The owner has treated me quite aggressively(in more than one occasion) when I have respectfully asked her about the long wait for our lunch orders(more than 20 mins.) She replied in an unpleasant tone that there are other people before me and that I have to wait –more, after a 20-minute wait. Did I mention this has happened in more than two occasions? While I have to say that the food is pretty decent, they have a good tea selection, and the location is good(there are only 2 coffee shops in this area and this one has better music and light than the other one), I think I don’t want to go back. It is sad. Where will I go now? The other place plays Metal music and I am not fond of it. I feel sad that the owner displays this disrespectful treatment to her regular patrons. I used to go there for tea and interacted with the lovely *employees*(waiters and waitresses). The problem is when you order food /lunch and have to wait and are yelled at by the owner.

What’s your idea of the perfect cup of chocolate? Mine is this: Dark and full-bodied, with a taste that fills the mouth while leaving that slight tingling behind from the bitterness. A stern reminder that what you just drank was not 2 cups of corn syrup and vanillin, but actual cocoa beans. Chocolatea delivers, and in spades! Their chocolate is masterfully made every single time I head in, the staff are friendly and enthusiastic, and their selection of items is small but focused. They know what they can do, and do it well.

I was sold when I saw the words, «chocolate» and«tea» combined – my two favorite, guilty pleasures with health benefits! While passing through Greater Baltimore’s college area, I researched on Unilocal where to eat at the Johns Hopkins University-Homestead campus and came across Chocolatea. I conveniently parked in a free, two-hour spot across from the restaurant. I ordered a tuna melt panini with Swiss cheese, avocado, lettuce and wasabi mayo, which came with a side salad and sesame oil-based dressing. For my beverage, I ordered a pumpkin spice latte with soy milk. All the above were deeeeeeelicious! Chocolatea had a variety of tea, lattes, hot chocolate, sandwiches, noodle soup and other Asian-inspired dishes. It was a great place to study while savoring my late lunch. I imagined that it often gets packed because there were signs posted prohibiting study groups and laptops on the weekends. The owners and staff were super nice and friendly! Best of all, Chocolatea is Asian-owned. :)

While the food is still pretty good, albeit overpriced, the owner displays some weird anxieties over seating. Instead of booting people out of tables, she now has assigned seating which is fine I guess but a little awkward when the café is empty. If I come in with my well dressed husband who works in business, she is super nice and kind. If I come in with my school bag and plop down to drink a tasty latte and read some articles, I receive a cold reception. She got my friend’s order wrong and refused to believe she misheard. While she did remake the drink, she was flustered and anxious about having to do it. The woman who takes orders up front is lovely and I absolutely adore her(wise move to have her up front!!), but maybe the owner should stay out in the back until she addresses her issues or gets better at dealing with patrons. Also, I forgot to add– their drinks have been getting smaller and smaller over the years, which is disappointing. I don’t feel they are worth the price at all(4 – 5 bucks for a 12oz).

The avocado salad with ginger dressing was great! The service was not so great. Maybe it was because I was accidentally there 11 minutes before closing… I also thought it was a little steep to charge a dollar to add tomatoes to the salad…

So we decided to go back to chocolatetea because the location is so close and I did enjoy the Bangkok wrap. My boyfriend ordered the tuna melt panini and he literally almost fell out his chair it was so delicious. I had a bite and yes it was probably one of the best tuna melts I have ever had. He ordered the London blue iced drink and he enjoyed that as well and I had the mocha iced coffee which was delicious. I wanted to update the review, since I have found things I love here I can defiantly see myself returning on a regular basis to enjoy this wrap!!! I really can’t emphasize enough how delicious the Bangkok wrap is!!!

I came here 3 times so far, and I highly recommend the Sichuan chicken sandwich. The hot chocolate is absolutely delicious and better than their cold drinks in my opinion. It’s a fun place to hang out with friends for lunch and is close to campus. Definitely recommend!

Amazing. This place is just amazing. They have so much for so little! The prices are good for such good food and drinks! Not to mention they have a wide assortment of chocolates and candies. Some may say they have bad service but I really don’t see that issue. I’ve been there multiple times. I have always had kind, quick and helpful service. I especially recommend coming during the winter because their hot chocolates are simply fantastic. I usually get the caramel hot chocolate(milk chocolate). This place really stands out for such a small space. I live close to here and I can just bike or walk even! Keep it up Chocolatea!

Chocolatea is located conveniently right behind(north of) the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus. I found this place during my first semester at Hopkins and enjoyed the little café a lot. The first time, I ordered a Green Tea Matcha Hot Chocolate with whipped cream and a Salmon Avocado Wrap(with mango). Both were well cooked/made and delicious. I really enjoyed the Hot Chocolate because it was a perfect amount of sweetness and didn’t feel overwhelming. I enjoyed that real chocolate was used to create these little cups of joy, and the concept of the matcha green tea hot chocolate is pretty tasty. There is a large selection of hot chocolate and coffee to choose from. The Salmon Avocado Wrap was definitely a welcomed change. I expected smoked salmon with avocado wrapped into a burrito(one can never do wrong with salmon and avocado); however, I received a well– and tenderly-cooked salmon fillet wrapped with a salad mix, mangoes, and, of course, avocados. The wrap nicely presented and served with a bed of salad and tangy dressing. I really enjoyed coming to this restaurant, but I give it only three stars because there was nothing extraordinary about this place. It was cute and had a variety of hot chocolate and coffee, and the taste was delicious, but not unique. There was no tastebud exciting moment, where I just had to lean back and say, «wow.» The café was very cozy and felt very welcoming, but coming into the café was very intimidating, but I can see that the waitresses were trying their best to welcome my party.

We went for lunch and it took us a while before we found the place. We had to call them. I read many reviews about the terrible service, but we have been well treated. The place is cute and the food is good. I had a wrap salmon/avocado which was delicious. The soups are cheap and good too. My husband ordered the chicken rice bowl, but they made a mistake and brought the pork rice bowl instead, which was not very tasty and a little dry. We tried a pastry: pretty good. I recommend this place, the food worth the price and then amount of food is very decent.

Hot cocoa is really really nice. Food ranges from meh to decent. I just mostly like the ambience of chocolatea, it’s very chill and cozy. Sometimes the tables are too close together for my liking, I prefer the booths. I do like how they’ve added the truffles and some Asian snack stuff somewhat recently. Last visit I had the breakfast udon and the smores hot cocoa. The udon was very nice and the hot cocoa was delicioso. My friend had something like a buttercream hot cocoa and I had a sip and it was da bomb I wish I was more adventurous and got that. It was sweet and salty… so good.

I stopped by on a Friday afternoon following a recommendation from a friend. honestly, I don’t know I would have found this place otherwise. it has a rather plain appearance from the outside, but don’t judge a book by its cover as this place is a gem! I love that they use real chocolate for their hot chocolate and mocha drinks instead of chocolate syrup. you can choose between milk, white, or dark chocolate but I’m partial to dark chocolate. for the non coffee drinkers out there, you can also have their espresso drinks as a hot chocolate. for those who can’t decide, you can do what i did and have the best of both worlds. I ordered the Nutty Irishman as a hot chocolate made with dark chocolate chips that were melted with steamed milk and flavored with hazelnut and Irish cream syrup. I don’t like my drinks too sweet so I asked them to go light on the syrups. I also added a shot of espresso :) let me just say, it was absolutely indulgent! I was sad when I got to the bottom of my cup. next time, I want to try their miso butterscotch(think salted caramel) drink. I heard it’s been a huge hit! they also have gourmet chocolates and a breakfast/lunch menu. I will definitely be back whenever I’m in the area!

I took my grandmother here for breakfast one Sunday and I was pretty pleased with what we got. She was a bit frustrated that there wasn’t table service, but I didn’t mind… the place isn’t very large anyway so you can definitely sit while you wait and you’ll get a number for your order. I got the nutty Irishman hot cocoa and it was great! I’ll definitely be back to try more of their specialty drinks. The breakfast was nothing out of the ordinary or exciting, but it was perfectly good. I think I’d like to try their lunch and dinner as well since it looks like they have some more exciting options. Update: yesterday’s review inspired me to go back and try some of their dinner options. If you’re at all interested in some great Asian food, definitely try this place for dinner! I got the Bangkok Chicken Wrap, which was incredible and served with a delicious side salad with peanut dressing. The wrap was pretty spicy and the only thing I would suggest is asking them to go easy on the hot and sweet thai sauce… mostly because it made the wrap a tremendous mess. My boyfriend got the spicy beef bowl and I think that’s what I’ll get next time. He finished the whole thing in like 15 minutes tops… and it was big! We also both ordered some cocoa-lattes to go: he got the mayan and I got the peanut butter cup. I didn’t think the PB cup was that thrilling, but the mayan was pretty great. So, final conclusion: this place is great for so many different things! Get a decent, standard breakfast, a specialty drink, or some delicious Asian food… you can’t go wrong!

The hot chocolate is delicious! The multiple interesting flavors can be served as a hot chocolate or a latté base. I got the Nutty Irishman(hot chocolate with Irish cream and hazelnut). My friends ordered the Strawberry Nutella hot chocolate and the Peanut Butter hot chocolate. The Strawberry Nutella was very good and had real strawberries in it; the Peanut Butter could have been flavored a little stronger. I also ordered their Udon Soup appetizer. It was only $ 3 and was a decent amount. The food is pretty good but I will definitely be back to try the various flavors of coffee, hot chocolate, and tea!

I go here all the time. This place is awesome. The price is decent and their chocoloteas are heavenly! I would try the peppermint patty if its your first time. Make sure to call in ahead of time as they have weird hours and close quite early.

If I could give this place less than one star, I would. I tip 20% beforehand(since I pay with credit card and must give the tip amount before I am seated) Now, whenever I eat here, I get treated shittier each time. This place is a bit more expensive than other lunch cafes, hence I’d like to get higher quality food and an acceptable portion size. This place is definitely not what it was two years ago when I would come every Saturday with friends. I’m thoroughly disappointed in your offhand service and low quality food. I hope my last two visits this past year were truly just flukes and this restaurant isn’t consistently third-rate now.

I really love the decoration in this café, and it’s a great place to sit and work. They are known for their drinks, especially the tea, but I think one of the gems is their chocolate truffles. My favorite is the earl grey truffle.

I never knew this place was here. It’s tucked into the Ambassador apartment building on 39th Street and if you aren’t looking for it, you might pass right by this blue awning. In fact, we had to call to find it. Just like the name says they do lots of tea drinks and chocolate lattes. I didn’t get one for those — so I am not sure that I gave this place a fair shot. There is no table service here — just a counter with a super super friendly and helpful staff. We just did a regular drip coffee — the mugs were huge and filled even though we did ask for room for cream. After you’ve ordered they give you a number/letter and you pick a table. They will bring the food out to you — so you can enjoy yourself outside. They do not have a ton food of options, but they have all your favorite breakfast favorites. I almost chose the egg and ginger — but I just couldn’t figure out what that was gonna be — so I got this ginormous bagel sammie. Made with real egg! None of that microwave crap. It took a while for the food to come out — maybe because we were outside and they couldn’t find us. Food was fine — nothing special — but, two coffees, the bagel sandwich and a waffle with bananas was only $ 14. I’d say its worth it, plus it’s so close to my house — I’m sure I’ll be back.

I love this place! I dine in after a little event in a nearby hotel. Service was okay, my waitress made a few mistakes but nothing that would stop me from going the there. Food was prompt and tasty. I had the chicken teriyaki rice bowl. Yummy. The chicken was sliced very thinly which I loved. The vegetables was cooked in the teriyaki sauce. My lunch companions said that it wasn’t a rice bowl because it was on a plate! Lol They are silly! The décor was different and unique. They have Swiss chocolate, I wasn’t able to try them. Look good and sweet! I had a Passion peach tea. It’s a very lite tea. Needs to sit for a few to get favor. Taste well. When I’m in the area I will visit again!
