(9÷19÷2014) A must visit stall in the historic Lexington Market. Shrimp Salad is traditional, Baltimore-style, lots of mayo and Old Bay, a little chopped celery for crunch. Tried the Harbor sandwich just to mix it up(turkey, Swiss, corned beef, tongue, coleslaw, Russian dressing, on rye). Was a little peeved about the hefty $ 12 price tag for a seemingly normal-sized sandwich, but when unwrapped it’s a densely-packed meat bomb. Superior quality deli meats, moist not dry at all, sliced thin(tongue a touch salty), on excellent, soft, seeded rye; proportions a little out of whack(see photo), I’d said 95% meat and 5% everything else(bread, cheese, coleslaw), but damn, thing was good.

I love the fact that I have the opportunity to taste all kinds of foods from around the USA. I visited Baltimore recently and went to the famous Lexington Market in downtown. I walked around the market in search of something unique to try. I found Mary Mervis and when I looked at the menu, I saw tounge listed. I had to get it. I was surprised when I opened my sandwich because it looked and smelled like cornbeef. My sandwich was made on rye bread with swiss cheese and mustard. I took a bite and it was so good! I will most definately return for another sandwich or maybe something else new.

Italian hoagie was fair. Very little meat. Bread was heavy. Not even close to NJ or NY quality.

Excellent deli sandwiches. It’s located in Lexington Market, so if you can stand the long lines and such, it’s worth the trip. My favorite(and only sandwich I’ve ordered other than yummy shrimp salad) is the Cloak and Dagger. OMG! It’s a cold Reuben pulled high but with homemade cole slaw instead of the typical sauerkraut. This is such a yummy sandwich and so filling. I didn’t have one all of 2012 because I was pregnant and nursing and you should stay away from lunch meat, but as soon as I get the opportunity, I’m going back to get my sandwich.

For a deli sandwich downtown, this place provides variety and flavor. I highly reccommend the shrimp salad… it’s some of the best around. You won’t be disapppointed. Pretty much any sandwich will leave you full. Also, the braunschweiger with pickles onions and mustard on rye might be the epitome of comfort food in my opinion.
