We stopped in randomly for lunch while apartment hunting. Terra Café had good reviews. The café was out of chicken, so they couldn’t make the panini I ordered. They were also out of veggies so I got a side salad instead. I ordered the turkey club panini. This sandwich was delicious. The chipotle mayo made the sandwich. The ratio of turkey to bread was a little intense for me. The service was only okay. It took awhile for us to get our waters and I had to walk to the counter to pay the bill. I was also a little put off by the restaurant not having chicken or vegetables. The sandwich was delicious, though, so it outweighed some of the less favorable parts of our visit to Terra Café.

I come here every once in a while. I usually get the fish wrap which is delicious. All their salads are great and their fried fish is amazing. Sweet potato fries with mango salsa are a winner. Good service. Happy to have this place in the neighborhood.

This was my first time coming to this restaurant around 12:40pm. I placed my takeout order on the phone at 12:15pm. No special parking but, I was able to park at a meter on 25th& St. Paul street. Walked into the the restaurant and a few customers were dining in. Walked up to the counter and was asked if I had placed my order already. I responded«Yes». My order was up and ready. Just had to be bagged. It looked a little different inside this restaurant than I was expecting. I thought it was gonna be spacious inside but, it was rather small. The gentleman that rang up my order was pleasant and I didn’t mind tipping. At the time he was working alone or what appeared to be alone in the dining area. I was in and out. This place was so close to my job that I was able to return to work before 1: pm. Awesome. I did not realize the treat that I was about to be in for. We each had our own salad and Jamaican Kola Champagne but, we split the Yard Bird Panini, Fish Sub and sweet potato fries. Let me tell you I ate everything. Just ridiculous on my behalf. I’m sorry the food was just that delicious. I did snap pictures before I did the damage. This was one awesome meal. I know I over ate but, I am not even mad. I know that I will need no dinner tonight or anything else other than a piece of fruit. If you get a chance or are in the area check this place out.

Got the chicken and waffles today for brunch, and while I really wanted to love the place, it was a bit disappointing. The servers are super friendly and helpful. However, the service was painfully slow. I ordered coffee, and after sitting around for about 10 min, we still had not received our coffee nor our water. We had to walk up to the cash register to ask them to bring it to us. My friends and I all got the chicken and waffles since breakfast ends at 11 am(even on a Sunday), and chicken and waffles was the most breakfast-y item they had. The dishes took about 15 – 20 min to bring out. They must have been slaughtering the chicken in the back. The wings WERE crispy and delicious and very flavorful. Definite star of the dish. The waffles were obviously made of good batter, but it was SOSOGGY. If you take that long to make a dish, at least have crispy waffles! They weren’t what you would want out of a thick waffle, crispy outside, soft inside. It was pure sogginess — as if they were made too far in advance and left to steam under a lid. I’ve heard their fried fish is the best thing they have. I may try it, but I don’t know if I would ever eat there without calling ahead. I would also never get their waffles again. Overall, they could really use improvement in a lot of areas.

It boggles the mind why i have never been to this place all these years. Not sure what the reason is/was but i went to go get a fish sub from the establishment and it was pretty tasty and rich. The loaf was good they use swai fish or something like that and it was lightly breaded and fried golden. The bread was yummy too. Will try out some other offerings later.

Being a DC transplant, my expectations were high; they did not disappoint. The food was very flavorful, sauteed mixed vegetables were very good. They are definitely at the top of their game when it comes to the quality of the food. The hospitality was also great, it reminded me of going to a family dinner at your Aunts. Not to mention the music selection was great! Keep in mind that this is a small business, so patience is in order. The hostess was also the server which is understandable for a small business that may not be able to hire all the staff it needs. This place is DC quality at Baltimore prices; there’s nothing like it in the Charles Village/Belvedere/Mt. Vernon Area.

One of the best Turkey club sandwiches I’ve ever had. Friendly staff and clean chill environment. Definitely a repeat customer here.

My new favorite work lunch place. From the first time I came in every single server has been beyond nice. The atmosphere is welcoming, open and bright. Love it. The food is great and the portions are ridiculously big for the price. I ordered four jerked chicken wings, wondering if that was going to be enough. It was four real whole wings– big ones. More meat on these than on a platter of 12 «wings» from a pizza joint– I actually could only eat three of them because I gorged on some of the best mac and cheese I’ve ever eaten. They weren’t true Caribbean jerk wings, they were fried and covered with a mildly spicy reddish seasoning mix– but they were very good. A fish sub came with a tasty Sriracha-style sauce and again was so big I could barely eat it. The cheese steaks are gigantic with fried onions and chipotle mayo. Maybe the best I’ve had in the city, very impressive. Sweet potato fries are obviously fresh and home made. Last time there they were very slow to bring my food because they were taking food pictures for a promotion. The staff were all very busy. So they said my food was on the house. Just how they operate they said. Customer for life!

Friday night and I want to curl up in my bed and watch a movie with Hubby BUT I don’t want to have to cook dinner and I have a taste for home cooking. What to do? Well I put in soul food to my handy dandy Unilocal app and choose this spot, Terra Café. I stopped by here before for a book signing for Steel Wool by Jael Freedman but I didn’t get my review in. Tisk tisk. So the run down. The service is polite. The wing are amazing. The fries are the best. The Mac and cheese… well we’ll have to give that another opportunity. The sweet potato pie I tried first visit was Awesome. I would argue this place is pricey but probably not for the quality of location and experience. This is not your chicken box corner store.

I had read an article about Terra Café and decided to stop in on my way home. Ordered turkey wings, mac & cheese and greens for take out. The atmosphere was relaxing and I loved the artwork lining the walls. Folks were taking advantage of the free wi-fi while eating. Well back to the food. I love the facts they don’t use pork/swine. Two large turkey wings well seasoned and moist. Mac & cheese was on point and the greens were almost as good as mine. :-)) They have that apple cider vinegar and sweet blend just right. I’ll go back to try other dishes on the menu. I have to say they have really stepped up their game since my first visit a few years ago.

Occasion: On the look-out for some soul food. Overview: This café is wonderful. It is the perfect neighborhood venue for food, art, and gathering. Food: I ordered the Curry Chicken and Baked Fish entrée. They were both very tasty dishes. I especially loved the Mac & Cheese side. Service: Everyone was really nice and seemed to know a lot of the patrons which I thought was neat.

Terra Café is a locally owned restaurant with a big heart. The restaurant itself is comfortable and inviting. There are tons of artwork and photos spread around the café. The atmosphere invited you to sit down and spend time enjoying a good meal. You can tell the owners pride themselves on supporting the community. There is a large board with postings for local businesses, services, and community events and programming. They also host several events and sponsor different programs. There is also a clear emphasis on great service and great food. All the employees were cheerful and invested in ensuring you enjoy yourself. They checked in with patrons frequently without being intrusive. Every patron that came in was treated kindly and with respect. This can be hit or miss in some places but not here. It had a very comfortable community vibe. The food was great! It wasn’t overly seasoned and the portions were good a good size. Definitely try the sweet potato fries and the jerk chicken. I loved the fact that they had so many non-pork and vegetarian options considering the fact that they are a soul food restaurant.

It was ok. Had chicken and waffles. Fried chicken came out seaming but it was greasy as hell. Waffle… nothing special about it. Wasn’t impressed. Staff was polite.

Went for the first time with my BFF whom loves the fish sub so I had to get such of course. However, I wanted to see what else they had on the menu that was on the wall near the counter. I was nicely but definitely shooed away by the woman behind the counter whom said if we are eating in, we should go sit down and someone would come over and take our order. Well, our server was nice but she certainly did. It cover telling us about the specials I saw on the board which sound delish. Our server was sweet and attentive. My fish sub was prefect and the fries yummy too. I would definitely return and know next time to look at the specials myself. The atmosphere is really chill and comfortable. A band was setting up to play live music which I hope to hear next go around because we had stayed long enough chatting in the lovely space.

The fried fish is excellent. Meaty, flaky, perfectly breaded and cooked. If I had only had the fried fish, I would’ve given this place 4 stars, easily. However, I got to try a few other things and wasn’t anywhere near as impressed with them. The macaroni and cheese has a good consistency and seems to be the real deal in terms of being made with actual cheese, but it needs some kind of spice in order to be brought to the next level. Probably salt and garlic powder. That’s a small adjustment — and it does look good on the plate — but it definitely fell short of expectations. The winglets are fried and then have sauce just sort of poured over them, rather than being tossed so they’re evenly coated. The french fries are about average, hot and fresh, but not with any kind of special batter or spice to them. I didn’t try the sweet potato fries, and maybe that would’ve been more interesting. Currently, the main window for the place seems to have been recently smashed — they have it propped up with some wooden boards, so that detracted somewhat from the décor. Otherwise, I thought the color scheme was okay, and they had some decent artwork on the walls. The service was attentive and friendly. The price was a little high for a chicken/fish fry, but the quality of the ingredients more than justified that. If I had the option to give 3.5 stars, I would, but ultimately if based on my experience a place is great at one thing, but offers a lot of other options that it’s only okay at, I think it’s appropriate to gauge it on its weakness rather than its strength.

Nice little organic café offering a great selection of comfort food & soul ambience. The wait was a little slow due to the special lunch the owner was having for their employees/volunteers that just fed 180 homeless people. I opted for the Sway Fish Wrap, never had that type of fish before & it was very fresh & delicious. I had the«Chef’s Hash», garden potatoes with grilled veggies & seasonings, very tasty as well. Pretty impressed with the food & vibe. Our sever was very young & on point. He knew the menu & the great suggestions… not to mentioned being able to handle my special concessions requests with a quick turn around. This will be my brunch spot each time before heading back to the District.
