The Chicken King

I really, really, really (yes, that’s three «really“s) want to love this place. I mean, first of all, they have an expansive menu which injects much needed diversity in the local cuisine. Also, the name itself — The Chicken King — resonates with dive-​eatery-​potential. Finally… I just love chicken, kind of how some people love cheesy poofs to distraction.
The food is decent, especially the entrees involving any type of sauce, like the Chicken with Cream Sauce or Chicken Stew. The wraps and tacos, not so much.
The problem is that they use the same chicken for everything. As in, they grill/​fry chicken strips and use them in all their dishes, from salads to tacos to stews. Instead of having the chicken simmer in the sauce/​stew/​seasoning, for example, they cook them separately and then simply ladle the latter over the former. So the chicken itself has very little taste.
Also, they are extremely slow in delivery. I once called to place the order for pickup and still had to wait for 30 minutes for food after arriving. The restaurant was in a scary place, where I thought my cheapo Nissan Versa was going to get jacked (and I’m not paranoid about «undesirable» neighborhoods). Another time, they were so late that I when I called to check on the delivery, they sent another guy with the same order so both ended up showing up 5 minutes apart from each other. If I had been dishonest (or stopped to think about my tummy rather than my ethics), I would have been able to get a whole other order for free.
I think The Chicken King is slow because when I went there, only one person was actually cooking. She seemed like the «mom» of a family-​owned enterprise, all stressed out and cooking like crazy and maybe swatting at her kids with her spatula when customers weren’t around. An entire group of what were most likely family was sitting around, not helping, and watching tv (oh, yes, and eating, of course).
I’m hoping that they get their act together because there is potential there.

Chicken king? We had fried chicken, hot wings and nachos delivered. It was the worst chicken we have ever had. The chicken had no breading or spices the big pieces were slice so they will cook faster and they were just dumped in a deep fryer with the french fries. The chicken was so tuff the dog had trouble with it. The nachos plain ground beef on chips and can cheese. We through it out with the wings. I can eat anything but dang I feel so greasy now I just can’t eat any of this.

Before you order food from here please read this. I hope that there aren’t any comments after this post and everyone takes my advice.
Don’t order this food. It’s really bad and you’ll be unhappy if you do. Please just don’t order the food, it’s terrible.

My order on 1÷26÷2015 was one of the top 10 worst meals of my life. The «shrimp cocktail» was a «soup» of rubbery fake shrimp and salsa. What an $ 11 waste. I also ordered a fried chicken breast (smallest boobie you ever did see) with cole slaw (with some weird brown sauce on it that was nasty). Lastly, I ordered a «grilled chicken sandwich» with pickles and extra mustard. What I got was a chicken cheesesteak with jalapenos (which I’m allergic to) and no pickles or mustard. Avoid at all costs!

I ordered a borrito and Peruvian chicken. The borrito was good, but the chicken smelled and tasted like dog food. This is my first experience getting bad Peruvian chicken.

This place is fantastic. The selection of different Latin cuisines is crazy. I ordered a pair of Mexican tacos and a pair of Honduran tacos. They were both great, but the Honduran tacos really blew my mind. Whatever they season the beef with is awesome, and there’s also a red sauce with a coleslaw-​ish topping on it. Very very flavorful. Will absolutely be ordering here a lot more often.
I can’t speak about the restaurant itself because I ordered delivery. I would have liked if it was faster, but maybe they were having a dinner rush.

Holy cow! I ordered delivery from this place through foodler and they never delivered my order. That’s pretty cheap for a $ 35 order guys. But don’t fret, I’ll give daily updates until I’m refunded.

One of the worst meals I have ever had. And I have had some terrible ones. The chicken was awful with barely any breading at all on the fried chicken. The «pieces» of chicken were just breasts cut in half to make the order. An 8 piece order was more like 4. And they forgot one on my signs. Never again.

Authentic and made with love. Food was of relatively good quality and the quesadilla was great and came with some of the best hot sauce I have had. Our order arrived relatively quickly (45 mins) but they advised it could take up to 1:15? Would order again.

If I could give –10 stars I would… Worst food and customer service ever. Over 2 hours for delivery (they are approximately 3 miles from the house. The flautas were so freeze dried and over fried that the meat actually cracked! The Chicken was dry and I pretty sure it was a week old. Absolutely disgusting. Took a shot and failed. Now we know. Stay away, seriously its nasty.

Went back with 3 other people. Their chicken is excellent, chicharones with yucca fries terrific (CHUNKS of pork deep fried, omg), tacos and quesadillas great. Everybody was happy. So across the spectrum good stuff. So eat here.

food arrived an hour late (2 hours from when I ordered). Person on phone said this was normal since I am in the city (what does that mean they are also in the city, 8 mins from me, and they set their delivery radius). Fries were soggy and greasy and cold. Dripping oil. chicken was very dry and did not taste fresh. Cole slaw was overly sweet. Kind of reminded me of whipped cream (not good). Tres leche cake was pretty good but I bet it was not made in house.

We ordered for the first time today from «Chicken King.» Here was our order:
Mexican Tacos-​Three Tacos, Beef, Lettuce, Cheese, and Beef, only. $ 7.50
Steamed Cassava with Fried Pork $ 8.00
Grilled Steak, Shrimp and Chicken Combo $ 14.50
Beef Nachos Small $ 4.99
Let me begin by saying that our delivery order was placed at 2:15 pm, and the food arrived at 3:50pm…we were told this was normal.
So, the «Mexican Tacos» were actually flat tostadas which had clearly been fried in some disgusting grease. Atop of each was lettuce, FETA cheese (didn’t realize Greek and Mexican were synonymous.), and some dried out beef scraps… absolutely inedible.
The «Steamed Cassava with Fried Pork» consisted of a ham steak fried to a crispy, no scratch that, a completely DRY and tasteless disk of meat. The Cassava was dry and devoid of any flavor whatsoever. In what appeared to be an attempt to distract the consumer from the rest of the dish, this was also served with a lovely bit of shriveled cole slaw with a poor excuse for salsa picante on top.
The «Grilled Steak, Shrimp, and Chicken» combo consisted of absolutely dried out beef (?), and overcooked cold shrimp, (no chicken to be found), atop a bed of overcooked rice, with re-​re-​re-​refried beans.
The «Beef Nachos» featured canned nacho cheese on top of the greasiest corn chips I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Each chip appeared to be saturated in the same disgusting grease previously mentioned. (See «Mexican Tacos»)
In conclusion, we would not recommend this place to anyone, I have never written a Unilocal review, but we felt absolutely compelled after receiving such terrible food. We threw all of it away after a mere sampling… what a waste. Lesson learned.

At first I was skeptical, but this placed wow’d me. I took a chance ordering online. The price was cheap and the food authentic. I have to agree with the review above, huge menu. It can take like 40 min for your order to be delivered.

Great, authentic Chicken. Would effectively recommend this to anyone!
