We came in for the Diablo donuts(which were delicious, BTW) and we’re going to town on them in the back when the guy behind the counter approached us and asked if we wanted to try a slice of his new breakfast pizza he’d been working on. OHMYGOD. This was the best thing I’ve put in my mouth in a long time. It was perfect New York style crust; crispy but also slightly doughy without being burnt, and it held up the plethora of fresh, flavorful toppings, including: bacon, sausage, cheese, spicy green peppers, onions, and a perfectly cooked, yolky, over hard/medium egg baked on top. I would come here every week for breakfast if this was a menu item, AND I will absolutely be back for pizza. Best. Pizza. Ever.

At $ 4.50/slice for poor service and awful pizza. Stay away. I wouldn’t wish this pizza on my worst enemy.

Disappointed in the pizza pie we bought tonight. It was pretty burnt. I didn’t even finish my slice. That being said, normally is pretty good so maybe just having a bad day/night. :-/

Went there last night after The Get Down ended. Delicious and a huge slice for only $ 4! Would definitely go back

Last two visits to NYC I missed out on some pizza. Unilocal showed me this place. Went in for a late night bite. 4.50 for a slice. Large slices, yes. Flavorless yes. Dry, yes… But has potential. I expected a bit more sauce and maybe some oregano. Nice staff though. Would come for a drunk/super late night meal.

Huge slices, friendly staff, but pizza earns and F and it attracts crazy drunk customers.

The best pizza in the area! The slices are huge and sometimes a bit greasy. Tastes just like a slice from New York City. :) The interior and exterior might not look so charming, but i guarantee you’ll love their pizza.

Best place for a slice in Fells Point. I suggest the baked potato pizza, it’s the actual best slice ever! There’s always a bunch of drunk people inside any time after 6pm. It’s a little loud, especially on Saturday and Sunday.

If you can eat from here, you wouldn’t mind eating from the garbage Cuz it’s the same hygienic level.

Being from Brooklyn, my standard for pizza is kind of high and I tend to have a hard time eating the stuff in other cities around the country. Is Hot Tomatoes NYC style? Not really, no. Is it overpriced? Yeah, it really kind of is at $ 20 a plain pie. With that said, it’s still PRETTY good. It’s definitely a little thinner than I’d like. There’s a difference between thin crust and cracker crust, and Hot Tomatoes definitely borders on the latter. It’s still good, and I had no regrets with the decision to go here. Another friend who is a big NYC pizza buff also said the pizza was ’ interesting’, but definitely seemed to like it. I see the other reviews saying it’s ‘absolutely disgusting’ due to it’s thin crust and I can tell you 100% that that’s being overtly dramatic. It’s a spot that’s open super late(3am) and caters to a predominantly drunk crowd on the weekend nights. We walked in here at 2am, overall pretty sober. Pizza was definitely being produced on the slow side and that caused a lot of discontent among the drunk and non-drunk folks alike. We waited about half an hour for our pie, which isn’t too bad in the big picture, but it could have easily been 15 minutes since they’re so thin. The pie just went in pretty late after we ordered it. The customers before us were fighting with the staff because they were waiting 45 minutes for a pie to go. The woman was apologetic and the other staff members were pretty nice. Even when they were yelled at, they handled the situation well; at least a lot more amicably than I would have in their position and with a degree of humor. Since we didn’t give them too much of a hard time other than asking if our pie is in the oven yet, the blonde woman offered us a few sodas on the house to go for our wait, which was pretty nice. If I’m in the area, I’d check out Hot Tomatoes again if the mood for pizza strikes, despite it being far from perfect. I’d just avoid the drunk crowd where it tends to get crazy. And I’d be prepared to overpay. $ 20 for a plain is a lot when big place names run for $ 16 – 18 in Brooklyn and the REALLY historic big-shot spots charge $ 20 – 22. And please, people, try to have some empathy with the people behind the counter. Being drunk is never a license to be an a-hole. Didn’t think I had to remind grown ass people about this.

I was out celebrating homecoming — had a blast! I decided a perfect way to round out my evening of reminiscing & hangin w/friends simply wouldn’t be complete w/o a good slice of greasy cheese pizza. Enter ‘Hot Tomatoes’ … They have massive slices and are always perfect, right out if the oven… However, what a disappointment this night was. Man, when I say the pizza was dry… How dry was it, u ask? It was so dry that it crackled/crumbled when I folded my slice. WTF!!! There was no flavor. It was reminiscent of a matzo with dehydrated cheese on it. DISGUSTING!!! They lost a customer w/this über gaffe…

Hot Tomatoes was a staple for my evenings in fells point. They’re the only«NY» style slice of regular in the area. Yes, everyone here is drunk and sloppy. Yes, you’re going to get bumped into while waiting for your slice. Yes, people are loud and annoying. It’s a true NY experience :) I always get a slice of cheese. Deff. a great snack! Never ordered a whole pie or delivery or anything of that nature. Stop in for a quick slice after a night on the town.

It’s everything you should expect from greasy pizza shop that’s open until 3am. The trick is to not go in when it’s full of drunken buffoons. Try hitting it off ‘early’ as in 11 – 11:30pm and show some empathy for the amount of BS the people who work behind the counter have to deal with on a nightly basis and they’ll probably hook you up. If the place is flooded with a bunch of world class rejects from Mobys/Rodas just keep walking. No slice of pizza is worth subjecting yourself to that amount of headaches, drama and cheap vodka* breath *as in vodka so cheap it was probably poured out of a milk carton

It is a freaking mess all around. Customers are drunk and people over the counter are probably on drugs. I ordered a pie and they told me 15 minutes. I came back and they were already selling my pizza. Then the got a fresh one in the oven. Sorry, I have no time to waste at 2am in the morning. The pizza was good and gigantic. Not to mention this was plan Z because all places we tried to go advertise thru are open they are closed! We tried Alewife, golden west café, Art kitchen. Baltimore is really limited in the restaurant scene(regular dining or late dining).

1st of all: I’m from NY. 2nd of all: I’m not a huge fan of pizza. I like them, but I won’t go out of my way to get them. This is one of the BEST pizza’s i have ever had in my life. I can say with confidence that this is better than lots of NY pizza’s. All those wannabe«NY-style» pizzas are not up to NY standards at all. This one meets NY standards above and beyond. We had the pepperoni pizza. The slice was huge. the pizza was so nice and thin and crisp. the dough of the pizza crust was just the right amount of chewiness and crispiness. One slice did cost alot though: $ 4.50 for just a pepperoni slice, but the price is justified since it is one of the only pizzas in Baltimore that can match up to NY pizza standards. The only reason why I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars is because of its ghetto/sketchy layout of the store. If it wasn’t for my boyfriend, I would never have step foot into that place. It looks dirty and I can see why people would question whether it’s sanitary or not. However, the pizza makes up it all. This place has their pizza done right. They know what they’re doing. If they could shape up the place a little better, I bet it’ll welcome way more customers. Then again, I feel like they’re going for the«hole in the wall» gem. Btw… we were not drunk or anything when we got this pizza. This was just another afternoon when we were roaming around Fells point and my bf(also from NY) pointed out that this was the best pizza ever. and he was so damn right.

This place defines the large pie, great spot, really good pizza. Prices are a bit expensive, obviously targeting the drunks late at night, but they so a great job satisfying their hunger. Lines get long quickly, so be prepared to wait if you come late at night on a Friday or Saturday. Slices to go of pepperoni are $ 4.50 and a 20″ cheese pizza is $ 20, Meat lovers is $ 26.

Once a upon a time… There were two girls that decided to take a trip to a far off land. These 2 girls danced and danced and danced and when they were done dancing they looked up and there was this angel in the sky called«Hot Tomatoes» We they walked in it was just time for a fresh pepperoni to be pulled out of the oven. They both took slices to go. And while normally these girls are a size doesn’t matter type of crew(wink wink) the size of the slice of pizza that they were given may have caused them to shed a tear. When they each bit into the oooeeeyy goooeeeyy hot slice of pizza both of them instantly feel in love with this newly found angle. And for anyone judging this place by cleanliness… you get a side eye. This is clearly a dive type of place. You go in order you food. Take it to go. Dont use the bathroom. Dont go adventuring through out the place. Order and go. There are plenty of places in DC, Philly and New York with the same type of atmosphere. Live a little

10% more cheese and 10% thicker crust and this place would get 5 stars. Especially since they are open late and a nice location in Fells Point.

This place isn’t known for the best New York style pizza. It’s known for the hidden items.(If you know about them or you’re lucky enough to get ‘em) First off, I always giggle at the cleanliness reviews. Yous really think York hidden hole in wall pizza place in the heart of Brooklyn is five star clean? Or the awesome, taqueria in LA that has three tables and no menu? Hell no. But you’ll be alright. Hot Tomatoes makes a fantastic DEEPFRIEDCHEESESTEAK. YEAH, I SAIDIT. a cheesesteak, deep fried, cut in half with marinara dipping sauce. They only make a few a night. When they are out… yep, they are out. They also make a pineapple, jalapeño pizza. They don’t always make it for slices but when they do it’s the perfect pizza down to the last bite. It has huge fresh jalapeño slices spicy that hit a huge chunk of pineapple. So, yes, two am, drunk or sober, the regular fast popping, quick line serving, pizza may not always be top notch. But it gets you by in your time of need. My suggestion is get there early, get a deep fried cheesesteak to bar hop with. Or two.

Overall: Should be renamed«Hot Mess». Worth it for the laughs and fast drunk food. 1⁄3 of people are packing. 2⁄3 are crying into their phone. 3⁄3 are drunk. $ 5 credit card minimum means 2+ slices per person at 2am. Pizza is ultra-dry, all the ingrediants bad. Even worse than BOP’s fake, slow attempt at decent pizza. On the walk home, so this is my drunk dinner. _________________________________ Ambiance: 1⁄5. Line fills at 1a and turns into a freak show: late-night hookups; friends arguing over their bar bill; children crying. You’ll wait 20 minutes, hockey-boards-style plexi-glass separating you from those assembling pizza. The pizza steam billows over the divider and settles on you. There are two rickety tables in the back, typically claimed by the only non-drunk crew in the place. 4 – 5 people will try to cut the line at the front, then pretend they didn’t know as they walk towards the back, head hung. We all do it. _________________________________ Service: 1⁄5. Attrocious. Every one of them is grossly sweating through their loosely hanging t-shirts due to close proximity to the ovens. I’ve seen them haggle, maybe even barter. I’ve watched countless times as they’ve sold someone the 5 – 6 slices of old, cold looking pie from the last tray. Cashier: «That’s all we got man.» Patron, fishing for wallet: «Ok» Cashier pulls a new, «fresh“er pie from under the counter while the patron is still finding wallet. Patron, looking up, then leaning over counter and pointing drunkely: «I want that.» Cashier, taking cash: «Nope». _________________________________ Drinks: 2⁄5. They have miller lite but you have to drink it there. _______________________________ Food: 1⁄5. Probably the driest pizza on earth. The cheese is one shade below burnt tan. The crust tastes like cardboard and sags when you fold it, though the edges are dehydratingly crispy. The sauce tastes and looks like evaporated sauce. Thankfully they have the industrial sized spice cannisters. Douse their cheese with red pepper flakes and oregano so it’s tolerable. Don’t get a slice of the pepperoni. it’s an oil spill and guarenteed heartburn for 1 – 2 hours.
