Soup on wheels with a side of French bread always make me smile.

Food Truck Mashup of 2012: Souper Freak and Big Bad Wolf BBQ. Dividing the menu into«Saints»(who inexplicably favor soups) and«Sinners»(for the bbq) yields the most diverse food truck I’ve seen. As a cheerful drone working in Mt Vernon, it is refreshing to see any lunch that can be had in under 30 minutes for $ 10 or less. I opted for the Big Bad sandwich(brisket, pork and bacon) with the tarragon potato salad, drink and brownie. The sandwich was awesome, with just the right amount of spicy bbq sauce. I also got a side of the Carolina mustard — nothing special. The potato salad was great, too: creamy and with that t-gon kick. Maybe the best barbecue I’ve had in a blue state, definitely the best I’ve had in Baltimore’s première«Cultural District».

A-OK is right. I was wandering over to Starbucks for a panini when I noticed this food truck right in front of the school district building. Tried the special: spicy carrot soup, grilled cheddar on multigrain, brownie and drink for $ 10. I would never had ordered spicy carrot if they had tomato or another veggie/seafood option, but it’s delicious. Very smooth, both sweet and creamy. And spicy — actually a tad too spicy for me but I can’t take much heat. And it’s a huge serving considering that you are also dealing with a full-size sammich. The grilled cheese looked AWESOME when I opened it up. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a large sandwich, was appropriately grilled and cheesy(your choice of sourdough/multigrain and cheeses). Your brownie choice is plain, walnut, or peanut butter M&M. Good flavor but I’d call it cake, not a brownie. Rounds out the special nicely. No complaints. I would say that a better portion size for me would be a half-serving of both the soup and sandwich. That would be a really satisfying option. Would LOVE to see more food trucks at the school district, but I realize that it might not make financial sense b /c the district has an outrageously affordable(but limited options) cafeteria to compete with.

just moved in right next door to souperfreak. The owners stopped to introduce themselves and they are souper friendly. I was pleased to find out that they also run Big Bad Wolf which is another of my favorite places to eat.

Jumped on the Souper Freak bandwagon during a recent Gathering and was pretty blown away by Mexican sweet potato vichyssoise. Extremely smooth and bursting with great sweet potato flavor, but also a surprising amount of heat that just kinda creeps up on you. Looking forward to trying more of their concoctions in the future. My only complaints are:(1) price — $ 5 seems a bit steep for a cup of soup in B’more;(2) my soup was served in one of those plastic martini glasses — trendy and all, but makes it pretty hard to get those last few bites…

Had went with their«adult snowballs» which for a small is worth the $ 5 price tag as it has a lot of natural ingredients, my piña colada version had a ton of coconut shavings throughout. Their service was good, and during the gathering when i visited it was worth the stop to try their food, great desert, and a fun easily spottable truck. The menu sounded great for that evening, and I will be back to try more, 3 stars!

The Italian wedding meatball soup was amazing! And very reasonably priced!

3-stars because it fits Unilocal’s criteria of being«A-OK.» The vegan cheesecake is DELISH. The $ 10 deal is great. The turkey chili was okay, the grilled cheese w/apple was better than the grilled cheese I got at the grilled cheese food truck… All in all it’s pretty good for what you pay!

Fantabulous. I was whiny, grumpy, and hungry when LO! A food truck in Hampden to answer my prayers! For 10 bucks I got a soda, a grilled cheese sammich(with EVERY cheese on it), pumpkin-apple sage soup(wow, weird and delicious), AND a brownie. Can’t beat that(unless I’m cooking at home, and let’s be real, I’m not cooking at home).

Great, clean, delicious food! I’ve had them a few times and I’ll say that the sandwiches and salads are just as great as their soups. The chicken salad with mango chutney had a great kick with juicy chunks of chargrilled chicken and lots of mango. Their football chili is loaded and is another one of my favorites. Basically, I look forward to work on Tuesdays only because thats when the truck rolls around! You can usually get a soup and salad for around 8 dollars, and a soup and sandwich for 10 dollars, which is a pretty good deal. I like the creativity of their food, but I agree with the other reviewer who said that their menu can get a little crazy. I like to try new things, but I know some of my coworkers like more basic foods and have been scared away. Give it a shot, you’ll like it!

Good but not perfect. Everything I’ve ordered has been very tasty, and I really appreciate that they generally show up when they say they will. Other trucks aren’t as consistent in my neighborhood. A few random observations: 1) Sometimes the menu gets a little strange. My coworkers and I are pretty basic eaters, and some weeks the menu looks just a little too weird for us to make it over.(Obviously not a problem if you’re an adventurous eater!) 2) Service can be slow. Occasionally the wait ends up being a few minutes for a cup of soup. I don’t mind the wait, but I wonder if they could be a little more efficient. 3) Chowders and bisques are on the thin side compared to what I’m used to. 4) The bread they include with the soup ends up being stale by the time I’m back in my office. It would be nice if they offered the choice of bread/crackers. 5) Descriptions of the dishes vary between the website and their menu board. Best to check both to get a well rounded description if you’re a picky eater.

Mmmm! Sangria Soup and the Plantain soup are great! I’d suggest the sangria soup for a hot day when you want a treat– not really something that is going to fill you up, more of a dessert. But the plantain soup is something else– definitely check it out. Also, the goat cheese and asparagus wrap sounds delish but they were out of it when I showed up. :(I’ll have to try it out soon and update.

I finally got to try Souper Freak’s offerings and I have to admit, it’s pretty good. I tried the Spicy French Fish Soup(bowl) and the Mixed Melon Fruit Salad(small) for 8 dollars. It’s pretty good for a weekday work lunch and much healthier than some of the other options in the area. The soup wasn’t very spicy(though, I don’t recall French cuisine being spicy though), but it was very flavorful. I only had one small mishap with the soup in that there was a small fish bone(which is fine, it happens). The fruit salad was a mix of watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew pieces with mint leaves and crystallized ginger pieces. It’s nice to see that the packaging containers they used are more eco-friendly compared to other food trucks/stalls. I only wish they had a chalkboard outside of their truck with the daily offerings. Instead, you just need to walk up to the window(which is way taller than my head…) and ask for the daily menu. Would definitely be back!
