Curt service, as expected in Caribbean restaurants, sadly. Oxtail quality was decent, fall of the bone tender but flavor. average. The curry goat… tasty. Plantains, not overcooked, nice and sweet, carmelized. The cabbage was oily but had great flavor! This may have been my 3rd time eating from hre, so clearly its good enough to return to, but I think Tashe’s Ankh has them beat flavor-wise

I was really disappointed after reading all good reviews, my food was not noteworthy. It was one of those meals you regret eating.

Had the curry chicken. Comes with plantains, rice & cabbage. Prices good for the portion. «Small» is about the same size as others«large». Big chunks of white meat. Liked that they didn’t charge extra for white meat. Cabbage was ok, have had better. Plantains were really good. Would eat here again.

I can’t get enough of Ms Jennifer’s jerk chicken. In fact, I get really angry when I have to go somewhere else for whatever reason. With that being said, she only gives 3 pieces of chicken with the small platter though. I could use at least 2 more pieces.

I ordered Curry Shrimp from here… this is bar none the best curry shrimp that I have ever had the pleasure to eat! Lawd! My new go to spot! I love her Oxtail platter, but being that I have stopped eating red meat and poultry, seafood it is and I don’t mind. Happy and so is my belly!

Tasty food. I’m not a spicy food lover so I haven’t purchased the jerk chicken for myself but have tried a piece of my husband’s and it is good but too hot for my palate. Me personally, I love and will stick with the plantains, rice and peas, and curry chicken. I have never been disappointed with the food and have always been treated courteously when I visit them. If you can find parking on Belair Road, it’s worth it.

In sharp contrast to my lackluster review of Montego Bay, Humming Bird gets a standing ovation from my taste buds. Their sign says it all, «home of the best jerk chicken!» That is no exaggeration. The jerk chicken is so good its hard to order anything else but I can also recommend the oxtails and curry shrimp. The food is always perfectly seasoned and spiced. If you can’t handle spicy jerk, stick with the curry. They also serve a flaky, crusted beef patty that is totally worth adding to your order. Try anything from the small menu, you will not be disappointed!

Holy Moly Batman! This place has given me life all up and through and around the corner. Not sure how I happened upon this spot, but upon first notice, I became happy. It reminds me of home. I would say it is fairly easy to spot from the road, as the awning is bright blue… get it, hummingbird… he he he. There appears to be plenty of street parking. Inside isn’t much to look at, one table and a counter to order food. There is a menu on the on a dry erase board. I think some of the items change depending on day. On this day, I tried the stew beef, and oxtail dinners. It has been so hard to find a Caribbean spot that makes good food in thee Baltimore, most places that I try totally miss the mark, as the food is under seasoned, and just.not.right. When I say that the cook stuck her entttiiirrreee foot up in the food, yes Gawd! Everything that I tried, I loved. The brown stew tasted perfect, with just the right amount of potato and pepper and the meat was über tender. The rice and peas and cabbage were a nice side, I mean I can’t say that I have ever had rice and peas. The oxtail, which I’m always leery of trying was divine, and again oh so tender. The dinners themselves were large, even the smaller of the two containers was enough for two. This will be my go to spot when I’m unable to get on home to get my families home made version. Wooop!

I tried both the curry goat and jerk chicken for lunch, and they were fantastic! Flavorful, spicy, and authentic. Even the rice and the cabbage were great.

The best Jamaican food over east. Most people think that all caribbean food is the same. Its not. Jamacian and Trinidad food are different, with the Jamacian being heavier with spices. Hummingbird has been a Belair road fixture for many years. The food is amazing. The woman who owns this place does an amazing job. The consistency of each dish is something that some places find hard to do. Everything is authentic from the cowfoot stew, kingfish, oxtails, and curry goat. The jherk chicken is off the hook. I hate when this place is not open because the either I am forced to not eat my beloved Caribbean food or go someplace else. And there may be tons of little spots but most don’t compare. I will go over west before eating somewhere else. The Real Deal is runner up. But it is Not the Hummingbird. Check her out if you want great food.
