Entering this joint is like entering the cluttered basement of someone’s home. And although it was midday they only had a lamb chop meal available for purchase. But it actually looked pretty good so I went with that. The chops were placed on a huge bed of plantains accompanied by two small containers of sauce, one red and one white. The red one tasted fine but it was much too spicy for me at this point in my life, the white one was some sort of chilled pickle and onion concoction and it was delicious, so good in fact that I forgot to take a pic before I immediately dumped it on my plate. The cost of the meal and a bottle of water was $ 14 bucks, now I don’t have a problem with that because I realize that lamb is expensive. But what I do have a problem with hence the three stars, is that the meat was too tough. Lamb is naturally tender so what they did to it that got it tough like this I have no idea. It was so tough in fact that my dog even struggled with the piece I saved for him, at one point he even tossed it in the air and let it hit the ground like he does with his favorite rawhide chew toy. As for the service, the woman who waited on me was very pleasant, but an odd occurrence took place because when I handed her a $ 20 she said I’ll be right back with your change and she left, and when I say left, I don’t mean she took a few steps to a back office, I mean she went out the front door and off the premises! and I’m standing awkwardly at the counter and after the better part of 5 minutes when she still hadn’t returned, a brother begin to experience a bit of anxiety as to the whereabouts of my 6 bucks. Finally, she comes back through the door smiling and hands me my change but no explanation or apology was offered as to what that was all about. Anyway, the toughness aside, the meal tasted fair and was nicely seasoned so I’m willing to give these folks another shot at some point, but I’ll be making sure I’m armed with EXACT change. Even if I have to stop at a laundromat and get some quarters or go to my sister’s house and heist her jar of Susan B. Anthony dollars, you can believe I won’t be handing that woman another $ 20 spot. Thanks for reading and I hope this helps.

Had liver and onions for lunch with greens and Mac & cheese. Liver didn’t taste the best and I won’t order that dish again. The side dishes convinced me to give this place another chance. I’ll update my review then…

Custom cakes place that also does soul food. Small waiting area and quite intimate. Smells great when you come in and it’s so awesome to see them roll dough, bake, fry, cook, right in front of you. Cool seeing all those spices out. Feels like a comfy home-econ class. My shrimp cheese-steak had a good char from the griddle. Fries were pulled from a bag and were only passable. Prices fair. Will come back to try candied yams and fish dinner.
