came for steamed crabs. Called ahead and they said they had jumbo. Went in and they showed us the medium, large, and extra large = puny, small, a teensy bit bigger than small. I asked about the jumbo and he said they don’t have any but will check. Sure enough they had some but they were NOT jumbo sized IMO and were $ 99 a dozen. We were hoping for big crabs and it was cold sitting outside so we decided on just some appetizers and beer. Apps were not bad. Blue Moon was good haha. Service was just alright. You can tell he was annoyed we didn’t order crab. The one thing good about this place though is its nice location and atmosphere. We sat on the water side where it’s more seafood and the outdoor deck is nice to sit out on. Too bad it was cold that night! Probably touristy which is why crabs are smaller and more expensive. Good ambiance for a date on a summer night.

No. No no no. No. If you’re going to base your restaurant off of seafood, decorate it like a boat, and sell yourself on your seafood, your seafood better freakin be fresh and cooked well. Nobody ever ever ever order the seafood nachos. Oh god it just came back up a little in my mouth. Oh it was so bad. So so so so bad. What is that sauce? The weird creamy thing that’s definitely not typical and tastes stale and seems to not be made of neither cream or cheese but like… uncooked roux? And The scallops and the shrimp and crap in that sauce? Methinks not. A) definitely frozen, 100% they’re frozen, and B) there is really no justification for charging 11 $ for terrible seafood terrible sauce over stale chips in one huge gloopey mess. Oh god just don’t. Just say no to the nachos. shudder. I had the seafood platter. The scallop, salmon, and shrimp were all overcooked. I mean come on, a seafood place has got to cook seafood properly. The clam casino was overcooked and weird and terrible and just oh so bad, like stuff piled on top of a clam with no rhyme or reason to it. The tiniest clam in the world by the way. The only redeeming quality was that the crab cakes were alright. ish. Also, the wait time was annoying. Oh god. So not a fan. Make it stop oh dear lord. *my friend enjoyed her one crab cake. But not its sides and not the service and she had three oysters that were not the best. Will update later if she ends up huddled over a toilet.
