Went just once and I swear will never go back. The lady ruined my hair even after showing the photograph, she just mowed my scalp like a lawn mower. Hair were uneven and I looked horrible. Guys, better get your own trimmer and you will do a better job yourself.

I went to JH Hair Studio to get a simple trim and some light layers put in. I had been to the location back when it was called«Moxie», and it was super convenient to where I live. When I got there, the stylist told me to sit in her chair, and I saw that she hadn’t cleaned any of the hair from her previous client, and it was a lot. She told me to put my purse on the floor, and I had to search for hair-free spaces, it was kind of gross. Then the trim was uneven– I had to point out several spots where she had forgotten to trim. Finally, I know she meant well, but she said some pretty close-minded things during our conversation, which was a deal breaker for a progressive girl like me. I will say that the cut was cheap and quick, which are definitely two selling points, and I’m reasonably happy with the results, but it seems as though you get what you pay for.

Was able to make an appointment online the night before, which I loved. I never remember to call when places are open. Parking was easy. I was greeted right away. The salon is large, clean and well lit. Love the industrial look/feel with exposed brick. I was a couple of minutes early and Victoria started my shampoo right on time while Jackie was finishing up another client. I had super long hair and just wanted several inches chopped off, keeping it simple as I am a new mom with minimal time to spare. Jackie understood and didn’t try to talk me into anything like I have experienced at other salons. I am a simple gal and have come to understand my own styling limitations after years of «cool» but terrible in my hands haircuts. She was very fast but didn’t make me feel rushed and I was so happy she just went with what I wanted. I also got a brow wax and my normally sensitive skin is usually pretty red and swollen after any wax but for some reason it didn’t happen this time. Great job. Perfect shape, exactly what I asked for. Anyway Jackie was great overall and I am so glad I took a chance by going here again. I liked tenpachi when it was here but didn’t have a great experience at the studio that was there after tenpachi closed. Thank you, Jackie! I will definitely be back. A great addition to the Charles Village neighborhood.

Fantastic salon! So glad I gave them a chance! I called and got an appointment same day. I showed up a few minutes early and was seen immediately. The salon was clean, really nice, and very comfortable. I showed Jackie a few pictures and she immediately understood what I wanted. She very easy to talk to(I typically sit in uncomfortable silence while my hair’s being cut, but I actually chatted the whole time!). As for the cut itself — it’s perfect. It is exactly what I asked for — a choppy bob. It has texture and it’s piece-y exactly as I had wanted. It’s been two days and I can’t stop playing with it, I am really impressed with the layers and the way it lays. All for $ 25(+tip of course). I will say, when I made the appointment, I was asked if I wanted a shampoo and blow dry and since I had washed my hair that morning, I declined. I’m sure if I had wanted those services, I would have paid a little more, but I personally like being given the option to pay for less when I want to(but it’s also nice to know that if I wanted to be pampered, they would be happy to accommodate). My only other caveat to my 5-star review is that the salon is a bit hidden — I actually knew where it was so I had no trouble finding it(and I like the location because you can actually find parking right on the same block — which isn’t always easy in Charles Village), but you might want to give yourself a couple extra minutes to find it if it’s your first visit. I’m so happy to have found a great new salon and I will definitely be back!

The hair stylist did not listen to my directions and instead went off and did whatever she wanted. When I expressed my dissatisfaction she told me to come back and book another appointment, which I would have to pay for. Never have I been this mad about a hair cut in my life. DON’T COMEHERE!

This is the first time I’ve felt that Unilocal really lead me astray, when I felt sure I was going to discover a new gem. Immediately after my haircut at JH Hair Studio, I dashed to my phone and re-checked my Unilocal app to see if I had indeed been at the right place, as my experience just doesn’t sparkle like those other reviews. I’m thinking that this is probably a great, cheap, in-and-out place for men, but I just wasn’t feeling it. For starters, there was an overturned bus in the middle of the road. Huge accident. Trying to be courteous, I called JH Hair Studio to announce that I may be a few(less than 5 minutes late), but would still try to make it on time. The girl at the desk(who turned out to be Jackie’s daughter) tried to cancel on me! I said that wasn’t necessary, that I would still probably be on time, but that I was just trying to give a heads up. Finally, after agreeing to sacrifice my blowdry if need be, I was allowed to keep my appointment. It was not a bad experience. Jackie was really nice and talkative and the place is fine. I was just thinking I had found my new go-to hair person, because of all of these GLOWING Unilocal reviews, and I left not liking my hair or feeling like she listened to what I wanted at all. I had brought a picture(which I know are difficult to replicate) but she was WAY far off. Honestly, I looked a bit trashy, for lack of a better word, and ended up ponytailing-it for the better part of 3 weeks because of the weird, straggling, thinned-out ends she’d left me with. Soon after, I got word that a «celebrity» hair stylist was visiting town and I got an appointment. He took one look at my hair, ran his fingers through it, and said«whoever did this to your head, never let them touch you again.» Yikes. My last gripe is that a women’s haircut is listed at 35 $(including blowdry) on their website. There is a note that if you have longer hair, there will be an additional charge. I ended up paying $ 55(not including tip), which no longer makes this such a bargain after all — certainly not over the top, but not worth it for the quality cut I got. Long story short, I won’t be back. Now, fellow Unilocalers, where can I get a local haircut that looks HIGHQUALITY and CLASSY that won’t completely break the bank. I really want to know.

I called last week to ask if Jackie would help fix a bad haircut that I had just received from another salon in town. I made an appt for the next morning and she did an extensive consultation with me before going near the scissors. I brought a couple photos on my phone and she also asked me to dog-ear a couple photos in the hair magazines she has in her studio. She really wanted to make sure that I would get the cut I wanted. We talked about the texture and weight of my hair and how I prefer to style it. To make things more difficult, I also asked if she would leave my hair long enough to be pulled back into a tiny ponytail. The cut I wanted was a long inverted bob(think Victoria Beckham). That is a very technically difficult haircut to execute well. I’ve been to multiple different salons for this cut and it is hit or miss. Not everyone can do this cut well, even if they charge you a lot. Jackie worked some magic. She took all the weight out of my hair and gave me a very piecey and edgy long bob. Exactly what I asked for. It is long enough to be pulled back away from my face and requires minimal styling. Honestly it is one of the best haircuts I have ever received and also one of the most affordable. Jackie strives to keep her price point very reasonable. Her menu includes options for express cuts(which are only $ 18 I believe) and also regular cuts(I paid $ 35). Considering how labor intensive a bob is, $ 35 is very very reasonable. At some of the more pretentious salons, a cut like mine would cost at least $ 60. And then they try to push a bunch of expensive products on you. Jackie is also very easy to work with. She is a great communicator and she just genuinely cares about giving you the cut you want. She puts you at ease and her studio is very comfortable. She is very professional and thorough. I can’t speak to all hair types, but I highly recommend Jackie if you’re looking for a great stylist and great price point.

Absolutely the best hair salon in Baltimore! I’m a very difficult customer when it comes to my haircut. Between my stick-straight Asian hair that can’t tolerate a single mistaken snip and my own picky, perfectionist nature, I’ve had a hard time finding a stylist who could give me a satisfying haircut. Unfortunately, it is not for lack of trying — I’ve been to many of the«top» and«Best of Baltimore» salons both in and outside of the city and haven’t found someone nearly as wonderful as Jackie. She listened to what I wanted(a graduated A-line bob — not a easy haircut even for the most experienced of stylists), adapted to the unique qualities/complexities of my hair type, took the time to perfect each piece of my temperamental hair, and gave me an absolutely stunning result. I’m so glad that I don’t have to fly to thousands of miles to get my haircut in California anymore. I’ll definitely be back!

One of the nicest salon experiences I have had. Jackie is super down to earth and knows her stuff. I never felt like she was trying to rip me off and I felt like she genuinely wanted the best for my hair. She took the time to talk to me about what I wanted and suggested new styles that would better fit my hair type. I am very impressed and the walk-in availability is a plus! I will definitely be going back.

I got a haircut and brow wax and had a great experience. Jackie was great and fun to talk to. She made sure she knew exactly what I wanted before making a snip. She definitely knows what she’s doing and I’m really happy with my cut! I’m so glad this new hair place is in my neighborhood. With the reasonable prices and friendly service it’s definitely my new go to. I love that it’s a family business.

You can’t beat JH Hair Studio for a great quality, yet affordable haircut in Baltimore. Jackie is fun and cool, and always willing to accommodate her clients. She always manages to fit me in, no matter how short the notice. Plus, she knows her stuff and really takes her time to make sure you’re getting the cut you want. Fantastic customer service! And the studio is really looking great after its makeover. I highly recommend JH!

I went to JH Hair Studio for a haircut and a color and had an excellent experience. The color I wanted done was bright pink, so I brought my own pink hair dye. She bleached it with a bleach that left my hair soft and shiny and the pink looks great on it! I really appreciated her knowledge about the entire process and her advice for color care going forward. The cut was just 18 dollars and looks great! I will definitely go back here whenever I need a haircut or a pink touch up!

Called in on a Friday evening at around 6PM and Jackie answered, setting me up with a Express haircut($ 18) at 6:30. Awesome! Jackie turned out to be totally cool I snapped a couple pics and showed her – she said she was a visual person which was convenient because I didn’t know how to describe what I wanted… But it turned out great! Plus I enjoyed chatting with her for the whole hour. As a Hopkins student(male) I’d definitely recommend her… especially if you were like me and needed to get cleaned up for a summer internship because the semester got you lookin like a caveman.
