Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse

This place is VERY cool. I was walking along the water with my friend, and we were geocaching… and we came across this place. I had this place bookmarked for weeks, but never had the opportunity to go there. Today, while Geocaching with Holly… we looked up and POOF there it was. Such neat history, and I love exploring places REALLY off the beaten path… where you have to walk, climb, and walk some more to get there. The lighthouse is free… and very cool. It is right on the water, but… like a little baby light house.

Cutest lil lighthouse ever! Awesome historic pictures of it inside. Small museum inside, worth checking it out.

Very neat free exhibit here on the waterfront. Staffed (by volunteers?) who are interested in the visitors and the lighthouse, more than willing to answer what I am sure are the same exact questions over and over. So when they make you laugh, that’s an extra dollar you need to drop in the donation slot. A small piece of history that has been transported here to Inner Harbor for visitors.
Not accessible by mobility challenged and maybe also for people who have a fear of heights?

Its historic its a light house, you can go up inside and read a few things about the history. The gentlemen outside was kinda eerie and weird but it was a good 10 minutes and then it was boring. If that is your thing then by all means! I think it was great that it was free and that you can just venture up there, will I go again? Never.

A hidden gem! We stumbled on this pretty much by accident and were so glad we did. Amazing history and how they’ve kept it to period. It’s free but I think they accept donations. Few people there even on a game day. Check it out if you get a chance.

Associated with the Preservation Society and Historic Ships, the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse is a free (donations appreciated though!) attraction situated near the National Aquarium in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
Ascend the staircase and you’ll enter the second floor of what one was a manned screw-​pile lighthouse built at the mouth of the Patapsco River (literally, SCREWED right into the water’s floor). There’s plenty of information about the history and significance of the structure itself, as well as Baltimore’s extensive use as a seaport. The staffer there at the time, Jamaal, was very friendly and happy to answer questions.
If you’re in the Inner Harbor and looking for a quick, 15−30-minute diversion, definitely stop by the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse!

The lighthouse is open to the public, is free, and is full of interesting photos and facts (if you’re at all interested in lighthouses). They’ve got a person on hand to answer any of your questions (though the guy who was there when I was didn’t seem all too friendly or eager to talk about the lighthouse too much).
Originally located at the mouth of the Patapsco River in the Chesapeake Bay. It was first lit in 1855 and served as a home to the light keeper until it was automated in 1949. The lighthouse was in continuous use until it was decommissioned in 1988 when it was then donated to the city and put on display in the Inner Harbor on Pier 5. The lighthouse originally held a fourth order Fresnel lens but is no longer in the lighthouse. The lighthouses foundation is a «screw-​pile» lighthouse which means they essentially screwed the lighthouse into the bottom of the ocean rather than creating a large concrete foundation, the Seven Foot Knoll lighthouse is one of the oldest lighthouses in Maryland to employ this type of foundation.
